View Full Version : How do I create longer icon pmfs while keeping the size below 500kb?

I've followed all the guides on this forum and I've managed to create pmfs for icons but I'm having a real problem keeping the filesize below 500kb.
I noticed that the ones that dndmomo made in this thread (http://forums.maxconsole.net/showthread.php?t=43727) are about 25-30 seconds long and also manage to keep the filesize at exactly 500kb. My pmfs on the other hand were only about 15 seconds and the filesize was about 2mb.
I've made many pmfs that I want to share here but they dont work because of the filesize.
Does anyone know how to make pmfs a lot longer like dndmomo did?

Use a lower bitrate when encoding them.

How do I change the bitrate?

It depends on the encoder you are using to make the pmf files but there is generally a bitrate or quality setting somewhere under the save or encoding options.
All video encoding works the same though, smaller bitrate smaller file (and crappier quality).

I know but theres nothing there in the program. I'm using UMD Stream Composer and I couldnt find anything about bitrates during the whole pmf making process.
Dndmomo has managed to make longer pmfs so its definately possible. I just dont know how.
Could someone please help me out? I've been trying for days now. :(

When using UMD SC I might try changing the video encoding settings from 2 pass vbr to 1 pass vbr and changing the audio encode settings to a lower bit rate. This could enable you to halve the mps file size. Further trials may even provide better results. ;)

In UMD Stream Composer, when you select your video file to encode, change the Bitrate in the "Video Enc Settings" menu. There is an option to set the minimum bitrate, and average. I have the minimum set to 100, and the max to 250.
Hope this helps.

Excellent .... My method only works at higher video bitrates. I thought that lowering the bitrate this much would destroy the quality but it works brilliantly.
Thanks for the help CJDJ :D

Thanks a lot, guys. That method works perfectly.
At first I was skeptical because of the lower bitrate. Since the Icon is so small anyway, the lower bitrate doesn't affect it at all. It still looks great. Glad to see my info helped. :D

Yeah, going from 1000 to 100 would normally ruin the quality but I guess the icon is so small anyway, it didnt make much of a difference.
