Microsoft's Chris Lewis has dismissed speculation of a Xbox 360 price cut ahead of the launch of the PS3. Lewis noted Microsoft are offering great value and choice in comparison to Sony.

“There are no plans [for a cut],” he said. “We’re offering outstanding value and choice – especially when you compare us to our soon-to-be competitor.”

people aren't getting their money's worth with the ps3 either, at least i'm not. i've owned it over a month now and it has less than 6hrs of gaming on it. i use it only for a dvd player, not even an hd player since i only have talladega nights and don't plan on buying any blu-ray movies.

if they (sony) don't get some interesting games out in the very near future, this thing is gone.

No I guess not the Advancd XBOX360™ is ~comparably to the PS3™~ just plain better value for Money at this point.

PS3™ - One Console (W/ 20/60-HDD), Instruction Manuals, One Controller and One Power Cord. (AFAK: That's all you get for your €599.99(EUR), investment.

WHERE THE HELL IS THE FRICKIN HD-AV CABLE S0NY®™?!?!

XBOX 360 Advanced - One Console (W/ 20-HDD), Instruction Manuals, One Controller, One Power Brick and a HD/AV Cable for my 32" LCD Telly.

Now onto the Goodies (i.e. Pack-in's), Two First Party Games Kameo: Elements of Power and Project Gotham Racing 3 and a Three Month Gold Card for LIVE!
That's um lets see about €160.00(EUR), right there 2x €60(EUR) + €20(EUR) for Live!.
Plus I also Got NFS: Carbon as a Pack-in as well, so that's another €60(EUR) right there.

So although I paid €449.99(EUR) for the XBOX360™ by the time I knock off the what the price of the Pack-ins could have been, I've managed to get the Advanced version for about €250.00(EUR),.

It's no wonder why Microsoft doesn't need to drop the Price on the 360™ compaired to the PS3™, the XBOX™ just sells itself...

The only advantage of this method is, the drive used for MOVIES is not the same drive use for games, so therefore less wear and tear on the motor of one drive, ALSO, if any of the parts BREAK, the consumers are EASILY able to swap out parts with new ones. Also, the WIFI is more expensive because it is a/b/g opposed to the regular b/g adapter in the PS3. Additionally the WIFI and HD-DVD drive can be used on a PC as well (although pointless for the WIFI unless you are looking for a USB a/b/g adapter).

You can get a Xbox 360 with two Wireless Controllers, Kameo, PGR3 + 3 Months Live! for about 350-400 Euros.
I paid 260 Euros for this thing, without Live and PGR3, ok, it was already 3 weeks old.
Even the Wii is more expensive if you buy the Component Cable, another Remote + Nunchuk and two games. I have paid 250+60(Zelda),+ 60 (Controller + Nunchuk) +30 (Component Cable) = 400(!). So I think that you get a great value for your money on the X360.

I was talking to some Kids in a Store this Morning (they talked me into getting 'em Saint's Row for em at the Register (i.e. 18-Only), ~Hay they had the Money so it's on them~ about the Wi-Fi Dongle and just laughed it off, as a Gaming Adapter (from Netgear), costs about a Third less then Microsofts version, and how I could use it on anything with an Ethernet Port on it. ~Orig Xbox™, Playstation 2™ or the Playstation 3™~.

But, it does dawn on me about the 'A' in 802.11A (read 5Ghz), as opposed to B,G and N's 2.4Ghz, and Microsoft ~recomends~ 'A' on the Dash.

I take it though that in order to recive 802.11a Broadcasts I'd have to also have a Router capable of sending 802.11a aswell right?!

I'm not sure I've seen that written anyware noticeable on the Packaging though.

And my WLAN can only do B/G so 'A' would seem to me a waste of Money!

the wireless adapter for 360 supports B/G/A... A is the fastest and most secure of the bunch but is also the most expensive to buy equipment for... so yes the linksys ethernet to wireless bridge adapter is a better deal if you dont have a A network and dont mind using extra cables..

the official usb adapterhas a custom design to fit the 360, so of course you will be paying more...

ever lookup the price of a wireless card that supports B/G/A? its expensive..

Xbox offers the console to a reasonable price. I think that if the Ps3 cost how much today's xbox there would not be history for anybody.

Moneys worth for what?

Watching movies?

The 360 plays HD games and standard DVDs straight out of the box and that is more than enough for most people.

The 360 in the UK is roughly £349.99 with 3 good games of your choice (Pro Evo 6, Lost Planet and GOW for instance) You even get 2 controllers!

You can get lesser bundles for anything down to £279.99 all containing everything you need to play HD games.

The PS3 by contrast is £425 with no games or HDMI cable included, no option to buy the 20GB model either.

A PS3 bundle with say Oblivion, COD 3 and Resistance will set you back at least £550 and then we add on another £30 for the controller and another £25-£30 for the HDMI cable.

Thats £610 almost double what the best like for like 360 bundle will cost you in the UK.

Oh and btw, if you know where to look, that same £610 would get you a very nice PC on a widescreen monitor which would comfortably run vista and every other game on the market that you would care to throw at it including Crysis.

In short the PS3 is way overpriced.

They have been doing well against sony and i think they need a price drop to sustain their lead. Not only will a price drop sell more consoles, but it will also force their competitions to do the same thing.

If ms is not careful with how they sell the 360 in every aspect, sony can still own them up. and i think a price cut is a perfect blow.

If you think about it though, what company will SAY they are going to drop the price, if consumers know, they will wait to buy it ;)!

Actually, I think that the 360 doesn't NEED a price drop. For 200 bucks less then an PS3, you can get a premium console with a ton of games and accessories.

But, it still would be nice to see it lose a little on it's price. At very least lose 50 bucks on the 360 Core.

i agree, no price cut is need on the 360, but if sony does drop price (which will signal their failure), then microsoft can respond easily with one also and it will not impact microsoft as much financially as sony.

i think microsoft can (and should) drop core price $50 sell out remaining stock and end the core sku. users really want the added benefits the premium package offers. if else, drop the core and make the premium the new core once (and if, more than likely it will) the new box drops with a bigger drive and hdmi and price the new core (old premium) at $350.

and if microsoft still deems necessary to sell a basic no hd unit, leave the old core at $299 so you have the following:

New box (hdmi / 120gb drive) $399
New core (old premium) $350
Old core $299

or they could just introduce a new box with hdmi, 120gb drive and hd-dvd drive for $499 and end sony's 'we got everything in ours at $599' fiasco. i for one would definitely move my current 360 to my wife and i's bedroom, and purchase the new $499 box for my living room.

In fact, Microsoft is so taken on screwing over its customers that it'll even raise the 360 price to double that of PS3, and all the Xbots will still support it, "because they have a choice," the choice to pay a higher price. Just like the HD-DVD add-on.

where as sony will charge a high price from the start just to save time screwing its fanbase? sony launched at that price cause they knew the lemmings would still buy it with no games available (just like sony said in a comment).
