View Full Version : UMD Dumping Inconsistencies...

At the moment, I'm using DAX's UMD Dumper 0.2 beta version to dump my umd's. Then I came across PSP Filer 2.8 and tried dumping the same umd with that instead (because I'd like to keep the programs I use all-in-one ;)).

Then I named them both the same and checked them both with MD5 Fingerprint 1.2 and the MD5 hashes didn't match...why is that if they're both doing the same thing?

So nobody knows?

get USBSSS, start the prog choose the top menu, voila your psp shows up on your pc (using usb) as a iso, start umdgen open the iso and save it to the computer

1) You didn't answer my question, you just came up with a completely different method of doing it with a completely different program.
2) I don't wish to use a computer to dump my UMDs, the whole idea is that the PSP stays portable...in all sense of the word.

But thanks anyway. :(

I would also like to know about inconsistencies in dumps. I've tested the same UMD (NFS-Most Wanted [US]) with 3 different dump utilities.

- New UMD Dumper v0.2.0 by lS[UMD/2kdlSU]
- UMD DAX Dumper Beta 0.2 by Dark_AleX (via gzip to MS)
- USB Special System Storage 1.00 by Booster

All 3 dumps yield different CRC32 values. Is there a utility to calculate CRC32 hashes on the PSP directly from the UMD? With that value in hand I could tell which dumper yields a TRUE backup image. So far, only the DAX dumper's CRC32 matches up with a known release list from www.advanscene.com. I plan on testing the rest of my UMDs against these three utilities to see if the CRC32 result is the same.

It's nice to see someone else is taking an interest in this too. Please share your results with the rest of your UMD's when you're completed. :)
Also, could you compare your tests with DAX Dumper to PSP Filer if possible?

Btw, it looks like I was correct to stick with a DAX Dumper 0.2 so far...

DISCLAIMER: I'm sure that all 3 tools will create usable dumps. I'm just interested in getting TRUE 1:1 dumps of my UMDs.

Ok some findings. Keeping in mind that I only have 10 games I wouldn't exactly call my testing conclusive. Of the 10 games tested, the most reliable dumper seems to be UMD DAX Dumper Beta 0.2 by Dark_AleX. It "correctly" dumped 8 out of 10 games. I've tested both dumping to ms0: and usb:. Both return the same CRC32 hash with the DAX dumper. The 2 games that the DAX dumper "failed" on, USB Special System Storage 1.00 by Booster "correctly" dumped. The other 8 UMDs "correctly" dumped by the DAX dumper, "failed" with the booster dumper. The New UMD Dumper v0.2.0 by lS[UMD/2kdlSU] was VERY inconsistent, mostly yielding different CRC32 hashes from both the DAX and Booster dumpers. One other thing to note about the DAX dumper is the dumps generated were ALWAYS a few Kb larger than the other dumps. I don't know what this means. I would still like to know if there is a home brew tool that will pre calculate a CRC32, MD5, or SHA1 hash directly from the UMD. This would allow for a true 1:1 comparison rather than referring to a possibly inconsistent release list (www.advanscene.com).
