WAB just released the sourcecode for the WabModcheap - an application which lets you run your backups without installing a modchip. You can connect your Wii to your PC (using a selfmade cable) and then use the application to simulate a modchip.
Get it at the download page

Go to the wab website www.wab.com and register to get the Modcheap download with the Windows exe file. :) BTW,what kind of cable needs to be built, does it have to be like the DVD tool cable? If so then that means you still have to solder the fricken thing into your wii

This is probably a really retarded question...but is there a way to make this into a .dol like file and fire it off in Cube mode using something like SDLOADER or Maxdrive Pro (what I have) etc. My guess is no because the Wii wouldnt run Wii games in GC mode...I wouldnt think...

Or maybe there is a way to get this on to a DVD and have the Wii recognize it as a game and be able to fire it off the wii menu screen....

Well seeing how they have a program for each drive type now it wont matter knowing what chip you have before opening your Wii, you are going to have to open it anyway.
