View Full Version : Need help with buying a downgradable PSP

I'm planning to buy a PSP in the near future, but I need to be sure that the PSP I buy can be downgraded to firmware v1.5 and will be able to run all homebrew PSP applications.

Are there any PSPs out there which can't be downgraded? If so, how can I tell which PSPs they are without opening the box?

I heard that some PSPs need Grand Theft Auto: Libery City Stories to downgrade them. Which PSPs are those? How can I tell which ones they are without opening the box?

Thanks in advance :)

try reading all the other threads where people have been posting the exact same thing as you

I did look for other threads and a lot of my old questions were answered, but I couldn't find any answers to the questions I made in this thread. I apologize if I didn't look hard enough.

to make this quick, the ta82 and ta86 boards can be downgraded, ALL.
so i would not bored to check what psp i got from the shelfs: the worst u can get its a ta86 with 3.01 or 3.03, but so far only 2.71 Ta boards can be downgraded to 1.5 and upgraded to something else, but i may be wrong on this.
i saw a 303 downgrader but u should check if it supports ta boards as well.
or just get over ebay and get a preowned psp and ure done.
oh, regarding gta, u need lcs unpatched one to use some of the downgraders. the sony code for this one is ULES00151 because the others are patched, and so far its impossible to use them.
i know that mines arent so great infos, but they should clear something at least.
good luck.

EDIT: there u go, full list ahead :)

Before you buy a PSP for that special gamer this Holiday season, you have to ask yourself one thing: do they homebrew? If the answer is yes, you better take care not to get a unit with a firmware over 2.0 — otherwise, no hackie. You can determine the firmware version by checking for a letter code above the UPC on the bottom of the box.
no letter = 1.0 (Japanese Release) 1.5 (North-American release) confirmed
A = 1.5 confirmed
B = 1.51 confirmed
C = 1.52 confirmed
D = 1.52 confirmed
E = 1.52 confirmed
F = 2.0 confirmed
G = 2.01 confirmed
H = 2.50 confirmed
I = 2.60 confirmed
J = 2.70 unconfirmed
K = 2.71 confirmed
L = 2.81 confirmed

Simply: Every single psp available to buy, RIGHT NOW, is downgradable.

Thanks for answering :), but how can I tell which PSPs need GTA:LCS to be able to downgrade them to firmware v1.5 without opening the PSP's box?

PSP's with 3.10 firmware cannot be downgraded at all (but you won't find any in stores yet anyway).

PSP's that have firmware 2.81-3.03 need GTA: LCS to downgrade.

PSP's with 2.80 firmware and below don't need GTA to downgrade.
