View Full Version : UK Retailer GAME: No PS3 unless you spend at least £550
We received an e-mail from an angry UK gamer who had just been notified that leading retailer GAME are accepting pre-orders for the PS3. The 'bad' part is that they only accept pre-orders in two bundles, with each one costing over £550 ($1100 maximum).
Hi, i live in he UK and was just notified that GAME (the main video gamer retailer in the UK) was now taking pre-orders on the PS3, however I was alarmed the see that you only had 2 options for per-order. 1. 'Sony PlayStation 3 with Resistance: Fall of Man, Call of Duty 3 and Motorstorm' costing a whopping £554.96 ($1078.01). or 2. 'Sony PlayStation 3 with Resistance: Fall of Man, Virtua Fighter 5, Virtua Tennis 3' this bundle costs even more at £564.96 ($1097.43). i think this is a complete rip off.

Or you could get off your backside and go out of the house and into a GAME store (300-400 in the uk alone) and order one on it's own for £425.
Not really sure why people have a problem with bundles as you do need games to play on the machine and it's not like they are making you buy Genji.

They don't seem bad bundles, tho an extra pad in the deal wouldn't go amiss. As already stated tho, it's not the overall cost of the bundle that is the problem, the extra mark up for a few games added is no different from what has been offered for the Wii and 360, it's the initial price of the console that does the damage.
When you can get similar packages for the 360 and Wii for over £200 less plus extra controllers, it does not look good at all. Sony need to get off their arses and release the 20gb version. I doubt it will have much of an impact due to all the extra's you loose which makes the 60GB the only real way to go, but even so it will boost sales more than the current stupid price.

i must admit, the games in the bundle are really COOL, and must-have anyways. But of course, for people who want to buy the console ALONE, with no games, with nothing, then sure, thats no good for them.
There such guys... And well, if its too expensive for you, you have two options:
-SHUT THE FUK UP, and dont complain about stuff you cant afford;
- Go find a JOB, and you can get it.
Me personaly, im buying a ps3 a bit later. I need a good HDTV first.
cheers

In case you haven't noticed it's not just those that can't afford it that are complaining, those that have bought it and those that can afford to buy it (like me) are also complaining.
But just so i'm even handed, i also happen to think that given what the Wii is, i.e. an upgraded GC, it's also overpriced, and as for the 360 well the base console is excellent value but the extra's i.e. wireless controller & hard drive are way over priced.
Let's face it there's nothing people like better than to ***** and moan, and Sony have just happened to give us a hell of a lot to ***** and moan about.

A somewhat childish comment, all my friends are working and in well paid jobs and they can't justify paying that price. I am lucky and have a very well paid job, I could afford 2 PS3's and some games easy on what I take home each week, and still i think it's too expensive. It's not a matter of if you have a job and how much you earn it's just a case of it's just outright too expensive for a games console. Also bare in mind that the Ps3 costs nearly half of what many working people take home each month wheras the Wii and 360 are closer to around 1/4 or 1/3. If it was even just brought inline with the US prices it would be almost reasonable, but no as per usuall the UK gets overcharged, not because there are lower profits selling here at the US price, but because people in the UK are so used to paying extra so retailers take advantage of it. The price diference between the 20GB and 60GB version or the 360 HDD shows how much the prices are marked up over the cost of what you get. Tho I guess if you don't want to buy at these high prices you just don't buy and so prices have to go down, but you can guarantee there are impatient idiots out there who will keep the prices up.

It's probably to help stop the greedy ass scalpers from selling them on ebay.

I love the fact that whenever someone complains about the PS3 some wise-ass always comes back with the proverbial, "the only reason you are complaining is because you cannot afford it.." comment. As if I base my decisions about products solely on their price tag, "that Ferrari Enzo costs like $2 mill...yeah I heard its teh suxxxooor!"

I swear its only like that if you don't preorder PS3s
Because when 360 was released, it had bundles for those WHO DIDNT PREORDER THE CONSOLE.
So I'm assuming it is only for people who havent preordered the console in advance, I'm assuming thats why.
Otherwise, how they gonna get money from customers who want it out of nowhere

and if you want a Blue-Ray player it's a bargin, everyone accepts that, but the point that everyone has made since the PS3 launched is, what if you don't care about having or want a Blue-Ray player? then it's a hell of a lot of money for a games console.
I justified the high cost of the PS2 (it was a lot when i bought it) because i could play DVD's on it as well, but the fact is in the 4 years i had it i think i only played one DVD on it, and that was only to see what the play back was like.
Take a look back over the history of games console's and you'll see a common excuse to justify high prices is "look it a multi-media player, it does this and this and this", fact is i want a console that does one thing really, really well and thats play games.

A point that Nintendo have been making for years.
Consoles are for playing games. Its like a mobile/cell phone with a music player built in. How often are you going to use its crappy sounds and low memory if you have an 8GB nano?
Consoles should be for playing games, not trojan horses for some new media format. It almost seems to me that the PS3 is a blu ray player with a console tacked on instead of the other way around.
It is for this reason alone that I want the PS3 to fail, it represents everything that is wrong with big companies. They think that they can force something on you because they want to start selling it to the masses. In their arrogance Sony have forgotten the golden rule of business with the PS3. The customer is king, if they dont think its worth it, they wont buy it no matter how slickly marketed it is or how bullish its creators are at press conferences.
