Kai Huang, President and Co-Founder of RedOctane, has confirmed that the upcoming Guitar Hero 3 will feature online play. The title is scheduled for release in Winter 2007.

Speaking to Pro-G, Huang confirmed the news. Good to hear considering fans of the series had hoped that the recently released Xbox 360 version of Guitar Hero II would include online multiplayer support.

Honestly, this is a cool feature, but do people really need to play guitar hero online? A couple of my friends and my self own the game, playing the game with a group of friends is more fun then playing it online with a dude you don't know.

I am sure i will try the GHIII, and I am sure i will probably try the online features, but i really don't think i will buy the game for the online features, but for the song content.

Online is nice but if they don't get the game's content down, then why bother. So hopefully their list will deliver.

Now this is another game ruined by online features, this is not going to improve the game at all as its all about being in the same room and enjoying the buzz as you play together. Microsoft are doing there best to make gaming on consoles a picture of pale geeks with headsets and webcams and is only going to create a negative image of gaming. I myself play guitar hero with mates and my kids and have fun togther and it has created a real interest by non gamers in games in my family, this would not happen playing it online would it.
