A Wii developer has revealed that third party publishers are cautious about releasing titles on Nintendo platofrms, as they are under the belief that first party titles are highly biased in terms of support.

"Nintendo hardware is traditionally seen as great for first-party titles, but not so much for third-party games," said Dreyer, speaking exclusively to GamesIndustry.biz

"That fact really scares a lot of publishers and frankly we've seen a lot of publishers take that wait-and-see attitude with the Wii," commented Dreyer. "Rightly or wrongly, publishers are more frustrated with that than independent developers are."

okay so let me get this straight.. they're afraid to create titles for the Wii because their game sales will be in direct competition with strong 1st party games?

So put some effort into it and make a decent game!

Third party publishers. Stop with the crap. Stop with the tie-ins. Focus your FULL attention on a Nintendo game and not some shitty port. If you can make games that stand out from the first party line up that AREN'T ports, then people won't associate third party Nintendo games as crap.

Resident evil is a perfect example of a well made 3rd party game that sold well on a nintendo platform.

If 3rd party developers actually made something worth a damn, then maybe it would sell better. I mean do these developers expect a port of a shooter made 5 years ago to sell well on a next gen system. Especially with no addons like online play or anything like that.

Maybe if instead of putting out the 10th version of farcry with sloppy tacked on controls, they actually came up with some new ideas something would sell decent.

look at the DS. third party software sells well on it.

Nintendo puts a lot of work into their first party games.. Thats why they hold up well for so long, and play great.

All the reason for the Wii incoming doom.

I agree, the developers simply don't take any time developing decent games, so it's no wonder that tie-in games to kids movies with a development budget of $5 turn out poorly...

Spend time to develop a decent, innovative, and compelling game, and gamers will flock to it, as simple as that...

well maybe this makes me stupid, but I would be fine with mostly nintendo first party games. having just SSB:B Mario series, zelda series, metroid series and whatever new IPs they come out with completley justifies my 250 dollar purchase. Whatever third party support comes with it is just an added bonus to me.

Seriously, I rather spend $250 to be guaranteed Nintendo's superior first party support then spend 400-600 and get dodgy 3rd party support with a few gems thrown in.

Either way, third party support for wii is pretty strong and with the way the console is selling i only see it getting better.

I agree 100%... The DS and Wii are sure to fail because there isn't one good 3rd party game out on either system. Nintendo hates 3rd party companies and that is why they don't make games for their consoles.

Back to reality... Third party companies don't seem to wary so far. SquareEnix is going crazy with the DS as well as with many other 3rd party companies. The Wii is no different, more and more 3rd party companies are signing on. Shouldn't this topic be about how 3rd party companies are jumping off the PS3 ship? How many exclusives has Sony lost now?

If 3rd parties good like Capcom and Square then good. If they're not good then just buy the system for the way better first party Nintendo games. If the system has enough good games on it then good! That's my opinion.

Also Nimbus, I had written something but it could be condoned as a threat and make me liable to go to prison as I was serious.

well i gotta say nintendo had some good 3rd party dev games on the cube just loking at the ones in my collection i see Lucas Arts, Capcom, who ever made tony hawks, who ever made super monkey ball and theres others i cant think of coz the rest of my games are in my bros room.

but there are some great developers appart from nintendo on the Wii UbiSoft and Activition come to mind and thers others i cant think off too.

but yea the majority of 3rd party developers suck but that goes on any console as well not just nintendo

I don't know anymore what people call 3rd party, if is developers for one exclussive console which does produce for only that one or the ones are produced in exclussive for one console but are not present on others..what people wants?
Intelligent Sys and Retro Studios are not Nintendo owned companies , but they do exclussive games for Nintendo.. so, ..is a mix of People wishing what? Exclussive titels, or Titles published on all consoles?

recently people have been calling studios like retro and HAL, second party.. I am not sure what that really means..

As far as I am concerned if its not owned by nintendo and they are making a game on a nintendo system, its considered third party. Weather or not that developer is exclusive to nintendo hardware should not matter.

Look at silicon Knights.. Once considered a second party developer for nintendo... Now they arent developing anyhting for a nintendo system.

Is what I meant, a game published by Nintendo adn Developed by Nintendo are two different thigns... So, paper mario is a Game produced by Intelligent Systems, adn they DO make great games, be it Nintendo mascots or another.. so what about Square Enix that published Nintendo character mario on Mario 3x3? Are they on a mortal Sin now? I don't think so ( sure I blame them for not include Download play as a msut... ) but 3rd party is far generic term and people is mixing thigns too much.

Why can't you just buy both? Poor or something? Remember who ever dies with the most stuff wins.

ehhh.. MarioKart sold great because the download Play, think different members of a family, one plays Mario3x3 otehr Playas Elite beats...which one is easy to call and form a Party? Is not about being Poor... duh..is baout marketing strategy. If another member experiments the game via download Play , is already a marketing to your product.
