I like how sony is using a 10 day spread for there sales while all other consoles used a 3 day for there launches in australia... and both the 360 and Wii sold more in those 3 days...
whatever Sony...
I will give them this though... it's still amaizing that at the current price of the machine it still sold that much!
Game sales dominating the charts huh... half of the games have been out for a while on the 360 and seeing as there are no major game releases on the Wii or 360 the past week I don't see why PS3 games wouldn't have been on top.

You're right; it's all about what you do with your stats.
If 3 days doesn't look good, use 4 days or 5, just keep going until you reach a figure that looks good.
I'm not knocking them, they've had another bad press, can't blame them for trying to generate some good stories.
The truth is we need to give it till after xmas to see who the winner is going to be, personally i hope there's room for all 3 consoles.

Lol he just felt like getting that out in the open. But still 27,000 isn't that much, but with regards to the price of the PS3 there it is a lot. I think it costs $1000 Australian dollars or something ridiculous like that I think.

I am N64 fan, I did not like the GC that much, I can't use my N64 w/o my Bung's Jr512 and V64+256 RAM :) But to be honest with you, I wish every console maker makes more and more profit especially Sony and Nintendo since they tried hard to push new ideas and technologies in their systems...

not good news to sing about is it ?
they sell 20,000 at launch weekend - well so they say
http://forums.maxconsole.net/showthread.php?t=55143
and then it drops to about 1,000 a day and they are very pleased with this record spike ?
20,000 ps3's sold in a place where there is 20 million peeps
165,000 where there is 60 million in UK for launch weekend
(yup I am still sure those figures are correct, no way would sony lie or try to rig any sales figures. Sony is not worried about the PS3 or more importantly Blue Ray taking off even though their betamax failed, minidisc failed, discman had to in the end have mp3 support or that would fail too, nor do they need any other promo gimmicks like plasma tellys page 3 birds, free films coz they know it has already sold well and will continue to do so)

Yeah, it pales compared to the UK...but Australia is also a country where the Wii broke records, becoming the most successful console launch ever by selling something like 32,000 units in the first four days. And that's at a much more affordable price ($399 aus).
So I guess 30,000 at $1000 aus in about a little over a week can't be looked at too glumly. It sounds like it's doing about as well (versus the Wii anyway) as anywhere else, compared to the region's typical apetite for games.

I think it's because 10 day overall sales are much more important than 3 day overall sales. A console can sell as much as it wants right now, but in the end, the only thing that matter is who sold more.

What makes your argument completely retarded is that I am wondering how you bash the PS3 for selling 165,000 in a country that has 60 million people. Or how PS3 sells 20,000 in a country with 20,264,082 people (July 2006 est.) but fail to speak of how 360 sells 3,000 in a country that has 127,463,611 people.(July 2006 est.)
I think many would agree that selling 20,000 in a country with 20million people is alot better than 3,000 in a country with 125million+.
Please think before you type. Your name says it all I guess "Talking Crap".

Uhhh... they don't dislike the 360 just because it is a US system. They dislike it because FPS, Blood, Violence, Gore, etc... is not what Japanese people are all about, thus the reason Violent crimes are almost non existent in Japan and the US has the highest violent crime rate in the World.
Maybe we should start learning from them. They aren't the smartest country in the World for no reason.
PS - What's with the $ every time you write "Sony"?
Can;t take your word for everything when you are clearly a fanboy.

I think many would agree that selling 20,000 in a country with 20million people is alot better than 3,000 in a country with 125million+.
Wow - did you manage to work that all out on your own ?
I mean talk about state the obvious, why not say:
"I think many would agree that getting laid is better than having the crap beaten out of you"
or how about:
"I think many would agree that finding £100 is better than losing a tenner"
I am under the impression that if I talk crap then you must be a fuckwit talking complete and utter bollocks !!!!
I think you may need a grown up to explain a few things to you very very slowly and perhaps check with your brain if it is in gear before you do anything like opening your mouth or type, though you may be quite pleased your skills in being able to navigate around a keyboard
let me explain......
I live in UK, work in a big 24hr factory with a LOT of mature harden gamers, nobody has purchased a PS3 yet in fact I don't know anyone personally that has bought a PS3 so I am a little sceptical of these 165,000 figures that sony said it sold over launch weekend
UK has recently seen all forms of rigging and scams, recently even the BBC had to admit they have had some serious irregularities on phone in cmopetitions, previously football matches, horse racing and many other sports have had suspiscion raised about fixing plus many other sales charts have been known to be corrupt in the past like the music charts for example
Also Sony do not have a good track record about being open and honest, no I am not talking about promises about this n that for initial release dates in Europe but when sony gets Lik Sang closed down they failed to mention a few things like Sony Europe themselves were Lik Sang customers. They go on about the safety risk of the voltage and adapters that Lik Sang supplied with imported PSP's and all that - oh do some research or ask a grown up to help you find out more
Sony kept on at Lik Sang like they did to Bleem and in the end they just had to give up the ghost of trying to defend themselves time and time again against a multi billion dollar empire with a bottomless legal team pit.
And after all that trying to stop Lik Sang and bring to account, anyone in the world can just go on ebay and import whatever they want including PSP's
OK - little update coz you may not be able to take all that in:
I don't know anyone with a PS3 (250+ staff and most could afford it if they wanted to buy a PS3)
UK figures are easily distorted if you know how to work the system
Sony have not been completly open and honest in the past so why should everyone take everything they say or say they sell as gospel
I would also like to point out that I have not actually said the PS3 is crap and I will never buy one, I probably will purchase one by Christmas as I own PSX, PS2 and PSP amongst other consoles. I don't own a 360 so I am not a MS fanboy nor any fanboy but choose to make my own mind up that just jump on any bandwagon or follow any fad - All consoles are great that goes for PSP vs NDS - I have both in my house and they are both great little handhelds
What I am saying is about the sales figures and if they are as accurate as some people may first think. No way could they distorted or not 100% correct, this is sarcasim btw ask that grown up to explain that to you.
Sony are desperate for their console to get off to a very good head start, now they threw more stuff at the launch of the UK PS3 than elsewhere so they are never going to say it only sold a certain amount. They want to be seen to getting it off to a good start like 165,000 within a few days of launch
OK now the next lesson is some maths - perhaps not your best subject so will try to make this easy for you:
If Australia has 20million & buys 20,000 at the weekend
(UK = 60million, now you might if you are really clever see that UK has 3 times as many apples as their friend Australia)
Now if Australia bought 20,000 and their friend UK has 3 times as many people, How many PS3's will UK buy next time he goes to the shops ?
60,000 (3 x 20,000) ????
WRONG - the "correct answer" is 165,000 of course
see you don't multiply by 3x but by 8x according to sony
of course this was a trick question because France has a similar size population to UK but at that launch weekend poor France was very ill and could get to the shops to buy as many PS3's as their friend UK did
Now even though the PS3 is selling very well, (so you might think) and the reason that a number of places are now discounting the PS3 to a more appealling £399 is because they want to share the friendship and spread the PS3 joy to more people
(nothing to do that they got stacks of PS3 and need to sell them and hope more customers buy games at same time)
In fact if you was to ask any Video Game store owner:
next week do you want two dozen PS3's or Wii's ?
hell yeah gimme the Wii's, I can sell them as 3 game bundle deals and make more money on the games and I know I will sell them all within a day or two rather than keep sitting on these PS3's in my stock room
Finally a few final pointers:
Yes I will buy a PS3 by year end as I think it is a powerful console
&
No I am nobody's fanboy
&
No I don't hate Sony, but I simply don't trust them or their sales figures
&
This post was about a record retail spike but does that mean the 20k in first few days was nothing and 7k or aprox 1k a day was the record spike ?
I must say your post about stating the obvious:
I think many would agree that selling 20,000 in a country with 20million people is alot better than 3,000 in a country with 125million+
is a an amazing and thought provoking quote, more so I feel that many people have learnt a great deal from that quote.
So much so I think I might just use that in my signature

LMAO actually i found all of you that bash each other in this thread so funny, which ever console that win the console war is of less importance to us consumers, when a certain console dominate, we consumers lose out.
Take for example Microsoft, completely dominates the PC world, consumers lose out, high monopolistic price, lower quantity supplied and less variety of choices. Got PC? then Got Vista. How much it cost, roughly $400, and that is just for a freaking software. No wonder Paradox pawn their ass for being a monopolistic jerk.
So for the better of all of us, all the consoles should have a portion of the market share. Maybe XBOX360 = FPS,Online. PS3 = RPG, Action Adventure. Wii = Oldschool, teens and kids.
Now can we all be friends?
PS: the only thing that is good from the monopolistic or dominant part is economies of scale that let the dominant company invest more in R&D and provides us consumers with better technology in the future but still those $$$ invested in R&D comes from us, don't we just got owned by them even more...
