Hello,
I've been using Gcos 1.4 for a few days now with pso and bba, and have had success with a few backups working, especially after adjusting my laser.
However, I'm having an issue with Mario Golf NTSC on my usa GC. Something is wonky with the iso. I've dumped alot of gc isos, so the issue isn't with my dumping ability, as I dumped it twice and have the same problem.
First up, in GC-tool, it has a garbled name, and no logo-picture, and second, in GCOS it won't boot at all. The Original game image dump will stream through pso with GCsim, but it has problems with freezing up after a while of playing. Now, I've messed around with it alot, i've completely rebuilt the ISO, and that at least solves the picture logo/garbled name problem, but it still won't boot. It shows the game's info now, but insists that it's a jap game (In Gc-tool it says USA/NTSC)
I've also used fstfix with the 32k fix, and still same result. I have no idea what to do with this!
It seems the people who get any results with this game either downloaded the rom from some release group, or have a Pal copy of the game which seems to work find on GCOS.
Any ideas? Anyone else have similar problems?
(On a side note, I haven't noticed anybody say anything about backing up Mario Kart Double Dash... Is it because everybody actually bought this game?? haha, anyways, does anyone know if a backup of mkdd works without any problems? Does it need the stream fix, even with gcos 1.4?)

the version of mario golf i have has a messed up banner in gctool but it works fine when burnt to ritek mini dvd's after tweaking the files to the 32k boundry
mario kart double dash works fine without any tweaking at all
Mario Kart works excellent, it was the first game I experimented with to get to work and it has never given me a DRE. It seems to be very lenient. I also have Mario Golf but have never tried to back it up due to space limitations on my hard drive, but I could try to take a look.

For those that have mario golf working, is it the NTSC version? Because as I said, I've heard that the PAL version works perfectly with no problems.
As to my media, I am usuing memorex mini-dvds, which are RitekG04.
When I tried to burn mario golf the first time, my computer was insisting that the disk was still blank after burning, so that might be a bad burn issue or something like that.
I'm pretty sure that my ripped image is fine, because it streams over GCSIM. It boots and plays.
I haven't had to do that 32k tweak thing to any of my other backups, and I've been testing mario golf on full sized memorex dvds, because one of the issues that I have right now is that the only source for good mini-dvds right now are like 4 dollars a disk. The gamecube doesn't like the full sized disks I'm using (dres all the time after a few moments) but they are good at least for testing and the mario golf disks I've burnt won't even boot. Just a black screen after the logo.
So, I'm not sure if I should just try to burn it untouched again to a mini-disk and hope for the best, but as I said, I don't like wasting those mini-disks.
Btw, thanks for the tips on mario kart, That's good news to hear, at least!

I haven't gotten around to burning Mario Golf yet(it's just on my computer hard drive), but I am going to some time today and I'll let you know.
By the way, I use a NEC 3520a burner with Ritek go4 mini dvd-r's burnt at 4x, and have never had a DRE with my 20+ backups.

God, how embarassing.
I've had no problems with running the ritek minis, but apparently, as I've just found out, I had one! Something went wrong with the burn when I put it on a mini disk.
Instead of thinking that though, I assumed something was wrong with the Iso (because of all the problems the games history has had.. the banner issue, never working with any stream programs until GCSIM) So, I messed with it for hours and finally now decided to just try to reburn the orginal on a full sized DVD, and it boots. Of course, It dre'd right away because as I said the gc hates this media, but as a test, it showed me that it will work when I buy a new batch of minis today.
Thanks for everyone's help on this!

Damn it all.
Thinking I had it figured, I got some more mini-discs, and burnt it to one, after verifying, I tried it out and it booted up, but now it Dres at the menu screen, always when trying to access the memory card, whether it's in or not. I can't check the Pi/ jitter thing in dvdinfo pro because it freezes the program and then won't close if I try to use that feature.

Well, I guess I finally solved my problem.
Damned mario golf, seems cursed to screw with me so much!!
I guess I have a mediocre burner because I decided to waste another mini-disc and try one more time and now I'm playing it ;)
But I'ts disturbing to me that this Pi problem might be causing errors on other backups I've made, though I've not run into any other difficulties so far. Is there any other program that can check this? Or does anyone know why mine might be freezing up my computer?

I think it's time for you to get a new burner ;). I suggest either the NEC 3520A or the Pioneer 109. Both can be purchased for under $60 on www.newegg.com.

This game gives me problems too, I burned it twice but it works the same, it's almost like it runs out of memory for some reason, if I play 1 player i can get to the 9th or 10th hole, on 2 players it gets to the 4th or 5th hole, and so on. It has nothing to do with how long it's on for, it's how much stuff has been loaded.
edit:
more specifically, different sounds that have been loaded I think. the wierd thing is turning the music off seems to have made it worse

Yeah, I got through 18 holes on the first course, but on the second one, I got an error on hole 9, and then on hole 5 the second time.
Not a DRE, but a different kind of error. Says "An error has occurred. Please turn the power off and refer to the Nintendo GameCube Instruction Booklet for more information."
This might be DRE related though, perhaps it loads up a bit of bad code and then had the error. Both times it's happened right as I hit the ball onto the green, instead of saying "Nice On!" like it usually does, it goes to the next putt, and boom- error.
Update:
Well, I might have solved this recent problem (if anyone else is actually experiencing my same problem!) I just made it through another 18 hole game on the second course without any problems, and it might be one of two things.
1: (doubtful) My cube is warmed up now, I also had it right next to my ps2 and the air-vent was being a little bit blocked. Like I said, doubtful.
2: (More likely) I tried a different swap disk. I was one of the people who was having trouble with DREs in RE4 until I started using wind waker as a swap disk instead of just leaving PSO in. That fixed the RE4 problem, and I just did it and made it through a game soooo maybe it's the same problem. (Harder to tell with Mario Golf because the error occurs much less frequently) I beleive they are along the same lines though, the RE4 error happened seemingly at random, much like this one.

Well, I just tried Mario Tennis PAL on my Cube. First, I burned it to a Mini-DVDīR (Ritek). Intro played fine, but during the tournament, the DVD unit made some crazy noises. I watched @ it and saw that the laser was at the outer side of the disc. It looked like the laser will get outside of the disc soon :/ After a while I got DRE. Well I thought thats my old Mini DVD-R problem so I burned it again to a DVD+R regular sized disc (I never have problems with these DVD+Rīs). But guess what - same problem - strange noises and then suddenly DRE. So I tried the following: I used FSTFIX (1.5) with 32k align & fullsize parameters (NO streamfix). Then I fired up CDRWiN again and burned it 4x on a Mini DVD-R (same pack as before). Now that was really interesting. The disc spinns totally smooth now, all I can hear is the cooler from the GC itself. Only when thereīs some loading u can hear it really silently. And the laser does not load from the outer side of the disc - itīs now loading from the middle of the disc. It seems, that the re-alignment put the garbage to the outer side where it belongs to. I played about 2 full tournaments, and had it paused for abour 25 mins - no DRE.
So wouldnīt it be usefull to re-align all the isos to 32k ? So the garbage (if thereīs any) will be moved to the outside of the disc ? Or is Mario Tennis the only game that works this way ?
greetings
ize-cube
I just tried FSTFIX on Mario golf like ize-cube suggested for mario tennis, it worked great, i only played one game but a two player game before wouldn't get past the 5th hole without an error, I just played an 18 hole 2-player game that went into a 2 hole sudden death, so I'd say it works.

What options did you guys use on fstfix?
It played fine the last two times I played it with wind waker as a boot up disk, but the last time I tried it gave me an error. I played alot though, it finally errored after like the 3rd game through. Again instead of saying "Nice On"
I should learn to save right when it doesn't say that! haha
When would it error for you guys? Was it a DRE, or was it the error has occured problem? I got the Dre problem earlier, but now the error is different.

I used t and f too, with fstfix 1.5, basically I did it exactly like ize-cube said. My image was already full sized and the t option's probably all you need, but I figured I'd do it just like he said too. Using golden eye rogue agent as a boot disk does the same thing, use fstfix and fix the image if you want to fix the error problem (I haven't had any problems so far anyway)
I always use my freeloader disc to boot games and every time I tried a different boot disc for games I was having issues with if it helped at all it never actually fixed the problem, just masked it a little maybe, for all I know it could be a coincidence that makes one boot disc seem better than another, I'd say if there's ever an alternative to using different boot disks, use it instead.
edit:
actually, I still get occasional errors after playing for long periods of time, but it's still much better, what the hell is the deal withn this game? It's pissing me off, oh well, at least I can get through at least one whole round of golf now. If I wasn't running low on dvds I'd try wiping the garbage data and fixing it with fstfix, but this backup works good enough now

That's what I'm saying. The Errors seem to be almost random! I've gotten through several rounds now without the error but it's popped up the last two times on me. I don't want to have to re-burn it again because I'm very very low on minidiscs.
As for the boot disc thing, I know for a fact that it helps with RE4. I couldn't play that game at all, it would give a DRE after about a minute every time, seemingly at a random. Then I used Wind waker and now there are no DREs at all.
So I was hoping that would solve the problem with mario golf, and I thought is had, but now I'm getting that same damned error even with Wind Waker.
Bah.
Molton, are you also getting the same error as us? and it is occuring when the ball goes on the green, and instead of saying Nice On?
Or are yours different?

sometimes it's at the "nice on", but it's happened at "par" and "bogey", etc. and other points... I just bought a PSP and had to come to work 15 minutes after I got home

i had the same problem with mario golf, after a few coasters i burn it onto a DVD+RW (re-writable) instead of DVD-r and it cured the DRE problem.
Burnt with a pioneer 107D @ 2.4x speed + finlaize DVD on Nero 6.3.1.6

Actually now, I'm about 95% sure that it's a bios issue of some kind, because after I got a viper chip, I stopped having any issues with it at all. Runs perfectly every time.
