View Full Version : Complete Case Design Mock Ups
We received some mock up pictures of some very cool complete replacement cases , from a team who wish to remain anonymous for the time being.
They are working on completing a top quality mould , then of course they will make the neccessary tweaks and amendments.
This will be a FULL replacement case NOT just a lid, utilizing only the best quality injection mold techniques.
Talk about it right here , it sounds very promising

It looks like it will be hard to get the disc out, as it looks like there is no room for your fingers:confused:

nice case, but my concern comes on how easy will it be to slide your fingers in there to take the disc out, seems pretty tight if you ask me.
and how trustworthy is a company that can't spell "RESET" correctly, PESET any1? :P
orre knows what i'm talking about, i'm not that much of an idiot, i'm not talking about popping the disc, but removing it, not every1 has tiny chinese fingers

thats what the pushbutton on the spindle is for
How are you going to get the disc out of the lid?
Looks kinda tight...

That just gets it off the spindle, that doesn't make more room to get your fingers around the disc to get it out ;)

I think that the two cases
http://www.maxconsole.com/content_img/GC_Case_Mockup-3.jpg
http://forums.maxconsole.com/attachment.php?s=&postid=40502
have the same spaces to put your fingers.
So if second was ok tihs one is ok too.

not exactly if you look at the second they made a lil edge thing so you can put your finger on the side of the disc.

Yeah, the first picture(new case), doesn't have those indents, or grooves so that you can get your hands on the sides of the disc.

i really like it, except for the way the powerbutton is done. it seems to be cut out a bit lower then it is on the retail case.
any particular reason for that?
Remember it is just a mock up for now - things will change/improve I'm sure!

i 'always' use the press button to eject my discs.... it's such a cool little... device.. either way, it's safer than pulling up on the disc and bending it from the side
anyways, i object to these full case mods...
1) the laser can't reach that far anyways, no point in using full sized dvds
2) greater chance of propeller effect since u have more (wasted) 'media' disc, further from the center of the disc, that could be unleveled, causing propeller effect
3) eliminates the cool looking LED (especially if you modded the LED to another colour)
4) costs money when u can simply just buy minis, or cut full sized dvd's into mini sized with sheers
ok, so u may disagree with a lot of my points, but u can't argue the fact that it takes away the LED... if someone makes a full sized case that incorporates the LED, i may consider it... (and it will outsell all other full case mods/moulds) because the LED is a very defining feature of the gamecube

Didnt noctice that the led disappeared when I first looked at the pics and I think that sucks. But as it was said its only a mock up and the company wants to hide their name for now so I guess there will be more enhancements in their next version.

Deepblade, u are supposed to push the press button, but i mean once you do, you have no way of grabbing the disc on the side so you can take it out, but again as Zeus stated it's a WIP, so i'm sure they'll fix that w/ nudges like the other case,
as for your points:
1) ppl use full DVD-R's not because of capacity, but compatibility and price
2)there shouldn't be a propeller effect if it's good media, as discs are tested for that purpose.
3)the Led mod is easy to fix, do it yourself
4) the money for the case (say 30$ CDN) is aobut the price of one stack of 10 mini's, then u'll actually be saving cause full's are cheaper, start saving.
one point you could've made though, MINI's are Sexxxayyy :P, but then again, you can still use mini's if you wish, but you also got hte option of a full, if you so wish to use them also.
Thx for your attention, back to work everyone :)

I do not think the pwr button is lower, it is just that the top surface is raised up towards the back. look at the jewel. I wonder why they did that - maybe there is a surprise feature!? (no I do not have any inside info, just my own speculation.)
I think all in all it is a much better looking case than gamecubecase.com's. The lid actually looks good!
Also note that they kept the ribbing on the lid. Mark my words the gamecube.com lids will warp (some look like they are already in the pics!).
Drawback is this finger issue.
OK so you hit the pusbutton (I don't understand the comment I always use the pushbutton - how else would you get it out?)
now the disc is basically lying on top on the spindle. The recess walls are so close it will be difficult to get the disc out. Of course you can push down one edge to pop the other up, but over time that will mess up your discs.
and oh yeah the LED mod,
I reposted a pic of shadowsan's cube mod from the old GCOS forum. He just moved the lens above the controller panel and I assume bent the led to point forward.
too lazy to repost the pic - search my posts...
ok I am not soooo lazy - HERE (http://forums.maxconsole.com/showthread.php?s=&postid=39918#post39918) it is!

sorry, my bad.. :(
yes, ok, how DO you get the disc out then? I guess we'll have to wait for newer pictures of the newer models.
..and ya, minis are sexy :D
...on top of that, common, even if mini's 'are' expensive, your 'backups' are worth the few extra dollars as compared to buying a '2nd' copy
i'm willing to pay $5 for a working backup of my metroid prime 2........

I like the way the jewel is slightly recessed in the lid so it has a rim round it. I think it looks more attractive than the original Nintendo case.
Wouldn't it be cool if replacements were available in black aluminium ? Or other metal material in various paint finishes. Be very pricey and production costs would be high so i doubt anyone would mass produce it but it would look very cool.

Couldn't help but notice the handle is missing from the back. Probably just for the time being as I'm sure they will keep it on. Then again, maybe not?

I honestly don't know why someone would want a "complete" case replacement that is identical to the original case except for the lid. Why not just sell us the top half of the case if you aren't redesigning the bottom in any way?
I do think this cases lid looks better than the gamecubecase.com pics, but as everyone has said...it doesn't look like you could get the disc out easily. The jewel being sunk in looks like a good place for dust to collect. I would rather it be flush with the lid. The same goes for the power button. Do you think there is a reason for the power button being indented?
Bottom line is...I'm ready for a full size DVD case lid. Who ever releases it first gets my $$$. I'm tired of waiting.

Looks really cool. I hope they will go all the way with this after refining it somewhat.
And may I remind you people that not everybody lives in the United States and therefore not everybody has access to cheap mini-DVD-R's or even access to them at all.

Dude, do you know that using caps for no reason is really lame ? Do you know gamecubecase is affiliated with ps2nfo (wich means they act the same, i mean i've been banned from their forum 'cauz i simply told them ps2nfo were idiots) ? Do you know their iced case looks ridiculous and cheap ? I'd probly do a beter job at doing my own plexi case ... Wait for the team xtender's case is the beter choice imho.
@mstrchf : A metal case would be indeed awsome :)

No power status led, pointless...
Theres an simple fix, just drill an hole infront in the cube and put an diode there.
Theres an guide for this at gamecubecases site

Then whats the point of a premade case iff you have to drill it ??
The whole full size mod can be done in 20min....
The point is thats there no suitable place to put the led in the replacement case, basicly theres no room for it.
The best place to put it, is on the front panel that holds the memboard + gameboard.
They could probaly have made you an new one, but what would the point have been.
Paying extra for something we realy do not need

Thats wrong, look at the fullsize mod...
Maybe you dont need a power led but I do, more then the ability to play
fullsize dvdr that make the life span of the dvdrom shorter. In top of that I see no point for a case that will cost 1/3 of the gc's price. Thats just my point anyway.

Ok, so a undisclosed source is either looking to build up a gosip about a full case or they really care what we think.....
to be honest, only seling tops is a crappy mod...yes its simple and cheaper but us real mod fans like more options....current xbox 3rd party cases on the market are really really shitty....they have ignored the resoinde in what the public wants. We want full cases and a freaking difuser!
with the current gamecube tops we want more colors and styles but htey would be crappy w/o the rest of the case...but somehting like a mix and match would be wonderfull power buttons, face plate, top, bottom, memory card doors, handle (option to remove handle), back....the works. honestally i can see this never happening but we can hope...
to me a fullsize caes woud stand more of a chance with the options that are called for....if your buyong a full size case its not just to play full size media it cuz you want to redesign the look of your system.
with that in mind to offer the top w/o the led status is just lazy...would take that much effort have the led shine through the 1/2 inch of the front above the front panel (if you can drill a hole for it to work then you can manufactor a case to work)....replaceable jewels is another must. IF you case is stuck with orignal jewel or even worse a 3rd party branded jewel....there are a gew sites out there selling replacement jewels and more to come....modders want options.
oh and more personal note...i dont like the recessed parts...starting to look more like a hotplate than a gaming system....
How many times must I say its just a mock up initial image by the team , it will be much improved for sure :D

I think they look pretty good. The whole deal with the lowered Jewel is probably just that it supports a pop in jewel, but has a sticker in the picture. I think the power button is lowered cuz the case is highered for some reason. Quite possibly a special feature. That's also probably why its a complete case replacement. Maybe there's some sort of bottom compartment. We'll just have to wait. Also:
We received some mock up pictures of some very cool complete replacement cases , from a team who wish to remain anonymous for the time being.
Could this be the project team xecuter is working on :D
And I'd like to argue with DeepBlade
2) greater chance of propeller effect since u have more (wasted) 'media' disc, further from the center of the disc, that could be unleveled, causing propeller effect.....
then he goes onto say....
4) costs money when u can simply just buy minis, or cut full sized dvd's into mini sized with sheers
Now I don't have very much insight to physics, but if a larger disc would have the propeller effect in a gamecube, it would have that same probability in a regular disc drive. It's not like disc drives have supports, the gamecube does not. Also, If you cut a full sized disc down to fit, WOULDN'T THAT HAVE A BETTER PROBABILITY OF CREATING A PROPELLER EFFECT THAN A FULL SIZED! Are you high or something?

Ok, Another think I'd like to add. I think it would be sweet if they had buttons you could depress to take the top off rather than unscrewing and screwing it back on. That could strip after awhile.

Indeed.... <strokes chin in psychiatrist mode> Based upon the composition of that post it appears that you subconsciously link "sick" and "brakken" - I wonder if yours is a one off case or have I discovered a new abreaction? :D
