View Full Version : Audio from 'Wii for a Wii' contest which resulted in Death
The following audio was recorded from the radios show which held a stupid contest which encouraged participants to drink as much water as possible in order to win a Wii. The show hosts were laughing and joking about potential death and joked they can not be held responsible.

Personally I don't think all the blame should be put onto the show, you should understand that drinking massive amount of water is not good for you.
She came to one of those forks in the road and chose the wrong fork, she could've had 2 free Timberlake tickets, which she could've scalped and bought 25 Wii's.

They did the same thing I would have done, or anyone else for that matter. I had no clue about the water and if I did I still would have been like oh.... that will not happen or could never happen.
It was a accident and no one is to be blamed.

give me a fucking break, people called and warned them. You have legal responsibility when running a contest like that.

I live in sacramento where 107.9 the end is broadcasted. Their show has been suspended and it seems like they will lose their jobs at the least. I dont listen to these guys, but ths whole thing is just sickening.
On the other side, people are just dumb, and asshole dj's cant be held responsible for the plain stupidity of the public.

These clowns were warned, They should have had EMS on sceen, and had that woman looked at before she left.
They do have some responsibility, they were holding a contest, they have to keep people in the contest safe.
I, like many other people had no idea drinking to much water could kill you.
I dont hold a grudge for the jokes they are a raido talk show thats what they do best, but not sending her straight to the hospital after she said she had a headach is, Horrifying!
The guy incharge of these unfortunate band of idiots, should be smacked, fired, and never allowed to work in radio again.
What a bunch of retards, WOW!

Agreed. It's not the radio show's fault that she was going to be retarded.
I bet she even signed a contract.

No. Comments like that are retarded.
Personally, I already knew of water intoxication, but that is not something I would expect the general populous to know anything about. Furthermore, you, me, the radio DJs, and especially the contestants are not medical experts. This DJ made specific assumptions that "your body will throw up" if you have too much water and "you should be able to take in as much as you want". Further, when she made them aware that she was feeling light-headed and had a headache, they reassured her safety by inventing some theory that it is "just her body wanting to throw up". The fact that they would continue misguiding this lady in spite of being warned and seeing clear signs of danger is appalling.
A waiver does not simply release the radio station from all responsibility allowing them to do whatever they please to contestants. This lady clearly needed immediate medical treatment and the entire radio staff ignored any threat. To suggest that anyone (radio show or otherwise) should be allowed to put the public in clear, life-threatening danger is ludicrous. Any remotely dangerous competition or event should have on-site medial staff and experts to keep things under control. If they actually had an expert there, this never would have happened.
You people are idiots to even suggest this is the contestant's own fault.

If someone told you to jump off a cliff, would you do it? It's her fault that she believed him. I don't give a **** who's a medical expert or not, she could have just left.
