Is it possible to convert MKV files to play on psp. I have some HD tv episodes I want to watch and can't work out how to convert them. Know the quality won't be HD but thats what they are recorded in. If this has come up before will someone point me to the right thread as I can't find anything.

Thanks

dude isn't that method like, dated? says 2005. i mean does that method support the new 480x272 size, and is that encoding method using level3?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/H.264#Levels

anyway why not try xvid4psp. i think that works with mkv. i haven't tried yet coz i use a combined codec pack and xvid4psp has issues with that...

for ease of use, i suggest the xvid4psp, nice gui. manual encoding seems to offer better quality...i think.

if only one of em would work fer me already...

Thanks psp_sfdm, did find that tutorial but seemed a bit long winded and was wondering if there was an easier way. Will try xvid4psp but also have the combined codec pack installed.

I might be doing Thread Necromancy but.... I'm having a big problem. The guide that was linked from the earlier posts.

http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/244015

I'm having a hell of a set back. I can't do the audio thing. It's really frustrating now:mad:.

Anyway... Let me quote the part I have a problem with.

"...audio conversion (part 3 of conversion)
11. open up Ashampoo MP3 AudioCenter.
Choose convert files
Click the add button....add the jpn audio you just demuxed from MKVextractGUI....click next
Tick the wav box....click next
Tick keep quality...click next
Tick nomalize volume...click next
Tick in a folder somewhere on my computer..the browse to where you want to save it......click next.
Click start..this only takes a couple of minutes.
12. close down Ashampoo MP3 AudioCenter. "

The audio I got was an AC3. I tried another way which was applying the extracted subtitles and apply them to the video converter program(pspvc). Yet.. The subs never popped out and the audio was out of sync with the vid. It's not psp because. I tried viewing the converted file on my PC and the audio was still out of sync.

I really need help... Thanks..

PSP Video Converter

http://pspvc.nswardh.com/

That will do MKV I have done it with my anime collection.

I would uninstall all your codec packs and install CCCP (Combined Community Codec Pack). The program requires that pack and things tend to not be very stable if you have more then one codec pack installed or it may not work at all.

If you have any problems I will try and help.

I have used all of those programs above and they are all trash compared to PSPVC.

Use xvid4psp, has all the profiles you'll need already setup. Real easy to use.
I use it to convert all my HD TV eps.

sorry but what's Mkv format ?

It's a really stupid way to store videos. Technically it's not a format or codec.

It's like a Zip file with a real video file in it. Why not just use a real video file?

TV Shows can be good quality at only 50 MB, but the file is unplayable so it's redundant...

I think you should have try to use Aimersoft MKV converter, which is professional and powerful, also can act as MKV to MP4 Converter and MKV to AVI Converter, etc, you can easily convert convert MKV to all various proper formats playable on iPod, iPhone, Zune, PSP and other MP4 Players etc.

For me MediaCoder works very well. It is free. It has PSP plugin shipped with it. It also lets you do a lot of custom stuff if you feel adventurous (like rendering subtitle stream from MKV into mp4 which I use very often for japanese anime). I use it almost exclusively. If it fails for any reason (not often) then I convert mkv into avi with latest alltoavi (also free) and then convert that avi into mp4 using media coder.
