After one hell of a debacle installing this bad johnny (triwing ftl), my friend and I finally got my cyclowiz in place and looking nice. The LED indicator is on, which, as far as my research suggests, means that it's working properly. I bought my Wii in early December, so I don't think I've got a D2B chipset. The wii loads regular games fine, but when I try to load backups from DVD+R RW or DVD-R media I get an error that says the wii can't read the disc. I'm burning the ISOs with Nero and with a writemaster drive. And, yes, I know how to burn ISOs. Please, someone, tell me what's wrong here!!  :(

try different media at low speed and maybe other drive beside the writemaster.

No dice. I bought some DVD+Rs of a different brand and burned at 6x with the same results. I suppose it could still be my DVD writer, but I burn bootable ISOs decently frequently with no issues. Any other ideas?

I had a lot of problems with my burner.. I was using an NEC 3520A and Taiyo Yuden TGY02 discs.. some worked.. some didnt.. then I got a Pioneer 111D and have not had a problem since. You might find someone with one of these and give it a shot.

I just tried an LG at a friend's house at 12x, still to no avail. I don't want to invest in a new burner until I can verify that that's the problem. Could it be anything else?

ok, well first off 12x is too high, stick to 4x.
also, have you installed the programmer connections? if so, have you definatly got them so they DONOT make a circuit, i.e. if you have a switch on the swtich is turned off.
and definatly try another writer, i`m in the UK and have never heard of a Write master

I haven't install the programmer connectors yet, because the whole situation was so unfortunate that I couldn't bear another moment of it. I went with the bare minimum and hoped to god it would finally be over. I guess I'd better just order a new burner ... tired of this nonsense. And we're totally sure it can't be anything else?

for the poster having problems with NEC 3520 ...use NEC 3520 with the latest official firmware upgrade to 3.07 and then use RitekF1 (branded as RiData DVD-R 16x). Burn at 4 x and u'll have no problem, i've been using Ritek G04/05 and F1 dyetypes since the GC mod days! :)
Enjoy
and ya the NEC 3500 series are dirt cheap, like 42 bucks in monopoly money! :)

Thanks for the tips. In the course of the past two days I have upgraded my drive's firmware, tried various burning software (including a newly upgraded nero) with various options and various (low) write speeds with various media, and wasted a fuckton of blank DVDs.
I think it's safe to call this one, and for the sake of future folks with such unfortunate circumstance: the TSSTcorp TS-H552B Writemaster son of a ***** will not work to burn Wii backups. I've ordered a Pioneer 112D from Newegg. Thanks for the help, everyone.

My friend mentioned something regarding the state of the Cyclowiz LED when we checked it, saying that the LED was dim. Is that normal, or could it be an (the?) issue?
We just tried using ImgBurn on a Verbatim DVD-R at 4x with an LG drive. It still doesn't work... I'm going out of my mind with this project.

now, i'm no expert on electronics..but i've had my fair share of experience soldering and what not...
i would suggest that if you haven't already, please use thicker gauge wire (stranded) for the G and V points, Ground and Voltage respectively. If there is any disturbance in the power it can cause issues.
Be sure to tin each stranded point nicely with solder before puttig it to the board. I find this works best. Use 20 - 22 AWG stranded for the power, and the standard Kynar 30AWG single-core for the rest and you'll have flawless results.

Alright fellas, maybe I had called this one a little early. The cyclowiz works fine, we went in and wired the thing without using the quickpoints... she runs like a dream. Thanks for all the help, and sorry I was sliiiightly retarded.
