Official Press Release
SEGA® of America, Inc. today announced that Virtua Tennis 3 on the Xbox 360™ video game and entertainment system from Microsoft will, for the first time in franchise history, allow players to compete with gamers around the world in Ranked and Player Modes for top scores on the Leaderboard on the Xbox Live. Virtua Tennis 3 will also support stunning 1080p graphics and a brand new VT:TV live spectator mode when the game launches.
For the first time, Xbox 360 gamers can experience high-definition 1080p graphics on their console with Virtua Tennis 3. With the highest digital video standard enabled on the Xbox 360, each of the 20 tennis pros featured in Virtua Tennis 3 appear even more realistic, while the court environments deliver a newfound richness in colour and texture. The increased levels of detail can be picked out in the spectators and backgrounds, and despite the increased number of pixels on screen, the smooth gameplay mechanics and movements of the players are just as fluid as ever.
The online gameplay for Virtua Tennis 3 consist of a number of features set to make the most of the Xbox Live network. Players can take part in Ranked or Friendly modes, and enter Exhibition games or Tournaments in both singles and doubles matches across the Live network. The all new VT:TV real-time spectator mode allows players to view their friends or other top-ranked players compete in tournaments, adding an all new strategy in sizing up the next opponent.
“Virtua Tennis 3 on Xbox 360 is definitely the next generation of tennis” commented Matt Woodley, Creative Director of SEGA. “We’re striving to create games which not only have great gameplay but also can make the very most of the Xbox 360’s amazing technology.”
“We’re thrilled to be able to say that Virtua Tennis 3 will be coming to Xbox 360, showcasing an online experience with Xbox Live that you won’t find on any other systems and spectacular 1080p graphics,” said George Peckham, general manager, global third party publishing for the Interactive Entertainment Business, Microsoft. “Fun and easy to pick up and play, Sega is hitting another ace with Virtua Tennis 3.”

kind of makes you laugh when you remember back articles that said things like
Sony has touted the PS3's ability to render 1080p images as a large benefit over the Xbox 360, which is incapable of generating them at such a resolution.

Ars did an article about GOW in 1080p in January.

My bad, it was upscaled to 1080p. The back of the box says "1080i".

So can the xbox 360 display 1080p without HDMI? I know it can play HD with components but I'm not sure if you need HDMI for 1080p?

1080p is restricted by tv not by the source. Alot of makers are using hdmi only because it has the ability to protect hidef content it has nothing to do with visual capabilities

You are correct, my box says the same, but it doesn't use real 1080p. I bet it was a typo.

It's upscaled. Going to the Capcom forums, someone asked and a Capcom employee was able to ask the dev team and it doesn't "natively" support 1080p.

Generally speaking you need a VGA cable currently to get 1080p. I unfortunately only have a 1080i TV, but damn that's good enough for me.
Oh.. and I forgot to mention... man I can't wait for this game.

Not true,
While not many do, there are some sets that take 1080p through component input. Rare but possible.

The Japanese version of DOAX 2 and Blue Dragon are both 1080p.
Although they're not released here.

Nope, you can play game on 1080p with your component cable. The only reason you would need VGA cable it to watch DVD's at 1080p. The 360 only upscales DVD to 1080p with the VGA cable because of the CSS security policy's
Games are all the way with component

My bad, i read something a while ago in...i think it was "what lcd plasma magazine" it had a section on the 360 and ps3 and it said that even with 1080p, using component istead of hdmi, you still werent getting true hd, something to do with picture quality and compression or something and also sound quality...so that stuck in my head. also next time muppets, dont take the piss, a simple "no sorry mate you've got that wrong and here is why".........but thats obviously a little bit difficult for little mugs trying to impress others, by making people,(ie me on this occasion) look stupid. grow up a little bit and next time make a worthwhile response to explain why I was wrong.

had you said something about questioning true hd and not flat out saying "still its not true hd" you may have gotten that response but because you insisted on making the statement in that manner you got what you did. And why are we muppets, because one fact leads to the same answer hence our reaction? Thats like asking a crowd whats 2+2 and saying nobody has a mind of there own for saying 4

first off why would i ask a question when i already stated in the last post i read something in a very good magazine and as far as i was concerned that was the truth and it stuck in my head, hence why i made that statement. If someone did the same thing i wouldnt mock them, i'd explain why they are wrong, neither of you lot did that...so what was the point in replying to the post!? If you have nothing useful to say, don't respond. Also one of you, pointed out I only had 7 posts and that meant i didn't have a clue?! lol....you have how many posts??? 2000+ and yet you still haven't learned how to talk to people, it's not "lets mock the noob, he aint got a clue time", someone with that many posts you'd think would be extremely helpful, obviously not. although back to your original thought-the statement i made, i can see your point but maybe we can both learn from this.
So anyone would you mind explaining the difference in quality (if any) between component and hdmi? cheers

If the difference between component and HDMI is anything like VGA and DVI, I don't think you have much to worry about.
You can barely notice a difference with your face an inch away from the screen.
