View Full Version : Kojima: Back to the drawing board for MGS4
Legendary game producer Hideo Kojima has revealed that his team went back to the drawing board with Metal Gear Solid 4 and focused more on 'situation' than location and also hinted that more psychological gameplay battles will be integrated.
"I went back to the drawing board, back to scratch, and looked at what I did for Metal Gear 1 and 2, and for Metal Gear Solid 1, 2, and 3," he said through a translator. "Now I can't make Snake go into space to do his stealth mission, and we've exhausted the concept of the place, so now I thought why not create a situation rather than a place? And then I thought of a battlezone or warzone as the situation where Snake has to sneak in. So MGS4's game concept is playing hide and seek within a certain situation."

Can hardly wait for this; I wonder if he's going to make a few more rumble statements. He complained about it and sony worked out their differences with immersion rather quick; now you gotta wonder if he pushes the issue, will sony release a rumble enabled controller in time for MGS4, maybe do a package deal and include the controller with the game, or would GT5 be more appropriate for that?

Um no... He meant he went back to the drawing board before they released all the fottage at E3. Not really that hard to understand now, is it?

Hmm.....
Maybe "Back to the drawing board" == "Maybe we better just do it on 360" ??

or maybe ditch the whole concept of metal gear and make it a 3d shooter on wii?!?!?!......Hideo kojima have no reason to lie about what he is doing so keep dreaming for now my friend
if you would have read the rest of the speech on Gamespot you would have seen :
Kojima also cryptically hinted that the increased processing grunt of the PS3 would be used not only for better graphics, but for the introduction of "psychological" elements.
"I would also like to challenge the PS3's CPU power for not only what you can see, but also psychological effects, or psychological battles, where it can affect your gameplay," he said

Too much hype, this guy is an egocentric, like always.
He is just waiting the numer of PS3 sold ( really ) goes up a little bit, because with these number he can't get a good profit. Better to create 'suspense" and increase sales... Kojima.. Bah... take all the time you want, please./

Yep, remember Fable? :( Though I actually love that game, but it was too overhyped and people were let down.
EDIT: I wouldn't say Itagaki has a huge ego, he's just arrogant and a jerk...like all good artists are.

Sadly, he kinda confirmed it today on Kotaku that it was PS3 only. To paraphrase, he said the PS3 is a movie theater, the 360 a home dvd experience, and the Wii is like watching TV. Then he said MGS was for the movie theater.

lol. Sony must have wrote that line, cause talk about stupid. But that's good, now PS3 has a good exclusive. :D Not a big MGS fan myself, MG fan but not MGS. Once MGS came out, I liked it, MGS2 and 3 sucked to me, now I'm more of a Splinter Cell fan. Much more realism there and when games like that can't just run out of story like MGS can.

Well I've always been big on MGS and I've loved all of them. My only gripe with 3 was the camera, I hated running into enemies in plain sight just cause I couldn't properly see them; good thing they fixed it in subsistence which was pretty much perfect in my eyes. 2 aside from the somewhat funky story at the end was awesome, I did like the twists in the story, but they were kind weird.
As far as Kojima being an ego maniac, like Scorpio said, so are all good artist. He's as much of an ego prick as Itakagi, Miyamoto or any other highly successful artist. Quite frankly though, you can't say they don't have reasons to be like that, these are guys who maybe single handedly determine how a console will sell. Some of you may not like his games, but you would be a real small minority.

good to see someone thinks of new things, not releasing same crap over and over again

i concur.
i can't wait for this game, and it is the only thing that will justify the ps3 for me (that and blu-ray inevitably taking over the format war, as i probably wouldn't mind fancier movies sooner or later)

Well, anyway..is about taste, some people will always prefer games that have same type of game play or characters..like Castlevania Plataform versions, or Namco Tales of , MGS style, Grand Turismo, etcetc.
I just made a joke, because most of games today rest on shoulders oof "legendary" creators, or long time lasting characters like Mario that here or there have chances to get new game styles, but must often need to fall under a specific style of game play. Also we msut consdier new gamers, those who don't have any idea of thigns of the past and anything is white plain new to them :) .. Ahh..innocence innocence.. I bet is the lack of "gaming" innocence that make us old gamers so much selective on "new" content..while families, children and teens enjoy with "more of the same". Not that there is somethign wrong with it , though. :)
