I'm curious what people out there are doing. I was going to buy a seperate machine to mod, this way I could have system link going when I have company over. I'm not a fan of buying the same game twice. I realize that no one can tell me for sure, but once the banhammer drops how do you think they will do it. Will they ban the machine only from connecting to live? Will they ban the connected hard drive as well? In the case of modding an existing machine, getting banned with it. Could I then buy another machine and move my Live Profile to that machine without being banned? Once again I know only MS has the answers but I'm curious how you think they will handle this. I have over $50 in Microsoft Points at the moment. It would really suck to lose out on those and I don't want to spend all the points on crap I don't want just for the sake I might lose them.

you cant do system link like that, you will have to update both to the same dash and kernal, unless you keep both away from live and use updates from discs

Its completely at your own risk, but I go online all the time with my backups. In my opinion, if they were going to do something about it it would have been done a long time ago. I don't think there is much they can do about it, just look how quick they fixed the hypervisor exploit, but they have still left the firmware hack alone. There must be a reason for that.

i got one console for online and one just for gaming.
my modem wont accept an active pc and console at the same time so i got to shutdown the pc when i use the 360,then its fine.
only reason i got 2 is because i bought a premium for £220.00 secondhand from cashconvertors and i put it to use, mind you that said i customised the console.it has an xcm internal fan and talismoon rear fan both in blue led,a crystal flow and an xcm clear case.
so now i know i aint putting too much undue pressure on 1 console all the time.

That's a bummer on system link. Sounds like I won't be able to get that to work. I have no idea what it means by having the same kernel. Thanks for the info, it's interesting. I realize you're always taking a chance with a modded machine on live.

I don't know I've a funny feeling they will start banning once Halo 3 hits or maybe even possibly when ghost recon 2 is available in all territories. I'm personally going for Halo 3 as it's a flagship game and MS won't want that games sales to suffer due backups.

I think as soon as MS figures out how to ban people with hacked FW drives, they will do it. It makes no sense for them to wait for another game release to do it. They are losing money with everyone playing copies online and I'm sure they want to rectify this a.s.a.p. if it's possible. As for me, I just wish I knew if the harddrive I have now is eventually banned on my current machine (if I decide to mod it). Can I move that HD to an unmodded machine and play on live with no problems. Unfortunately noone has the answer.

I doubt they will risk it. I think theres about 10 million 360's out there, I reckon there is only a couple of hundred thousand at the most that are running hacked firmware. I know a lot of people who had no idea you could play backups until I told them.
