View Full Version : Do we still love the Wii?
Arstechnica has followed up on their 'after the honeymoon' series and investigated if the Wii is still being loved by the public. The answer is yes and MS and Sony better look out, as the Wii is getting ready to "eat everyone's lunch".
Nintendo did something new, launched at a great price, and put the focus squarely back on fun. They've added more features and more games since we last looked at the system, and the Virtual Console has really taken off. If Sony and Microsoft haven't started taking the Wii seriously as a competitor they need to: the Wii is getting ready to eat everyone's lunch.

Who wouldn't want a next gen console that one could mod and play backups!

Couldn't agree more! Thats why I love my 360.
The Wii is just an overhyped gimmick. (much like the iphone was, and the widescreen ipod is)

Who cares about sales? Strangely, the Wii is becoming my "DS" of consoles - in that while I do go for days, sometimes weeks without playing my xbox 360 or ps2, the Wii gets at least a little bit of attention just about every single day.
It made me smile the first time I played it, and it consistently brings a smile to my face every time I turn in on. I don't CARE if its a "gimmick", as long as its fun and keeps my smiling. Why should you?

Yeah I don't know why so many people are upset over the Wii's success.
It's a blast and it is the most used system in my house (just finished a marathon game of A Link to the Past...now onto Wario).

Give it a day or so before someone at Sony gives their usual "We don't regard the Wii as a threat" comment.

They don't have to. Every time they think about Sony, they look at their sales and think "sweet". Then they look at their bank accounts and just smile.

So who's post here is "fanboyish"? I honestly don't see anything so "I LOVE NINTENDO!!" that it could be misconstrued as a fanboy post. A couple opinions at most.

Technically speaking, there's no such thing as a nintendo fanboy, or at the very most it is a rarity. You see a fanboy would be a person that defends a company/product when they've genuinely done something bad. I can count the bad products nintendo has released on my one finger (virtual boy).
So about the only way you could call someone a nintendo fanboy is if they did something crazy like defend the virtual boy, the VC pricing scheme, or the wifi friend codes. I don't think you are really seeing any of that.
My point is, sometimes people say overly good things about a console or company not because they are a fanboy, but because the company or product is actually that good. 90% of the time this is the case with nintendo. Afterall, how many times have they single-handedly saved the video game industry again? Two? Three?

Nintendo Fanboy! :D
(Sarcastic, of course)
On a side note though, am I the only one who feels this site needs some heavier handed moderation to keep the place friendly instead of the immature, constant complaining about MC being biased towards everything or the flamebaiting of anyone who has a positive attitude towards another system. Well, that, or the ability for these people to pick their console of choice and then they will only receive positive news about that machine and negative news about the others. Hiding anything that might offend them.

ok, this is fanboy, denying the obvious flood in of nintendo fanboys, OOOO THEY DONT EXIST, THEY'RE A RARITY, right, you've defined the meaning of fanboy in your own way, busted out with percentages (no doubt based on solid facts derrrr)(reeks of sarcasm, but only 90%), and you've narrowed down the only times its ok call someone a fanboy, WHAT A NAZI, next time anyone is called a fanboy i'll check with you to make sure it's got your stamp of approval,
fanboy
edit: did that sound a bit overboard?
edit: OH, one more thing "TECHNICALLY SPEAKING" there is such a thing as fanboys, AND DONT USE THE TERM "TECHNICALLY SPEAKING" when you're NOT being technical or even sane/logical for that matter
I don't understand this whole hype for the Wii
The Wii is like an iPod or one of these other hype gadgets.
Nothing, absolutely nothing attracts me to buy it.
It's funny for a couple of hours and also something new, but that's it.
Basically it's nothing more than just a slightly improved GameCube.
In 2007 I don't want to play those GameCube like games, also offline most of the time, just because it has a new controller which also proofed that it isn't the best one for most of the genres
I tried to buy one on the release day here in Germany to sell it on eBay, but they where sold out.
My friend got 2 Wii's and sold one on eBay.
So I was able to play Wii on the release day, and it was the most dissappointing experience I ever had with a brand new console: It felt like a caponized next gen console :D
I missed the "wow - the technologie is amazing" feeling but instead had a "nice toy for kids" feeling.
2 weeks later somebody from the shop called and told me they have Wii's back in stock, if I still want to buy one.
I declined because the prices on eBay went already down, so it was not worth to buy one.
I think a lot of you guys can't understand how I could make this decision :p
I'm neither a Nintendo hater nor a Sony/MS fanboy but the Wii is not my liking.
Where are the good old days? The NES and SuperNES have been the greatest consoles ever in my opinion.
But with the N64 times changed (cartridges, therefore boring textures and expensive games). The GameCube was not bad but it failed because of the lack of software support.

I still play mine all the time, great for having people over, too. Not too many people want to come over for a drink and get into a game of Gears of war or Vegas. It is so simple, takes 30 seconds to get started.

Hate it or love it , just talk about Wii ;) !!
Man i Have all the consoles and still w8 for Ps3 wish i think is going to be a possible bad deal but i will see lat8 in the future.
Anyway.. none of the consoles i already got ( i have them all ) gave me such a great experience playing .. no matter what graphics do like .. And if u are a social guy and u have a lot off ppl to play with .. **** !! THIS IS THE ONE !!
But i agree that the wii control isnt the best for all the games .. so i hope they make a new one or adapt the GC to the games that diserve ;).
I was a sony fan/lover , today i'm a microsoft/nintendo lover and a sony "i don't belive".
Hope in march Sony change my mind.
360 and Wii = Expensive but Priceless !!

Don't get me wrong, I love Nintendo and the Wii (i almost said "my" Wii, but that would have been a bit too Freudian)... but there have been plenty more missteps than just the Virtual Boy.
in no particular order:
- Nintendo 64DD (not a bra, but a zip disk like add on for the N64)
- SNES CD (the should-have-been that became Playstation)
- Virtual Boy (I actually liked it... but it seems to top the lists)
- R.O.B. (Man... this has just become a nod to old fans - see Warioware)
- Mario Party (holy crap did this game screw up palms across the country)
- Mortal Kombat (the start of the whole kiddie crap)
I'm sure there are more, but those are the stand outs.

any company has what in hinesight are mistakes and even though the marketabilty of the VC was bad its still a lot of fun almost every game that made it the the US was fun and the all red 3D I like even though a lot of people did not but sence it cuts off your vision to what is going on around you 100% it has to be played behind closed doors or the people around you will mess with you
