IBM developers are reportedly providing some form of aim to games developers in a bit to help them become comfortable with utilizing the CELL processor. It is stated that IBM's expertise can go beyond what Sony offer as they created the chip.

Figuring out the PS3’s Cell processor and its multiple processing elements would be easier with the help of the people that actually created the chip, High Moon chief technical officer Clinton Keith told Next-Gen in a phone interview.

Keith said that IBM's expertise goes beyond what Sony's support can offer in regard to the Cell.

“We’ve been talking to Sony for almost two years now, but they didn’t create the Cell," Keith said. "They created the architecture for the PS3 and they’ve created a lot of the developer libraries. We’ve had access to those [Sony] engineers… but they’re not the hardware engineers. We want to hit [the Cell] on all fronts. We’re talking to the guys [IBM] who designed this chip and have been working on it for five years now.”

the problem is that the cell is very powerful but the hardware around the cell is limiting it so much that i think they should have just used a quad core design like the new amds

I think that is doing him/it to discover the secret of the processor cell!.

lol if they went with a dual core design (no quads yet) like amd then they would have a cell processor that works slower in dual core processing then a single processor (amd's dualcores are known for being slower with 2 than with 1 core). also the cell being that much more powerful isnt the excuse, a processor doesnt have to be powerful to be hard to program for. its just not the same architecture programers are used to. ibm can only help so much, they made the cell sure but what good are they? the developers would need nvidia and a few more manufactueres to help them if thats the case, heck why are the developers even needing help? i dont see nintnedo and ms devs asking or even requiring any help, sony obviously needs to workout their toolsets next gen.
