I'd have to say that these are probably the best looking custom icons that I've seen thus far. I like them a lot. :)
The only thing that I would personally change would be the "Game" icon. I don't feel that the SNES controller fits too well on a Sony based system. I personally would have chosen a dual shock controller to maintain the Sony theme. (I'm not asking or suggesting that you to change it, as this is more of a critique of the icons as a whole.)
I have to say that these icons are really making me consider going back to 3.03 OE though.

Go to the recovery mode of the PSP via pushing the R1 shoulder button when you start it. Then go to "Advanced" and then push "Toggle USB (flash0)".
Now connect your PSP with your PC via an usb-cable.
In the PSP go to the folder "vsh" --> "resource".
Rename the "thin.rco" to "system_plugin.rco" and put it in the resource folder. Replace files if asked.
dedat
03-03-2007, 04:37 PM
no worries, just completely switch of the psp, im assuming you are on an OE firmware, once ur psp is completely off hold the right shoulder button and switch it on. it should load up a screen with a few options. use the arrow buttons to go down to advanced settings and press X. connect ur usb cable to your psp and pc. scroll down to toggle flash 0 and press X. on ur pc, a window shpould appear. this is your flash0. you will see some folders, at thia point i advice you to copy all the folders and store them on your computer in case u mess something up. once you have done this open the VSH folder inside here ther shoulde be some more folders]. open the RESOURCE folder, inside ther you can place your topmenu.rco if you are on 303.0e-c or lower and your other rco files. remember to rename your thin. rco to system_plugin.rco before puttin it in the folder.

Great icons, the only ones that make me think about downgrade to 3.03oe (not because the others were bad, there are anothers great jobs).
Thanks for sharing yours, but what i love to know it's about your discover, about how u can make your icons "fluffy" (i think that was the term u use). How you make the transparency works so nice?

I can't locate the thin.rco file to rename it? which folder is it in?
dedat
03-04-2007, 06:34 AM
thin.rco is a file uploaded a couple of pages back by the creator of this theme. it is the waves u see in his picture. it is not on your psp's flash. if you want to use those waves then download this file http://www.sendspace.com/file/qtb50s and then you rename it to system_plugin.rco and put it in your flash 0 VSH/RESOURCE folder..

I am using 3.03ea and i can't find flash0 in the recovery.can you help me?
I had to search around a bit to find this answer as well. Many ppl assume since you're using 3.03OE that you're at C, but like many others here I hadn't seen a need to update to C since everything I needed worked fine as is. Anyway, I got the itch to update my XMB and started digging again. You have to be at v3.03OEC or greater to be able to access the flash0 & flash1 areas, otherwise you'll have the generic recovery areas D_A restricted ppl to so that they wouldn't hurt themselves. You'll need to use the search function of this forum to find the 3.03OEC update, as it hasn't been added to in quite a while (I searched by poster=Dark_Alex and found it right away).
After that, everything will be good to go (don't forget to copy all the contents of flash0 & flash1 to your HDD and savce somewhere you won't mess with, better safe than sorry  )

I went back to 3.03 oec just for these icons, they look great with my white psp and the high cloud background i made i also use a "smokey" wave that works great with the whole thing.. lovin it!.. just lovin it!, gonna try the new glow one see how that looks... just one question are you able to get it so the icons ...well glow.. when you hover over them like the original? or it that what the update is i know it says internet but i just wanted to know?... thanks for the great icons dude... really nice work!
Edit: just tried the new topmenu plugin and i like the little glow on the internet icon :) but i would like to see it on all of the icons too... anyway ta dude!
some screenies... (looks WAY better on the psp..sharper) added 3 because i just love how the wave effect moves around, it looks like its coming right out of the bright part of the background (just the effect i was after.

Ok...for some reason people still don't know how to make the wave effect w/ the background. and here is the answer. Just open any paint tool, the free one is in your windows...it's call paint. Now open up the image you want to edit, then click "save as." JPEG. Now rename this jpeg as 01-12.bmp now go to your recovery menu by holding "R" button and turn on the power. click advance, plug the USB in your computer, then click on flash0. A window should pop up in your comp. open vsh folder, then resource folder. now copy and paste 01-12.bmp. It will ask you if you want to replace the existing one...click yes! now enjoy the wave effect w/ your background. Remember 01-12.bmp is your background, not a wallpaper, so you have to delete your wallpaper in order to have this wave effect.

Thanks for the quick n00b guide Hackalot, I had no idea how to get the wave to work when I first installed a custom XMB. I'll have to add this to my customization notes for the future. I'm sure there are many here who didn't know this as well, they're probably just lurking, but I'm all for giving credit when it's due. Thanks!

thats pretty odd because i have these icons running on both my psp's right now (both are 3.40 OE), they worked perfectly i dont understand why it doesnt work for you
after some test, the problem was not the topmenu_plugin but an option of the recovery mode, I'd to disable the free umd region.

First off, incredible job MaDouL! This is by far the best icons I have ever seen!
I'm having a little trouble trying to get thin.rco to work with the background.
I have renamed abstract5.bmp to 01-12.bmp, and placed that in my resource folder. I have renamed thin.rco to system_plugin_bg.rco and put that in the resource folder as well.
So far, so good, right? Well in order to see the wavy line, I have to disable wallpaper (Do Not Use), but when I do so, all I get is an all white background, and I can barely see the menu selections.
What am I doing wrong? Do I have to reboot or something after my screen is all white or what? And for theme, do I pick original or the first white box I see underneath?
I am running 3.40 OE-A.
Thanks if you can help me out.
