View Full Version : Reggie admits Sony beat him to the punch with LittleBigPlanet
In an interview, Nintendo's public figure Reggie Fils-Aime has conceeded that Nintendo lost out to LittleBigPlanet developer Media Molecule as Sony's Phil Harrison was quicker out of the starting blocks.
"I think the best thing shown by Phil Harrison [at March's Game Developers Conference] was LittleBigPlanet," Nintendo of America president Fils-Aime told N'Gai Croal. "The group doing that game is fantastic, and I say that having seen the rag doll little product that they had created."
He continued, "Frankly, Nintendo wanted to do some business with those folks, but to give Phil some credit, he got there first. That product, I think, is quite intriguing. I'm not sure how well it will do on the Sony platform, quite frankly, but I think that the product they showed was outstanding."

There always has to be a quick shot. The title makes it seem like reggie admitted defeat even the slightest bit but he just has to go out like a punk "Well..dunno how well it will do on the Ps3 though". Ugh. This isn't an admition of defeat it's his clever way of shooting down the system by side saying we could have made it better.

well reggie, maybe you shouldve taken that Wii out of your A$$:D too slow i guess. WAY TO GO SONY!!! now you better not f*ck it up:p
Im glad its making its appearance on PS3 not Wii, the textures look gorgeous on the PS3 and i can imagine motion sensing getting a bit frustrating in whats ultimately a sidescrolling puzzler.

Cheap shot again and certainly not worthy of a news article on this site. Can't reggie, phil and peter and all there regional counterparts stop talking the rubbish they are and just point out the good things about there games line ups. But no as they all have pretty dire line ups until the xmas run in as usual, unless you want another shooter on the 360 and bad rushed games with awfull controls on the wii and rushed ports on the ps3.

Just as others have already pointed out. It would have been a waste to have a game like this on what is effectively the Gamecube. You won't get motion blur effects outside of the 360 or PS3, and said effect is the biggest reason the game looks as good as it does. Here's hoping they can up the framerate beyond 30 before it's finalized.

Yeah, unless you actually happen to like games, in that case there's still a bunch of games to look forward to for the PS3, exclusive or not.

What a whiner!
They're aren't buddies or anything. He's being plenty nice enough, Reggie isn't somehow required to be someone's pleasure slave.
Given how most fans of the different consoles treat each other, I'd say Reggie, Phil, and Peter are all incredibly well-behaved. They're supposed to be the ultimate fanboys, you know.

The game looks great. Check out the HD trailer if you haven't.
I like my wii, but I'm glad this one is going to a more graphically capable system, showing that interesting platformers can take really great advantage of good graphics hardware. Hopefully it'll give wii developers the push they need to at least put some effort into graphics. Few games look even as good as gc games, let alone xbox1 games. Currently most seem to be jumping on the bandwagon of really cheap production with poor graphics, in hopes that half-hearted control schemes will sell the titles. Though, that's probably true at this stage.
The DS started the same way, and interesting/innovating games took a while to come around. It's not impossible to make great looking games for the wii, even if they're not nearly as pretty as 360/ps3 games. Look at Riddick for xbox1, gorgeous game. At some point wii developers will be forced to evolve or die out. Hopefully that will happen sooner than later.
Oh noes! Nintendo missed out on a "pretty" 2D platformer by not signing it.
Meh.
Just as how they "lost out" with Rare. Which was a wise move given that Rare had their 2-3 big games on the N64 then lost their touch spectacularly.

Looks pretty 3d for a 2d game ... yeah it's not even a 2d gameplay you can move to background too

Well, with Rare, they basically "let them go".. I think they actually voluntarily sold their share. My guess is that some important people at Rare quit or something.. and Nintendo knew that what was left wouldn't be as good as the Rare of old. That's a random guess though. I am not sure why they sold them.
Doesn't seem to have been a bad idea, though.

A good guess indeed.
Rare fell apart and became crap. Some of the developers went to form the company FreeRadical, who has produced the timesplitters games. (You'll notice Timesplitters 2 and 3 stay even more true to the Bond/Perfect Dark feel than even PD0).
