does the device work for writing xbox 360 backups?

if it is a - writer and you got dual layer size games then no this is no good.360 will only boot + dual layer dvd media.
means you need a + dual layer writer.best is to buy a pioneer 111d.

It's a Dual Layer + Writer in a Notebook - so it works?
@ Home I have a Pioneer 110D ;-)
But I'm not at home right now - so I prefer the Notebook (if it works) what do you mean?

Mine was a HP(built for hp by hitatachi) HL-DT-ST DVDRRW GSA-4166B and I have not had any problems with it. I reflashed the firmware. You could try it and if yours does not work you could check to see If the fw is reflashable. I used a version from dangerous Brothers.
