KeyCleaner v1.4
http://img487.imageshack.us/img487/1750/keycleansc7.jpg
Check the status of your IdStorage keys.
Dump your keys.
Apply fixes for issues related to the old downgraders (TA-082/86 only). Fix various keys (TA-079/81/82/86/85).
EDIT: 2007/09/16 v1.4 released. This update adds key 0x45 to the list that can be fixed. It also identifies the PSP Slim properly and can diagnose some of the keys (for what it's worth). v1.4 will also create all missing keys before trying to write to them so that people with scads of missing keys can at least fix SOME of them more easily.
EDIT: 2007/09/08 v1.3 released. This update fixes a few things found in v1.2, fixes more individual keys, adds cleaning to TA-079/81 PSPs, allows unpatching key 5, and allows the color scheme to be changed.
EDIT: 2007/09/03 v1.2 released. Major rewrite. Easier to use, no external files needed, can create keys if needed (hard-downed folks rejoice!), and colors are inverted to make it easier on the eyes.
EDIT: 2007/04/07 v1.1 released. Cleanups and support for different region PSPs.

Chilly Willy... you have all the 'keys' to unlock the idstorage. :D
I love your work, and I can't wait to use your 3.03 d/g when I get my new psp.
All you early TA-082/86 d/g'ers are lucky to have this guy on the scene.

Can you explain 3 possible incorrect states?
1) cleared key - okay
2) copy of original key 0x
3) no key (code 0x80000025)
I assume "cleared key - okay" means that the key cannot be fixed because it is lost for good but the system will work without it. This is where restored keys from a working unit are used.
"copy of original key" i'm guessing means that the key is found at another location. This can be restored without a copy from another PSP.
"no key" means either the key shouldn't be there or it wasn't found.
Great little tool but I think you should provide a legend within the program explaining those states.
My PSP is a TA082 downgraded with the original idchanger. I am aware from your other thread that a few keys are permanently lost and have access to a newly downgraded TA082 done with your latest id changer (however it is from a different region).
Edit - Just ran the tool using the fix without files option. It seems to me that anything with "cleared key" needs to be restored from a working PSP, is that correct? (0x0042,0x0043, 0x0046)

Some keys are always cleared... so a cleared key is often just fine. Individual key statuses are rarely noteworthy - it's the entirety of the keys that makes the state. For example, the perfect state of a corruption-free TA-082 like mine is:
key 4 = ok
key 5 = patched key
key 6 = ok
key 8 = no key (only newer PSPs with different LCDs have a key 8)
key 41 = ok
key 42 = cleared
key 43 = ok
key 45 = ok
key 46 = cleared
key 47 = ok
That's why there is an over-all state given that depends on the statuses of the keys in question. It's the pattern of ALL the statuses that determines the state.
That's why it says things like "cleared key - okay" - that one key by itself (which happens to be cleared) means little on its own. All you can say is that it reads ok, and happens to be cleared. You have to take it along with the other keys to determine if fixing is needed.
So if you have run the original 2.71 downgrader, then chose the fix without files option, it will then tell you that all the keys but 0x43 are fixed, even though two are marked cleared (as you noticed). They're supposed to be cleared. If you choose to fix the keys again, you'll notice the action recommended is to fix key 0x43 with a file on the memstick.
If anyone has any questions on any of this, feel free to ask. Part of having confidence that a program works as you want is understanding what is going on.

Thanks for the explanation. I actually kinda worked it out myself by going through your source code (really easy to understand since its all practically in main.c).
I used Ookm idstorage page to verify my 0x0043.bin (sourced a copy from Stapol's site :) ) I have restored key 43 and now it matches exactly as you say it should.
Ookm's page also had 42 and 46 as cleared keys. I was expecting empty keys to show as original rather than cleared (makes sense as cleared because it was easy for you to repair them).
This is truly a remarkable achivement you have made, I hope this gets added to all downgrader packs. Perfect solution for managing idstorage.
Thank you.

After i dumped the keys (of my TA-082 2.71 Noobs DG) and fixed them it states as fallowing:
Key 04 orig. key okay
Key 05 unknown status
Key 06 copy of original key 05
Key 08 no key (code 0x80000025)
Key 41 original key okay
Key 42 cleared key okay
Key 43 cleared key okay
Key 45 cleared key okay
Key 46 cleared key okay
Key 47 original key okay
PSP is a TA-082/86
Unrecognized key state
Is this correct? If not, what can i do to correct it? Do i need the original Keys of a TA-082 to correct it? Please Help..

Well I think I got all of my IdStorage related issues sorted out from reading the gigantic IdStorage thread. (Most of the credit goes to Chilly Willy, but Vadd and Stapol helped out too.) I will however check this app out just so I'm 100% certain that everything is in order though.
Now I just have to wait until my battery is charged beyond 75%...
*Edit*
Yeah, I was right, and your program confirms that everything is how it should be with the exception of key 05 being patched. (which is needed to prevent bricking)
Cheers to Chilly Willy for another great PSP app. :)

I also have an origional mobo 1.5 Ta-079/81 psp.
Does this mean i can dump the key from my 1.5 TA-079/81 PSP to mem card and then replace the ones in my Ta-086 from the earlier mem card dump?

Based on this page:
http://0okm.blogspot.com/2006/05/idstorage-key.html
Key 45 determines PSP version. I assume KeyCleaner doesn't know all possible values of this. In time I am sure Chilly Willy will update the possibilities for each key.
Regarding key 47 (from 0okm site again)
new new ver psp have key 0x051
old ver psp haven't key 0x047
old old ver psp haven't key 0x046, 0x047
old old old ver psp haven't key 0x046, 0x047, 0x140
So you don't have 47 because your version was before it was necessary

Okay, let's see if I can answer a few questions... the keys from the TA-079/81 are different in a few cases (notably key 6) from the 82/86 keys. Key 0x43 is the same for all three, so if all you need is key 0x43, it can be taken from any PSP. I would be careful about key 6 - as I said, it changed from 79/81 to 82/86, so it's conceivable that really new PSPs could have had it changed again. So far that I've seen, all 82 and 86 PSPs have the same key 6.
Key 0x45 will show unknown for different PSP types as I didn't know all the values it could take (thanks to Dense for the page showing three different types - I can work those into an update). If anyone gets an "unknown" for key 0x45, PLEASE dump your keys and let me know the value of the first four bytes of key 0x45.
If you ran idreset to clean up the PSP, it should show as such in the app and give you the option of doing a little more cleanup. Currently, all methods of cleaning up keys w/o files leave one key - either key 6 or 0x43. Those need a file to restore.
Since all cleared keys are identical (they're clear), they really can't be distinguished from each other. So it made sense to simply have one status - cleared. In the overall state of the keys, I just look for where keys are cleared compared to where they SHOULD be.

More answers to more questions....
To reinstall 1.5, you can simply run one of the 1.5 downgraders. You do NOT need to run anything like the 1.5 Enabler or IdStorageChanger - once you've altered key 5 to run 1.5 the first time, you don't need to alter it again. KeyCleaner will show key 5 as "patched - okay" when it is in the proper state to run 1.5 and custom firmwares.
Key 6 is reportedly used for controlling the memory in the PSP. So I'd be careful to not do something like use a TA-079/81 key 6 on the 82/86 PSP. Use the 82/86 key 6 on your 82/86.
The most common brightness issue is NOT due to the keys - it's due to the 1.5 display libraries and new LCD modules. There is a complicated method of replacing the display libraries documented in another thread. If KeyCleaner says that key 4 is okay and also says that key 8 is okay, and you still have display issues, you almost certainly have the new LCD display issue (key 8 is used by the new display libraries to handle the new LCD modules). Older PSPs don't have key 8, and don't normally have that problem either.

It means you have a different region PSP... this first version of KeyCleaner doesn't look for the one key different between different region PSPs (original key 0x45). Your state is one indicating you ran the original 2.71 idstoragechanger that was part of the original 2.71 downgrader, and key 0x46 should say copy of original key 0x0045, but KeyCleaner doesn't recognize that yet. I'm going to add the info I've gotten so far into KeyCleaner and make an update tonight or tomorrow that handles that, so you might wait until I release the update and try again.
Sorry about the hassle, but I didn't have the info on that when I made v1.0, and none of the people I used for testing had non-US PSPs either. With the info I have no, I should be able to handle four different models (1000, 1001, 1004, and 1006), which seem to be the most common.

I was wondering if I can take the (original key) 0x43 key from a (US) PSP1001 3.03oe-C, non TA-082 for my (US) PSP1001 3.03oe-B TA-082?
I too have a softdown TA-082 psp.
If I can't do the question above, can anyone assist me in locating the key 0x43 for TA-082 PSP1001 (US) also?
So far as I've seen, all 0x0043 keys are the same.

Tested v1.1 on my 86 w key 8
~recorrupted idstorage with 2.71 dg utilities
~fixed using square w/o files option
~fixed resulting missing 43 bin from backup
~hard boot
Success
Chilly Also tested on 82
2.71 idstoragechanger
2.71 idsc + idreset
2.71 idsc + USBHOSTFS-FIX
2.80 idsc
2.80 idsc + idcopy
We have no way to test the regional improvements. But as a consolation running it shouldnt leave you with any issues that cant be fixed if any issue did present it self.

I ran this program yesterday or the day before and as far as I can tell from what is now displayed about the key states and info provided by Chilly Willy my TA-082 PSP is now corruption free without having to restore any files from the memory stick. I originally ran IdStorageFix by codes02 and it made a few changes, but I didn't think to make any notes at the time about what was changed. Then when I ran KeyCleaner v1.0 it told me that I had a codes02 soft-downed ta-082 and some more fixes needed to be made. After making the changes with KeyCleaner v1.0, the status of my PSP is "Chilly Willy soft-downed TA-082/86". No backup files were needed. My PSP was originally downgraded to 1.50 using the noobz 3.03 downgrader.

Chilly, do you have any suggestions on how to fix key #6?

04-11-2007, 03:09 PM
I created my key 6 by hand several weeks ago.
What I did was take one of my dumped keys. (Key 5 for example), and opened it up in a hex editor.
Then I looked at harleyg's idstorage.txt file (Google for "harleyg idstorage.txt") and within that text file shows the contents of several of the idstorage keys. Look for "0x006" in that text file (it shows the first two lines of key 6). Bear in mind that after the first two lines of key 5 or 6, all that remains are zeros.
Now in your hex editor, overwrite the first two lines of key 5 with the two lines of key 6 that was within idstorage.txt. Save your newly edited key as key 6 since it now contains the exact data that key 6 should and flash it to your PSP.
This is exactly what I did, and keycleaner says that key 6 is good/valid. :D

Older TA-082's don't have a key 8 (mine doesn't). There are only two key 6's I have ever seen - the original key 6 for TA-079 and 81, and the key 6 for TA-082 and 86. You can make a key 6 that will work for you as described in an earlier post above.

My TA-086's 0x0008 has value but its not the correct value thats why I've brightness issue on 2.70 and above firmware. I didn't know much about this before so I've tried flashing non important/unique IDStorage keys from my old TA-082 to my TA-086 using Yoshiro's old IDStorage Dumper. This includes the flashing of 0x0008 (and other 3 IDStorage keys) and they are all empty. The result, it emptied those 4 (0x0008, and 3 other IDStorage keys) to my new TA-086. Now I can't reflash any values to these 4 TA-086 using IDStorage flasher including your IDStorage Manager since it threats my 0x0008 (and other 3 IDStorage keys) as empty (returns error). I just want to suggest if you can include a SceCreateLeaf function (or something like that) to create a new zeroed out value for my 0x0008 (and other 3 IDStorage keys) if it doesn't exists.
E.g.,
1. Flash 0x0008 value
2. IDStorage Manager asks "Your 0x0008 doesn't exist since it returns (blahblah). Would you like to create a new value for it?"
3. 0x0008 created and flashed 0x0008 value.

I'm looking into how you create keys because of an issue with hard-downed PSPs. However, remember that Yoshiro's dumper said that all keys existed - there was a bug in his dumper code so that if a key didn't exist, it returned the contents of the last key that DID exist. So if Yoshiro's dumper says that you have a key 8, but IdStorageManager or KeyCleaner says you don't, you don't have a key 8.
If anyone gets an "unknown" for key 0x45, PLEASE dump your keys and let me know the value of the first four bytes of key 0x45.

Which is sorta what I mentioned above... see how you don't have a key 0x47? That's an indicator of a hard-downed TA-082. I got a PM from someone else who had the same thing. I'll put some recognition code into v1.2 for hard-downed 82/86's and see if I can't figure out how to create keys as the current code won't. As for 0x45... 02 00 01 is recognized by v1.1 (in the first post of the thread). You might want to try that to see what it says, but it'll almost certainly still not recognize the state given this appears to be a hard-downed PSP. What are the first four bytes of 0x46?

Never heard of that before... you might try resetting the default settings. If it's related to the keys, it sounds like you used a set of incompatible keys (79 on an 82, for example... or 86 on an 82).
If you have any custom junk in the flash, it could be related to that.

You can use the hidden unpatcher in the 1.5 enabler that comes with the 2.71 and 2.80 corruption-free downgraders. While on the screen where it tells you the PSP has been patched to run 1.5, if you press the SQUARE button it'll unpatch the PSP. WARNING!!!!! If you do that while still on 1.5, the PSP will brick when it resets. You need to be on a newer firmware or you're in BIG trouble. That's why the unpatcher feature is hidden.

Okay, I know this is my first post, but I've been lurking this website since forever, so hopefully someone will be able to help me out here.
I ran the program, and had it fix the keys, and here's what I've got now:
"Chilly Willy soft-downed TA-082/86 - bad key 0x0006"
It says it's a copy of original key 0x0005. How do I fix this? I'm hoping that this key will fix my annoying-as-all-hell backlight problem (I don't really care about the 12% battery, which I didn't know about until somebody mentioned it).
Here's the rest of the changes KeyCleaner made. Do these check out?
0005: Patched
0042: Cleared
0046: Cleared
Your help would be greatly appreciated.
P.S. I also have an original-run TA079 PSP. Can I dump the keys and replace the corrupt 0006 with the old 0006? This may be a horrible idea that will kill my PSP so I haven't done it.
P.P.S. I've never done any custom anything except disabling network update back on 2.71SE-A.

You can't use TA-079 keys. You can make a key 6 with a hex editor and this file: http://harleyg.net/docs/idtable.txt
You really should read the whole thread - and related threads. It's a bit annoying answering the same questions over and over.
The brightness problem many people have is due to the libs in the 1.5 firmware, not the keys. Fixing key 6 will have no affect on any brightness problems. Key 4 affected one type of brightness problem, but since you've fixed it, your brightness problem is obviously the libs problem. There's a thread here in this forum you apparently missed while lurking. ;)
Read the thread labeled IdStorage for details... it's towards the end.

what if i use the hex editor just like in key 6? if i install new OE, do i have to run key cleaner again? tnx and sorry for lots of questions
The NOOBZ 2.80 DG corrupt fewer keys, but still corrupts some of them. The corruption-free 2.80 DG is found here: http://forums.maxconsole.net/showthread.php?t=53933

Yeah, that thread was really intimidating though, because I'm only casually into "hacking" (i.e. using other peoples' programs) and as such I don't know a goddamn thing about hex editing except that if I screw up I could be in for a brick.
Anyway, I figure I'll ask one more imbecilic question since I'm on a roll: What does key 6 even do? Is it worth trying to fix, especially given I know nothing about hex editing?
Wait, one more. From that one huge idstorage thread, all I remember is that the only surefire way to fix the brightness issue is creating what I believe is a 2.71/1.5 hybrid firmware with devhook. That changed?

Would this fix Remote Play issues if I used 2.71 TA-082 downgrader?
Right now the problem I'm having is that when I go to register the PSP on the PS3 for Remote Play, it says "There are no PSP systems connected."
I made sure to enable the USB connection on PSP. The funny thing is that the PS3 is able to detect the PSP as a USB storage device fine. I can play MP3s stored on my PSP just fine. It just doesn't detect it to register.
Remote Play also didn't previously work either before I updated to 1.60 when I had to create an Ad-Hoc connection with the PSP via PS3 WiFi.
I originally followed the instructions in this thread back in January to downgrade my PSP.

If you do that while still on 1.5, the PSP will brick when it resets. You need to be on a newer firmware or you're in BIG trouble. That's why the unpatcher feature is hidden.
ok i copied the 1.50 enabler to GAME folder while at OE-C and run the program
is says " Current Key 5 first long word is 0x436C6B98, 1.50 will run on this PSP. Press O to exit."
I press the Square. then it says "Current Key 5 first long word is 0x436C6B67, 1.50 will not run on a TA_082/86 with this setting.. Press X to alter the key .Press O to exit."
I press the X but it just loop back to " Current Key 5 first long word is 0x436C6B98, 1.50 will run on this PSP. Press O to exit."
i run the keycleaner key 5 still says "patched" i have also tried putting the enabler to GAME150 but still the same.

Reread that again... it said "Press X to alter key." and you did. So it altered the key back to patched again. It TOLD you the key was back to normal, and you altered it instead of exiting. That's why KeyCleaner said it was patched... you TOLD it to patch it AGAIN after unpatching it. :D
You can sit there all day and patch and unpatch key 5... you decide where to exit the loop from. ;)
If it does fix Remote Play issues, let us know and we'll add it to the list of known issues fixed by it. I certainly can't test Remote Play myself, nor anyone I know, so I can't say. That's where fine folk like yourself come in handy. :)
The USB issue is not that USB storage doesn't work, it's that it doesn't identify as Sony or as USB 2. It keeps you from doing things like USBHOSTFS, which looks for the Sony ID.
Read the thread labeled IdStorage for details... it's towards the end.
Key 6 is related to the memory subsystem somehow, but nothing much else is known. I don't think there are any issues reported that can be traced back to it. Most people fix it on the off chance SOMETHING might come up at some later time.
The way to "fix" the brightness issue was to replace the display libs in the flash with display libs from another version of the firmware... if you think dealing with keys is scary, you don't even want to consider messing with the display libs. :D

Thought I'd give an update. I ran the KeyCleaner fix using the Square button fix option. It did not fix my problem unfortunately. Remote Play still does not work for me. My PS3 continues to detect is as a USB device rather than a PSP. I've linked some before and after screen shots of my keys. Sorry if it is a little blurry. I think my after keys look right so I don't really know what's wrong.

Fixing without files leaves either 6 or 0x43 unfixed, as they need a file. So if you fix without files, then find you now need either 6 or 0x43, you can either get one from someone else's (good/fixed) TA-082 or 86, or make the key yourself with a hex editor and harleyg's text documentation of the keys.

Alright so I made my own 0x0043.bin and used it on my PSP. My PSP is still working but it had a hiccup. When I first tried to register it with my PS3, a blue screen came up saying that the system was corrupt. It restarted and everything was reset. Tried to reregister with PS3 and it worked out fine, am I okay or should I be worried?

yes your psp will brick if the 1.50 ipl is flashed onto it. i think it will brick with any firmware below 2.71? also CF is not possible because that boots 1.50 kernel first. I dont understand why you dont want to have key5 not patched? it has no other effects except that kernel 1.50 can boot on your ta-082/086 psp.

For folks who didn't get this, if you had a "hosed" TA-082/86, you needed specially modified USBHOSTFS files to work with the "hosed" PSP. After fixing the keys, you then need to switch to the regular USBHOSTFS files to get it working.
So don't forget that! :)

Hi, please excuse my ignorance as I am new to this and I am a bit lost...
I have a brand new TA-082 PSP. I was running 2.71 official firmware and I wanted to downgrade and upgrade to open edition firmware.
I successfully downgraded to 1.50 firmware using this program:
It went off without a hitch, but in researching which open edition firmware to upgrade to I found information about idStorage and keys - which I do not really understand. I am concerned, so before I do anything else I have a few questions:
1) Did I use the wrong program(s) to downgrade - and if so is there anything I can do about it?
2) How can I tell if there is anything wrong with my PSP? I tried to use this Key Cleaner program on my now 1.50 PSP to see if there are any errors, but I could not get it to work.
3) If there is a problem with the keys - what exactly does this mean? What functionality would I lose? What problems would I have? Etc.
4) Could I upgrade back to 2.71 official and then redowngrade with a different program/files? Or even upgrade and go official (I'd rather not run homebrew than have problems)?
5) Which firmware should I upgrade to? Is there anything I should do first?
Thanks. I apologize if my questions are stupid, they probably are as I do not quite have a grasp of this stuff yet, but I very much appreciate any help/advice!

1) No, downgrader ok. If the program wrong, u will have a brick.
2) Key Cleaner is not kxploited. So not working in 1.50v. Try upgrade to any custom firmware e.g: 3.03 OE-C. Then u can use it.
3) It means your keys are corrupted. Run Key Cleaner to fix it.Please read thru the threads for more details. Functionality lost? I can't tell.:o
4) I never tried before and wouldn't want to. Not recommended.
5) U can try 3.02 OE since it comes with the recovery folder in the package. Readme included. After u gain confident, u can upgrade to 3.03 OE, 3.10 OE or 3.30 OE if u wish.
Cheers :)

2) That makes sense. Being new to PSP and homebrew I was totally lost trying to run that kxploit stuff. You mentioned trying 3.02 OE in #5, will it work there?
3) Ok cool, I'll do just that. Whatever is the simplest solution is best for me.
I am curious - what are the odds of key issues? What problems do they cause? Are they easily fixed?
Thanks again!

Sorry for being a pain, I have two more questions.
4) Why is it not recommended to go back to official firmware?
I am mildly just concerned that down the line there will be some game/feature/reason to go official and I would not want to lose that ability. Official games are way more important to me than any homebrews.
5) Could I simply copy the recovery folder into from 3.02OE-A into a later OE upgrade, like 3.30OE-A for example? Or do I need to upgrade first and then follow a seperate procedure? Obviously I'd prefer the simplest method.
Also, which OE firmware is the most stable/has the least problems? I am more concerned with stability than compatability.
Thanks again!

Issues due to corrupted keys we've had reports of working after fixing keys with KeyCleaner....
Brightness bug - not the main one which is due to the libs in 1.5 and new LCD modules. That one can't be solved by fixing the keys.
Battery bug - where the PSP won't come out of sleep when the battery is less than 12%.
USBHOSTFS - if you ran the original 2.71 idstoragechanger, the PSP no longer reports its USB manufacturers ID correctly and USBHOSFTFS doesn't work. This was not an issue with the NOOBZ 2.80 or 3.03 downgraders.
WLAN bug - me and a few others managed to disable the WiFi by messing up a key (details early in the idstorage thread). So it's entirely possible that others may have as well. If your WLAN light never even blinks, fixing the keys may help.
ISO bug - one person reported that they had awful stuttering when playing certain games from the memstick, but after fixing the keys, they were now playing fine.
Remote Play bug - another report just yesterday from someone who could never get Remote Play to work... until they fixed their keys.
PS3 Detect bug - the same person as the last bug also reported that after fixing the keys, his PS3 now detected the PSP just fine.
WiFi / Battery non-bug - this one is a little strange... before fixing the keys, many folks can use the wifi and charge the battery at the same time. After fixing the keys, they can't. That's because it's the normal operation of the PSP to disallow the wifi and charger to run at the same time. Sony didn't want both heating the PSP at the same time. So the "broken" keys allowed you to do something Sony doesn't normally want you doing. Some folks are looking into this to see if a little app can be made to enable/disable just this one behavior.
Note: KeyCleaner isn't a magical panacea... some things can't be fixed by fixing the keys. Like mentioned above, the biggest brightness bug is due to a different LCD module and the associated display libs, not the keys. Some things are also just bugs in the custom firmware and/or plugin being used. D_A does issue bug fixes for issues traced back to the firmware. So if you have trouble with something, do the following: check your keys, check for a custom firmware or plugin update, remove custom stuff other than the custom firmware, reset the PSP to default settings... generally, somewhere through that list, something will fix the problem.

If anyone else can answer my questions I will appreciate it.
Someone correct me if i'm wrong. Ok here are my understanding:
IPL (main.bin) read 3 key : key 4, 5 and 6
key 4 - controls power.prx
key 5 - must be corrupt before any downgrade of TA082/086. Recommended to fix-patch using key cleaner after downgraded. once patch no need to alter anymore
key 6 - this key diff among TA079/81, TA082/86
key 8 - use by new display libraries to handle new LCD module. Older PSPs don't have this key. It's ok.
key 41 - determines what type of PSP. Whether type A,B,C,D, or E. After repair, should fix ushostfs problem (Eg: play iso directly from PC need this)
key 42 - no sure
key 43 - apparently same for all TA079/81 and 082/86 - controls usbstor.prx
key 44 - controls sysconf_plugin.prx (E.g: usb sliding bar when transfering files to/from PSP-PC)
key 45 - controls MAC address
key 44 and 45 - also controls wlan.prx
key 46 - controls vshmain/vshbridge.prx (if key cleaner shows unknown, it means your PSP was downgrader from 2.71)
key 47 - if it shows no key, it means your PSP was hard-downed
As Chilly mentioned, if you fixed your idstorage key using "without files option", either u left bad key 6 or 43. If u had bad key 6, it means your original PSP before downgrade was 2.71. If u had bad key 43, it was original 3.03.

Key 45 dosen't hold the MAC address, but is associated with theWLAN. I think the current thought is it controls the WLAN region settings for what wifi bands are legal for the region the PSP was sold for. Otherwise, nice list! :)

USBHOSTFS - if you ran the original 2.71 idstoragechanger, the PSP no longer reports its USB manufacturers ID correctly and USBHOSFTFS doesn't work. This was not an issue with the NOOBZ 2.80 or 3.03 downgraders.
Hey, thanks so much for the super informative replies!!
I think I did use the "original 2.71 idstoragechanger". It was my first firmware change, so that's all I have done. In the procedure I followed this was one of the steps: 6. Once its loaded (the psp will restart automaticly --> this means it loaded HEND) go to GAME in the XMB and load/start idstoragechange.
Am I right? If so, what's my likely status? Should I be concerned about anything?
What does USBHOSTFS do/control?
Can I check for this problem (or correct it) while I am in 1.50?
Are there any other potential issues with what I did?
If I install official Sony firmware again will it correct/eliminate (potential) problems?
More importantly, would installing official Sony firmware from my current state cause any problems or prevent me from fixing any potential problems?
Thanks a million.

4) 1st there is nothing interesting going back to official fw unless u want to use location free TV or Korean/Chinese fonts which are disable to gain some space for flashing 1.5 subset kernel into custom fw. If u want to retain all official abilities, u can use devhook to emulate official fw off the memstick. In the emulated environment, all official games work perfectly. Currently devhook can reach official 3.11. If u feel bored with the official fw, u can simply return back to custom fw without any flashing. U have nothing to lose.
5) Yes but becareful ! 3.02 OE recovery folder act as a safety net. If your PSP semi-brick and u forgot to backup your 3.02 OE DATA.DXAR , this is the only way to unbrick it by returning back to 1.50 and do all over again. It's also compatible for later OE such as 3.03 OE-A, 3.10 OE-A' and 3.30 OE-A. In addition, this recovery folder has extra advantage to reflash any other OE package. Meaning if you have backup your OE's DATA.DXAR, u dun need to go back to 1.50 to unbrick the semi-brick. In the later OE depends on the intensity of the modified system files, u shall either do a full upgrade or minor update.
My personal preference, 3.03 OE-C with devhook emulating official 3.11 is the most stable.

Ahh, ok. I think I understand. Thanks for explaining this to me.
If I follow you correctly, it is "not recommended" simply because there is no benefit? I was concerned about any danger or potential problems doing this would cause. So, basically you're saying it is safe but why bother, right?
I guess right now there is no reason to "go official" but I was just speculating about the future, if Sony added some new features or new games required firmware which the OE could not handle. That's probably unlikely and I am sure Dark Alex and company would get around it ;), but still that's what I was thinking about... so I'd like to know I could go legit if I wanted to.

Man, don't sweat it. I've been that down that road, and it's frustrating to get the answers that you got about "why would you ever want to go back??!?!" , but I'm thinking no one's bothered to even trying to go back to official fw because either 1) they have no need to or 2) they're scared they might brick.
Which is actually kind of weird because it makes me wonder how Fanjita says it's alright to downgrade with their 3.0.3 DGer, go back to official, and downgrade again with no problems.

Hi Scott, thanks for the support. What you say makes sense. Did you try to go back to official? What's your status?
I am starting to get a better grasp on this stuff and I have actually answered some of my own questions. I learned that you cannot upgrade past official firmware 3.30 if you have corrupt keys (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PlayStation_Portable_homebrew). Sony checks for them now. Eep. But all the sources I read have said you can go back to the official firmware as long as your uncorrupted (does anyone disagree?).
Personally, I think I want to try that. As there is a good chance I have a corruption issue from using idstoragechange (doh), I would like to find out for sure and fix any key corruption problems now.
What I'd really like to do is check the status of my keys and if there is any corruption issues correct them here in firmware 1.50. Unfortunately KeyCleaner does not work in 1.50. So... can anyone help me check my status right now - and if there are problems fix them - from within 1.50. Is this even possible? I hope so...
If that does not work, it sounds like I could I upgrade to an OE, run KeyCleaner and if everything is "clean" downgrade? Would that work, at least? I'd rather not go through so many steps but if it will work I'd be happy. I just want to have my original/uncorrupted keys.
Honestly, I would just like to do whatever is the easiest and safest thing - as I am already in over my head. Maybe everyone thinks I am crazy, and that's probably true ;), but I'd just like to go back to where I started and not have any problems. From everything I read, this should be possible.... right?
In any case, thanks to everyone for all the help and advice.

1) Option fix without file 1st. Check key again after fix. U'll have either bad key 6 or 43. To repair this u can either make your own correct key or get the key from someone who have their keys fixed. If u want to make yr own, read this http://harleyg.net/docs/idtable.txt

3) key 47 - no key meaning yr PSP was hard-downed or unbricked. Did u brick yr PSP and sent for unbrick service?

Hi Scott, thanks for the support. What you say makes sense. Did you try to go back to official? What's your status?
No problem. Nah, I didn't try going to back to official; I haven't even soft downed my PSP. It's still at 3.0.3
I am starting to get a better grasp on this stuff and I have actually answered some of my own questions. I learned that you cannot upgrade past official firmware 3.30 if you have corrupt keys (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PlayStation_Portable_homebrew). Sony checks for them now. Eep. Yeah, I talked with idstoragefix and chilly and both say that it's theoretically possible. But neither wants to risk putting that theory to the test. If I was made of money, I would though.
Personally, I think I want to try that. As there is a good chance I have a corruption issue from using idstoragechange (doh), I would like to find out for sure and fix any key corruption problems now.
You should talk to chilly or idstoragefix about that. I think both of them would probably advise you not to go back to official (since you might end up bricking somehow), at least that's the answer I get from them everytime now. But don't let that discourage you too much, idstoragefix did hint at a theoretical way of going about it. If you do decide to go for it, let us know how it goes.

Well, I am not going to rush into it. If everything is working OK I will probably leave well enough alone for the time being. I definitely would like to know that I can go back if and when I wanted to for whatever reason - so I'd like to have my PSP in a state where that would be possible (and also to eliminate any bugs, of course). I have read in a few places (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PlayStation_Portable_homebrew#Motherboards) that if you restore the keys you can upgrade to 3.30+ official - but I'd love to see some proof to know for sure. Surely someone's done it or that info would not be out there, right?
Aaanyway, I updated my new PSP1001 TA-082. For reference, in case it matters, I started with 2.60, went to 2.71 Official, then to 1.50 using the 2.71 to 1.50 'Easy Downgrader' with idstoragechange, and now up to 3.40 OE-A. I have not run anything else or made any changes. Here is what KeyCleaner reports:
http://i15.tinypic.com/478he7d.png
Like I said, I want to have my PSP as good as or as close to new as possible. So I'd very much appreciate a translation of my result into layman's terms and advice on what to do next. :)
From what I can tell empirically - my brightness seems to be working normally (except the 4th brightness works w/o the power cord - which I think is an OE feature not a bug, correct?). I used the browser and the WiFi light flickered. No problems there...
I don't have a PS3 yet so I can't test PS3 Detect or Remote Play. I am not sure how to test for the USB bug, advice please? I can't test the battery bug until I wear it out some more, but I'll do that ASAP.

how can i fix my psp?
ps: i did brick my psp once and changed the mother board.
When they changed your mobo, they seem to have put an older TA-079 mobo into it. Old TA-079s don't have key 8 or 0x47. As such it shouldn't need fixing. The status above is fine for a TA-079.

Nothing's wrong... that's as far as it can go without a file dump of key 6. You can make a key 6 with a hex editor and this file (http://harleyg.net/docs/idtable.txt), or you can get one from a good TA-082/86 (not a TA-079/81 for key 6), or someone may PM you it. Then you can fix key 6 by choosing Fix with files in KeyCleaner. Until you make/get a key 6, you shouldn't have any trouble using your PSP... the major keys that cause trouble are all fine.

Update on the battery. I played Lumines II for an hour last night on the highest brightness and the battery is reporting 94%. That seems a bit odd, no?
Anyway, I look forward to sorting this stuff out. Thanks in advance for the help. :)

Key 5 only needs to be patched once - when you downgrade from official Sony firmware to 1.5. After that, 1.5 is always on the PSP. The 3.xx OE custom firmwares are running on top of 1.5. You can "downgrade" to plain 1.5 without needing to worry about the keys if you're already on a custom firmware.

No. The Sony firmware updaters don't mess with the keys. Once you ran the noobz 3.03 DG, your keys were corrupted, and no Sony software will get them back. That's why I keep bugging folks here and at exophase to change their Downgrading Tutorials to point people to the corruption-free downgraders. Running the original downgraders will then require the person to run KeyCleaner to get the keys restored.

Yeah, there are a lot of out of date tutorials out there. I thought I had done a lot of research before I downgraded but I did not read about the corruption-free downgraders until after the deed was done. Thanks to KeyCleaner it seems like it will not be a big deal at least but hopefully these tutorials/guides get updated for others.

You've got a standard original soft-downed PSP. Just do the fix without files. That'll fix all but key 0x43. Then you can make/get a key 0x43 and do the fix with files for just that one key. Be sure to do the fix without files FIRST.

Great app, this fixed my TA-82 softdowned PSP downgraded with the n00bz 3.03 downgrader.
I hope you find how to write keys when their missing im sure that will then alow it to fix my hard-downed TA-82 system since im unable to fix it currently with this tool :(
I manually made key 0x0006.bin and it worked just fine.
EDIT: Just tested something before my black TA-82 (softdowned) could not run official Update eboots it always came back with some weird error now with the keys fixed it alows me to launch update eboots, I flashed to 1.5 tryed to run the 2.0 update, it says its not usable on my psp, tryed 2.71 and it give me no errors at all.
Maby with IDStorage fixed the bad hard-downed systems will make flash1 correctly, I can hope :)

You either tried to "fix with files" when you didn't have any files, or used a dump of the current keys which of course are broken. :D
The src folder is the source code for the program.
At this point, you need a dump of keys from a good psp. I'll make the next rev of KeyCleaner to look for people who try to use "fix with keys" when they either don't have any keys or just a dump of the existing keys, neither of which will fix the keys.

I Have another PSP with me. Same Model (PSP1000), With the Board IC1003 and IC6001, just like the other one. Can i make the dump from this one and use in the other one? Can that result in a brick?
And how can i do this... put them in the same custom firmware, make the dump file from the good one, change memory stick to the other one, and fix with files on memory stick?
Or better yet... can someone send me the dump files of a compatible with mine PSP, so i can do this? From a fixed one?
Details on my PSP:
- Model PSP1000;

- Custom firmware 3.40 OE-A;
- Colour Silver (don't think that matters, just for u to see its recent)
- Dont know what was the downgrader... but at this point that doesn't mater either.

I tried posting below in PS1 section (none answeared) Stranglyt enough the only game i have problem with right now is Bust a groove.
I replaced my keys with PSP 1001 and now that psp can not play bust a groove without freezing?
Im I correct, without fixing/replacing key If i upgrade to officail 3.03 fw it will cause brick, but because i have fiexed keys, it will upgrade fine?
Then if i downgrade again, will i need to fix keys again?
Below is what is my previous post in PS1
Thanx
Everything else works great!

-Bust a groove will only play on 1 psp and not the other
-The only diff i can figure is the psp not working with bust a groove had the
-IDstroage keys replaced
-Tried deleting save data
Tried re-flashing, 3.40 OEA, 3.30 OE-A, and 3.03 OE-C
No customizations nothing works
same mem card or diff mem card, game just freezes while playing first level
Conclusion: Either Bust A Grove does not work on a TA-086, or replacing my keys with Chilly Willy caused this problem?
Any IdeaS?

The official Sony updates don't affect the keys at all. Going back to an official firmware will not "fix" any keys at all. Hence the need for something like KeyCleaner.

I've never heard of an issue with popstation games and the keys. Just as a reference, what does KeyCleaner say about the keys? List the individual key statuses and the overall state listed at the bottom.
Also as a reference, is the BAG on the same stick when trying on the two PSPs? If on two separate sticks, maybe one stick is bad. Many problems with ISOs and PS1 EBOOTs can often be traced to bad memsticks.

O.K. I have been having problems with Bust-a-Groove, freezing and all i could narrow down to was it was a key related problem (replacing keys)
On my UMD drive it says IC1003
so it could be a Ta-086 or Ta-082
Earlier in this thread i reported I had a Ta-086 mobo
Now on my TA-086, can i replace keys with keys from a TA-082?
Reason why I ask is your app claims i have a Ta082/Ta086 Mobo & patch is req.
Something I have noticed is that prior to replacing my keys when i first downgraded my psp, the downgrader said i had a TA-086 Mobo, patch is req.
This time around when i re-downgraded my psp ta-086 with the "replaced fixed keys" The downgrader told me i had a TA-082 Mobo and patch would be req.
MY question is
1) is it possiable that i have replaced the keys on my
Ta-086 Mobo with Ta-082 keys, therefore downgrader now thinks it is a ta-082?
2) can i replace the Ta-082 keys now even though your app reports everything is fixed?
3) Does it even matter if i have ta082 keys instaled on a ta086 mobo?
4) The downgrader i used is" The Noobz team", do you know if the app determine what mobo you have based on what it reads from the keys so it know what to patch?
Thanx

Well Im really stumped. I have now downgraded my psp twice
first downgraded the TA-086 it the "Noob downgrade" said it was a Ta-086 mobo and patch req,
replaced keys with "fixed keys" on memory stick wth key cleaner
reports all is well
Notice bust a groove wont play
Try everything first, then i upgrade again to Sony FW 3.03
downgrade psp again, and this time the "Noob Downgrader" said i have a
Ta-082 Mobo????? Last time it said TA-086

Can anyone explain ???
Is it because the downgrade read the key info i replaced, and those keys i replaced were for a ta-082 mobo?
Im not making any assumptions, or aqusations, Im really happy to have my keys fixed, It had to be done regardless
boo hoo i cant get 1 game to work!
Im just hoping someone has some insight for me.
Can Ta-082 key operate on a Ta-086 mobo or am I crazy and seeing things?

Let's see if we can't straighten out a few misconceptions...
The keys have nothing at all to do with downgrades or upgrades, official or otherwise. No downgrader or upgrader (up until Sony 3.30) ever even looks at the keys, much less do something different based on them. The latest official Sony upgraders supposedly check for soft-downed PSPs, and refuse to update them. No updater or downgrader (except the 3.03 DG) ever writes any keys.
Key 5 for a TA-082 or 86 PSP needs to be changed because the IPL (Initial Program Loader) for the kernel in 1.5 will hang if it isn't changed just slightly. No other keys make any difference. That is why downgraders came with a separate program to change keys on the TA-082/86 that you ran before downgrading (the 3.03 DG built that into the DG for convenience). It does not change what the downgrader installs.
Given all that, some keys are different between each model mobo of the PSP. For example, there are two key 6's - one for the TA-079 and 81, and another for the TA-082 and 86. The keys modified by KeyCleaner are the same between the 82 and 86, except that most 86's have a key 8, while most 82's don't. Many other keys between the 82 and 86 are different, but KeyCleaner doesn't mess with them. KeyCleaner only messes with keys 4, 5, 6, 8, 0x41, 0x42, 0x43, 0x45, 0x46, and 0x47. The only difference (besides having or missing key 8) I have seen between those keys on an 82 or 86 is the region (in key 0x45).

I manually made key 0x0006.bin based on harleyg's idtable.txt.
Just want to ask if I need all keys present (key 4, key 5, key41, etc.) in the folder, along with the created key 6 when I "fix with files" on memstick.
Or do I only put the key 6, which is the only one needed to be patched.

Just want to ask if I need all keys present (key 4, key 5, key41, etc.) in the folder, along with the created key 6 when I "fix with files" on memstick.
Or do I only put the key 6, which is the only one needed to be patched.
u only need to fix key 6. just put the key 6 to ms and fix it.
no need to touch other keys since they are correctly patched/fixed.
there u go :)
Edit: Sorry for double posting :o

I apreciate the reply and you taking the time to help me understand the process a little more. Thanx again And im glad u came out with this app.
It must just be that nopt all psp are the same, regardless of how many times u flash and re-flash.
Now that i have 2 psp im noticing that the 2 (as simular as they are) are in fact very different as far a capabilities.
Thanx again to all involved in the hombrew scene for psp! Thank you

how come your new version 1.1 can't recognize what your version 1.0 did to my keys...???
they are not both compatible with each other...
i used idstoragefix 1.1... to fix my keys... then run your key cleaner 1.0 and fix my key 0x0005... and detect your key state as i used it...
but your key cleaner 1.1 can't detect which key state is now... either the idstoragefix 1.1 can't do anything cuz my keys is to messed up... and won't do anything about it...
and your key cleaner version 1.1 need a key on my memstick to fix it... how come... ???
i should avoid using your key cleaner ... and now i think i have a keys messed up...
what do you think...
v1.0 ignored unknown key 0x45s, calling the state an "alternate region". v1.1 recognizes a few different regions, so it tells you whether it okay (given that it's a different region). Your 0x45 says cleared, and cleared is not a valid region code that is on any PSP we've seeen (yet). Known 0x45s start:
PSP1000 = 03 00 01 00 (Japan)
PSP1001 = 00 00 01 00 (US)
PSP1002 = 00 00 01 00 (Australia)
PSP1003 = 02 00 01 00 (HK, I think)
PSP1004 = 02 00 01 00 (UK)
PSP1006 = 02 00 01 00 (Europe, I think)
As you can see, all know PSPs at least have an 01 in there. So a cleared key 0x45 is an unknown key leading to an unknown state.

It looks like your keys are fine except for 0x45. If you can find a good 0x45 from a PSP from the same region, that would make it like new again. Of course, you could always try setting it with a 0x45 from a different region...

I think that your PSP problem is that you have a 0043 cleared key and you may have a 0043 original key, then the program sais to you that you have a bad 0043 key.
here you have a 0043 original key.....http://stapol.biaklan.com/idstorage/?D=A
Put it on your MS and fix it, the program will said to you if it´s a original key, then fix it.

It says okay on the individual key status line because it reads okay. The overall state at the bottom says it's bad because it doesn't have the contents it SHOULD have. A pre-version 1.0 of KeyCleaner used to put bad next to the key in the key status line is it didn't match what it was supposed to be, but all my beta testers complained about that, saying it would scare folks unnecessarily. So KeyCleaner currently puts okay if the key reads without error, along with some indication of what's in the key (clear, original contents, copy of key...). it is then left to the overall status at the bottom to tell you if the individual keys match what is expected of them.

Fix 0x45 first... dump your keys, then put only 0x45 into a separate folder and edit with a hex editor. Change the first four bytes to match one of these, depending on where you live/got your PSP:
PSP1000 = 03 00 01 00 (Japan)
PSP1001 = 00 00 01 00 (US)
PSP1002 = 00 00 01 00 (Australia)
PSP1003 = 02 00 01 00 (HK, I think)
PSP1004 = 02 00 01 00 (UK)
PSP1006 = 02 00 01 00 (Europe, I think)
Copy that folder with just 0x45 into the KeyCleaner folder and use it as the source directory when you select "fix with files". That will make KeyCleaner fix only 0x45, which will then allow KC to recognize the state of your keys.

Someone above posted where 0x43 can be found... all 0x43 keys are the same (fortunately for most folks). Just make a folder in the KeyCleaner folder and put the key in it (making sure the name is 0x0043.bin), then choose "fix with files", selecting that folder where you put key 0x43.
A clear key is one with the contents of the key being nothing but 0's. Patched key only refers to key 5... it means key 5 is the original key 5 with my patch applied to allow the 82/86 to use firmware 1.5.

Well, yeah, but I can't take any credit for more than just making a usable IdStorage cleaning app. :D Other folks worked and experimented to find the info, and I'm sure we're all mighty grateful to them.
Funny, often times I'm the one doing the research, but someone has to fill that spot - converting info into usable products, or the research would be useless.

man after using this i cant access recovery!!!!! wtf!!!!
Writing the idstorage has no affect on the ability to boot into recovery. I don't know of any key that could keep recovery from working, other than key 5 which bricks the PSP completely. It's an all or nothing deal, which is why KeyCleaner always patches key 5 to prevent that.
I would guess you either didn't shut the PSP off completely (was just asleep instead of off), or you weren't holding the right trigger when it checked for it on powerup.

so a 'clear key' is supposed to have all 0s then? it is in the desirable original state, even though it is not 'original'?

The battery charging while wifi is on is due to a broken key 6. Fixing your keys will make the PSP behave "normally", i.e., the battery won't charge while wifi is on.
Your hard-downed PSP is just like an original soft-downed PSP except for one thing: key 0x47 isn't clear. If you clear key 0x47, it'll recognize your PSP as an original soft-downed PSP. Here's what you want to do:
- Put a copy of IdStorageManager (http://forums.maxconsole.net/showthread.php?t=50765) on the PSP. Make sure there is an empty folder in the IdStorageManager folder called "keys".
- Dump the keys and quit.
- Delete all the files in "keys" except for 0x0004.bin.
- Rename 0x0004.bin to 0x0047.bin.
- Run IdStorageManager again.
- Select Verfiy/Fix keys.
- It should say that key 0x0047 doesn't match the file... select fix.
- Run KeyCleaner again. Now it should show key 0x47 as clear and recognize the state as original soft-downed.
At that point, you can then do what all the other folks with original soft-downed have done.

You don't want to clear 0x43... it's fine. You want to clear 0x42 and 0x46 using the method above. In your case, you'll have to look at the various dumped keys to find one that's clear (all 0's). Don't use key 4 in your case because your key 4 isn't a clear key. If you're handy with a hex editor, making a clear key is easy... just 512 bytes of 0's.

Sorry, I am a total noob trying to tidy up my TA-082 softdowned PSP.
It says "PSP is an original soft downed TA-082/86... keys need fixing
Recommended action: restore keys from memstick
Then i have two choices, fix keys using memory stick or fix keys without files.
Now I dont have any "key files" on memory stick, heck I dont even know what they are ;)
So I pressed fix without files,
Then it gives a big warning that this has the potential to brick it, in which now im chickening out :P
I'm currently running 3.40 OE and games and stuff are working, so Im a bit unsure if to procede.
Is the fix without files likely to brick it, or is that just a standard warning that all firmware updates and stuff seem to say?
many thanks for any help :)

It's ok to fix without files 4 the 1st time. Which dgder u use, 2.71 dg or 3.03 dg?
If u used 2.71 dg => fix w/o files leaves u bad key 6
If u used 3.03 dg => leaves u bad key 43
Either way u'll hv 1 bad key.
U can fix the last bad key by either make yr own key from harleyg's idtable or get a good key from some1 else.

I had a 2.71 which I downgraded with Hen-D and IDStorage.
So its pretty much as "safe" as can be to fix without files? Eg, as safe as it is to apply say any firmware update.
Im running 3.40 OE and wondering if there be any issues or anything?
I may sound a total n00b, but I just like to be ultra careful and its my first time in the PSP scene :) I am very grateful for everyones help and understanding :)

Hi, I just try it. When i Select Verfiy/Fix keys, it show this msg.
"Verifying key 0047 against file keys 0x0047.bin...failed!
Press O to skip, press X to correct key"
so i should press X?
also. when i do it. can i still use ver. 1.5 later? (3.40OE now, maybe recover to 1.5 later)
also, i have a hex editor, can i use it to edit those key?
as i want to keep battery charging while wifi is on
Yes, press X.
Yes, 1.5 will still work. Only changing key 5, not key 0x47, has the potential to make 1.5 not work.
Yes, you can edit keys by hand with a hex editor. Many people do that. Some future update to IdStorageManager will have hex editing built into it.
For anyone wanting to charge the battery while using wifi - apparently, clocking the PSP at 333 MHz will also allow the battery to be charged while wifi is on (I think that's due to the custom firmware hack to allow wifi at 333 MHz Dark Alex made some time back).

Other way around. :D
Also, if you used the 2.71 DG plus idreset, fix w/o files leaves you with a bad key 6. If you used the 3.03 DG plus idcopy, fix w/o files leaves you with a bad key 6 as well. So basically, in most cases, fix w/o files leaves you with a bad key 6.

Woops... that was a typo. Thanks for response!

I got the confidence and did a fix without files which fixed all but key 43 apprantly, I then used the rar file posted above in this thread to then fix key 43.
KeyCleaner now says:
"Chilly willy soft-downed TA-082/86"
Is this all I need to do to my PSP now, or is it worth restoring key 42 and 46 which currently show as 'cleared key - okay'? The others show as original key, except 05 which shows as patched.
Don't wanna do more than I need to, to get things going, as long as I can keep using the OE firmware releases :D

No need to fix key 42 & 46. Key 5 is patched on purpose so yr motherboard wld behave like TA079/81 & that ok. You r cleared.

Keys 0x42 and 0x46 are clear on normal PSPs. I COULD put them in the status as "original" as well, but I like the little bit of extra info that you currently get. If 0x42 and 0x46 weren't clear by default, I'd have the state say "bad key 0x42 and 0x46" much like it said 0x43 was bad.

Key 6 apparently controls aspects of the power - when to prevent startup of the PSP due to low battery... when to allow charging while the PSP is on... that sorta thing. It won't keep the PSP for working, and apparently affects no software that I'm aware of, but if you tend to run the battery down quite a ways, you might want to fix it.

What is key 0x0008? From the results people have posted in this thread, some PSPs have "no key" and others have "original key". I have also noticed that HarleyG's documentation does not cover this key and Chilly's Key Cleaner does not dump this keys value when performing a backup of the keys.

Most folks should start by choosing "Fix without files" when it is available as an action. That leaves you with only one key left to fix - 6 or 0x43.
Key 8 is used by PSPs with a new/different LCD module. It, along with some new display libs in the flash, controls the new/different LCD display module. Since key 8 is only on SOME PSPs, you may or may not have it. If you have it, it will show as "original" and in a dump. If you don't, you get a code of 0x80000025 and it won't be in a dump.
Keys 0x42 and 0x46 are normally clear, so a status of "clear" is the same as "original" for those two keys.

If you had the "hacked" USBHOSTFS driver on the PC, you need to replace it with the normal driver after fixing the keys. The hack is no longer needed. If you haven't installed the USBHOSTFS driver, and are not running the USBHOSTFS client on the PC, that's the problem. ;) :D

Neither needs fixing as they are both TA-079/81 PSPs. The only difference between them is one is older than the other (missing key 0x47). I'll probably change KeyCleaner to call the second one a newer TA-079. At the moment, it's a generic unpatched PSP... but it doesn't need patching.
@mominhaq89: If you choose fix without files, you'll find it then reports it as Chilly Willy soft-downed with a bad key 6. Then you just need key 6 for the next step. You can make a key 6 as described in the thread, or get one from a good TA-082 or TA-086 PSP, or some other way. I suggest reading the thread to get an idea of what is going on, then ask again if you still have questions. Oh, and watch the size of the pics... no need for HUGE blurry pictures. :D

If you had the "hacked" USBHOSTFS driver on the PC, you need to replace it with the normal driver after fixing the keys. The hack is no longer needed. If you haven't installed the USBHOSTFS driver, and are not running the USBHOSTFS client on the PC, that's the problem. ;) :D

Are you sure it's key 0x46, and not 0x47? I've never seen a PSP with 0x46 missing. That would almost certainly have to be some kind of custom hard-downed PSP as even the original TA-079 PSPs have a key 0x46.

It depends... you can use a key 0x43 from any PSP, but key 6 would have to be from a TA-082 or TA-086. Other keys have other requirements.
The best bet is to fix without files first, then see what keys are left. If you just used the original 2.71, 2.80, or 3.03 downgrader, fix without files leaves just one key left to fix - key 6 or key 0x43.

Finaly got my Hard-downed TA-82 fixed up just missing 0x0047 key as you said already chilly
Before IDStorage Manager
0x0004 cleared key - okay
0x0005 unknown status
0x0006 copy of original key 0x0005
0x0008 no key (code 0X80000025)
0x0041 original key - okay
0x0042 cleared key - okay
0x0043 original key - okay
0x0045 original key - okay
0x0046 cleared key - okay
0x0047 no key (code 0x80000025)
PSP is a TA-82/86
Key state: unrecognized
After using keys from my already fixed TA-82 that I ran KeyCleaner on and my manually made key 0x0006
0x0004 original key - okay
0x0005 patched key - okay
0x0006 original key - okay
0x0008 no key (code 0X80000025)
0x0041 original key - okay
0x0042 cleared key - okay
0x0043 original key - okay
0x0045 original key - okay
0x0046 cleared key - okay
0x0047 no key (code 0x80000025)

Well, if it's THAT old, it certainly doesn't need KeyCleaner. :) KeyCleaner is only for TA-082 and TA-086 PSPs. I'll add no 0x46 and no 0x47 to the recognition code as an old OLD PSP for folks that have one. ;)

Four levels of brightness is a feature of having the AC adpater plugged in, but I do think the custom firmwares lately have it hacked to allow four levels w/o the AC as well.

keycleaner output was
Checking IDStorage Key 0x0004.... no key (code 0x80000108)
repeat to key 0x0047
Unrecognized key state
I restored keys from memory stick. Good keys I got from a working 1000 / TA-079
When keycleaner restarts and checks the keys again there still all "no key"
I know this is not what Keycleaner was built for but I wanted to give it a shot. PSP is dead anyway. Anything else I can try ? Happy to check some beta code on it and see what results it gets.

Use IDStorage Manager I had issues with writing some keys with keycleaner so I used IDStorage Manager to write the correct keys then used keycleaner to check the key state and it was good :)

Four levels of brightness is a feature of having the AC adpater plugged in, but I do think the custom firmwares lately have it hacked to allow four levels w/o the AC as well.
how odd. i have four levels now even when i am not plugged in. i am on 3.40 OE.

That's what Chilly was saying, its a feature of the current OE firmware's but its not available when your running in the 1.5 kernal.
