Upgrade/downgrade/devhook???

Hey Guys, I have just been given psp with 2.5 F/w on (as am laid up in bed after back operation) so have done alot of reading and think i may have confused myself. I am not sure whether i should D/grade to 1.5 via GTA exploit (have friend with unpatched version) or if i should upgrade to 2.71 and use newer devhook. Now the bit which confused me even more is that i found a copy of devhook V0.41b which was described as A psp ISO loader that works on firmware 1.00, 1.50, 2.00 and 2.50. No need for a disc inside the UMD drive, but then after reading more am not sure if that means it emulates 2.5 F/w on a 1.5 or can just run straight on 2.5 and load iso alone from mem duo. i have acquired some iso's and would like to test them out as the umd's i have been given are dull to say the least. So as you can see i am much confused as to which is the best solution ans would be grateful of some clarity.

first thing you need to do is look in the umd drive and see if its a TA-082 (there are lots of threads with pictures so i wont post it again) if it is you need to upgrade to 2.71 or 2.80 and downgrade from there using the downgraders for TA-082 boards if it is not a TA-082 you can use any of the downgraders i have always upgraded to 2.71 then down from there as there is no need for the GTA disc

i have downgraded 14 psp's with no bricks (1 of them my own and 13 of my friends and relatives)

Thanks for lightening response, it is definitely not TA- board i checked that straight away, just wondered if i to stick with the upgrade 2.71 and run iso via devhook on that F/w would be better as would like to keep the WI-FI option although it isn't essential.

i used devhook for 1 week and then changed to Dark_AleX's custom fw and glad i did its so much better as games load from the xmb you dont have to load devhook every time im now on 3.03OE-C and my wifi still works fine
