View Full Version : No new DS Cart Protection Afterall?
Recently it was rumored that Nintendo had introduced new copy protection on the game Jet Impulse. It was said current methods could not dump the title as normal, however a group has succeeded in dumping the respective title.
WRG claimed the DS title Jet Impluse may have introduced a new protection method as their dumper was unable to successfully dump it. However, Legacy have succeed in dumping the title so it appears all these protection rumors were just a myth.

Perhaps another dumping method was used? They're not really specific about this.

Game is working on my Simply and M3CF just fine. I can confirm it works on SC-CF as well.

Well even with the 360 there are games that are hard to rip through traditional methods. Star Trek for example. In order to come up with a new copy protection they have to have new hardware or firmware to support it.

I think the only method to protect from piracy on a non-internet key based console is to outperform the piracy methods.
AKA Castlevania: POR, too fast for most cards.

too fast for most sd cards but certainly not a problem for micro sd cards.

Once again, it was not "new protection" it is simply a different mask ROM than the dumper was made for. Same thing happened when the first smaller macronix chips appeared (aka: 1.5 "protection").
DS card encryption is/was cracked. It is hardware based, in the DS itself. Without changing every DS out there, there is no way to update the protection. Period.
The dumper tool was insufficient for the dump. It has been a standing fact that the group who made the dump have a parallel port PC cable and client that can do the dumps without resetting the cartridge to get the header (which was what the group who failed had a problem with).

Sandisk cards lock up. You just have to push it. Mostly when tapping start while casting spells in tandem in the same room as Wind the ghost.
Only cards that don't freeze/crash (two diff. things) are Kingston Japan, PNY Toshiba, and PNY Japan.

Thought I'd just chip in and say that POR works perfectly well on my Lexar 1gb normal sized SD card

POR works fine on my Corsair 1GB micro SD so its not just Kinston and PNY.

POR hates my Adata to death, totally random locks. Everythnig else runs fine though, so it's not a big deal. Dunno if I should try buying another card or not, doesnt seem to be a way to make sure its a japan made card when buying online, and I dont want to waste the $11 when I could just use my original cart anyways..

Just stand in the same room as Wind as spam the spells while spamming start.
The intro is actually one of the easiest parts to run.
Anyways, new cards are being made everyday, I only know that 2 weeks ago, those 3 were the fastest, and when POR first arrived, only those 3 could play it with absolutely no problems.
BTW all Kingston OEM's are Kingston Japan's, so if you can find an OEM on newegg, go for it.
