Hello There,

I have recently bought a PSP, I actually don't have it yet as it's due tomorrow but I have a few questions I need answers too. I bought a White PSP with GTA: VCS, Burnout: Legends and Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops and 1gb Memory Stick.

Now I've been reading a lot about downgrading your PSP and it sounds like it could be worth it, but was wondering if any new PSP's are being built with anti-hackers software or something like it. Wouldn't surprise me if Sony are doing it. I've also read that the White PSP as something to stop hacking but not sure if this as any truth. I've looked at a hell of a lot of videos showing the process of downgrading from versions usually lower then 3.03 firmware so have got some idea, I've also been reading a lot about it. To be honest I'm still slightly lost with all this PSP modding scene but I could get the ang of it :D

I've also seen a lot of videos showing peoples PSP's with cool intros (when the logo appears and such) that look cool. The one thing I don't know all that much about is this 'Homebrew' but I want to see if I can downgrade first before I waste my time reading everything about it. :o

Anyway, Hello! I guess!

The most important things that you will need to know is its Firmware Version and also if its got a new motherboard or not (TA-82 and TA-86)

Now this is important don't run any UMD games on your PSP untill you know its firmware version since GTA VCS contains a 2.81 update on it, so if your unable to get the correct GTA LCS you will be stuck.

Hopefully your White PSP will be 2.71 and most lightly will be a TA-82 board, thats ok thought its downgrade able, if its 2.80 thats also fine its downgrade able.

If its 3.03 its a bit harder since you will then require GTA LCS with a 2.0 update on it to be able to downgrade it, if you already know someone with a PSP and this game or can find a copy/lend one your ok.

But if the PSP is running 3.10/3.11 the PSP cant be downgraded.

Thank you for the information, found it very helpful. I know it's pretty easy to downgrade from Firmware version 2.71 as I've seen it done on YouTube in a tutorial. Just hope it doesn't use the new firmware

Will it be possible in the future to downgrade from the 3.11 firmware version?(although I know at the moment that it's not)

Again, thanks a lot found it very useful :)

Anything is possible, it really depends on how much security Sony add and how much they change how it actually works.

Sooner or later someone will find a way to downgrade the PSP, all I can suggest is to stick with the version you get if its 3.10 or 3.11, and never upgrade again, until someone works out a way to downgrade... if the downgrade comes on a higher version, you can simply upgrade to that version to downgrade... if the downgrader is on 3.11 and you upgraded to a new official update when it comes out, your gonna feel grim. :(

Just on a side note, there are other ways that people are trying to take advantage of for downgrading, including directly accessing the Flash through hardware instead of software... just a thought of something you could keep your eyes open for
