ms28 still ! going mad with via 6421

First of all , sorry for this post , i know that there are allready many many threads about the ms28 drive.... but i've read every single post i could find and still have major problems reading/writing this drive.
I bought a pci sata card with VIA 6421L chipset on ebay especially for this drive. still i'm stuck .
I used extreme bootmaker to make a floppy , i took some screenshots .
I think i did choose the right options..?
if i boot from the floppy , i type samread 1234567 12345 , then i get to choose the source , BUT the VIA is no option , i only get something like ide master and slave ...????:confused:

you dont have any ide leads connected to the motherboard when you flash a samsung fw=ms28.there is a search function at the top on the right.use it,type ms28 and select the xbox360 hacking forum to search in and you will get a load of returns for previous posts.

anyone else got a suggestion that i can try ?

its like the card isnt being picked up by mtkflash,if your unsure about the mtkflash that was produced by xtreme bootmaker then one of the posts will have an edited mtkflash for vt6421 and try one of them.

some people have probs with vt6421 cards.why i aint got a clue.try removing the card,and reinserting it,either in the same pci slot or another one,in one of the posts someone had a similar prob(if i'm not mistaken)and they basicly did this and it came up like a fluke.

what maufacturers card do you have?

i only pointed you to the search function because i understand that most if not all of the answers you will get are already posted so it saves waiting for answers.this is why i'm pointing at other probs that dont seem to be covered a lot in any previous threads.

your card is picked up by xtreme bootmaker but,it isnt detected by mtkflash!

try mtkflash method.so format a floppy in the floppy drive,set it to first boot device.put vt6421 mtkflash and mtkflash.typ on the floppy.

pull all the ide leads from the motherboard.

dont turn on the 360 till you get to dos and then type:
mtkflash r /m orig.bin and then you get the options.turn the 360 off and type the corresponding number for the flash,count to 10,if that dosnt work try 12 or 15.

and then turn on the 360 again.

this is just to see if you can extract from the drive,then you will have to patch the key from the orig.bin to the xtreme firmware but,first lets see if you can try anoither method that might resolve the problem for you.

ok , i'm gonna try with a posted mtkflash , because it's indeed like you say , it's just like mtkflash does not pick up my card when i boot from the flop :mad:
i did try it on 2 different pc's , in different pci slots , all same result.
although the pci card does work in windows .... very very strange stuff
so let's hope for the edited mtkflash posted somewhere on the forum :)

could be that you got onboard sata as well as a card,so if you could get a modified mtkflash for the onboard as well as the vt6421 card then p[erhaps that might do the job.

all i got is vt6421 card in this tower,the motherboard didnt have any onboard.i got one tower with intel ich5(thats just a partial build though)

ok , so i tried like 5 different mtkflash versions all for via 6421 , on 3 different pc's (2 without sata onboard) and i still get no drive detected :( insane ...
i think i'm going to give up , it's 3 weeks now , hours and hours it just won't work ... i don't know what to try anymore :confused:

ok i got one step further , i connected a cdrom (ide) to the ide port on the sata pci 6421 card, now it shows 1 drive scanned on the via 6421 , it says sec slave .... port : d400 master/slave : b0
using mtkflash r /m /sata orig.bin
but it does not start reading

make sure you connect the sata cable to the sata connector at the far end of the pci card. then connect a normal ide cdrom drive to your motherboard.

it always shows up for me that way, and when you have to flash a ms28 drive, first you boot pc with 360 already turned on, then type the samread command and you will get 2 choices: ide sec master and vt6421 pri master, now turn off your 360 and turn it back on and wait 10 seconds before pressing 2 on your pc keyboard. now it will work fine.

ms28's are a bit tricky. I have followed this on three now. Worked every time.

could it have something to do , that i'm using the xecuter "tool" to give the ms28 drive power ? (led is green , so it's not in mode B) .
I have used this for an ms25 without problems.
i just use it now because it's easier to pull the molex connector from my pc's power supply then using the xbox360 itself to power the drive

hey guys , i just flashed the bastard :)
i used a friend's pc with onboard via sata , went fine using the 10 sec trick.
i also tried the pci card (6421 chipset) did not work ; no drive detected... so my best guess is that is a fubar pci card.
i want to thank you all for the great input and help.

Guys and saleem my 6421a it use 2 pickup as a via 6421raid controla it nw piksup as a via masta ide controla hav i done anythin or wot can i do to 2 fix it

check the card is enabled and functioning properly in my computer/manage/device manager/scsi raid controllers.

ensure tht you got all th drivers it needs installed.

dont have anything connected to the vt6421 card.all you want on it when you do the flash is the drive and it should be connected to master port.

it should show up in dos as:
vt6421 primary master.

so if you are doing an ms25 you should have options:
ide primary master 1.
ide primary slave 2.
vt6421 primary master 3.

if you are doing ms28 then all the ide leads should be pulled from the motherboard,assuming you got the correct mtkflash you should only get one option,you turn the 360 on when dos has booted in,then if you use 360sam you type:
samread 1234567 12345 hit enter and you should just have the vt6421 option there,nothing else.

you turn off the 360,type the number for the vt6421 option,count to 10/12 and then turn the 360 on again.

i can successfully read and back up my orig.bin
question in the rar files tht u copy from xtreme5.rar to floppy wher do i put the xtreme52a in there are 2 foldas 1 4 backup and samsung wot goes in the samsung folda ,.

also when i type samhack xxxxxx says it cant find the hackd.bin

if that xtreme.50.rar was the xtreme firmware you should have put that in the samsung folder and renamed it to xtreme32.

then you should have ran:
samread 1234567 12345 and when you sucessfully did the extraction you would have had an hack.bin,so you could have flashed it over with the samhack command.

heres an easier way to modify xtreme firmware with 360sam in dos.

do this:

put x360sam.exe in a folder with your orig.bin and xtreme firmware renamed to xtreme32.name the folder 360sam and put it in my documents.

in windows do this:
go start/run/type in CMD and click okay.

in windows dos type:
cd my documents and hit enter.
cd 360sam and hit enter.
x360sam and hit enter

360sam will pop up:

x360sam.exe orig.bin xtreme32.bin hacked.bin and hit enter.

360sam runs:

now check the 360sam folder in my documents and you will now find an hacked.bin(modified xtreme firmware):

just to be sure evrything isd fine,check the orig.bin and the hacked.bin by opening them with maximus 360 firmware toolbox v3 to check the keys match:

note that the keys are identical in both the orig.bin and the modified xtreme firmware!

put this hacked.bin on your floppy/pendrive with mtkflash(for your sata type)and mtkflash.typ and flash the drive with the command:
mtkflash w /m hacked.bin
