View Full Version : AVC MP4 creation on 3.03OE-B discussion
Hi!
Because D.A. just has release 303OE-B with AVC full video playback (BIG THANKS for that!), I want to start a discussion thread on how to create AVC MP4 videos the best way.
I've done a lot conversions of DVDs into PMP AVC format already, using AVI2PMP, which in my opinion is the best and fastest Encoder (using Mencoder).
So for the start, because I'm not familiar with the MP4 container, I want to ask how to convert existing AVC PMPs into MP4 container movies that are playable on the new 303OE-B firmware.
The first step I know is to demux the PMPs into an AVI and a MP3 file.
The AVI now already contains the h264 AVC encoded movie in the best possible quality and full 480x272 resolution (because it was encoded that way with AVI2PMP).
There would be no need to re-encode the video anymore. The final step is to mux the avi and mp3 into a mp4 container. But with what tools / software?
Any ideas welcome.
Please also feel free to discuss other encoding solution here.

Good idea, is waiting for a guide (possibly simple).;)

I'm not entirely sure on the following, but I'm gonna say it anyways.
Firstly, I think the XMB player only supports level 2 AVC whereas PMP-Mod AVC supports level 3, meaning that you'll probably have to reconvert anyway - well at least the audio would need converting. I don't think the PSP supports MP3 audio streams in videos (only AAC/AAC+/AAC+ v2)
Secondly, AVI can't actually hold native H.264 video streams (again, not too certain), so I'm not sure whether the demuxed PMP-AVC really gives a true AVI video or not.
As for muxing, you can just use MP4Box to do the job. And I think you need to apply an ATOMChange over the top as well, however I haven't bothered converting videos for the PSP's video player, so I'm not sure of this process. (still a fan of PMP-Mod AVC, despite full screen AVC video in the XMB).

Theres sometheng not going well !
A try tonight to recode existing PMP-video onto standart AVC.
1) I demux PMP to audio.MP3 & video.264 with Media Player Classic.
2) decode MP3 into WAV with lame
3) change Sampling Rate from 44100 to 48000 with GoldWave
4) encode audio into AAC with neroAacEnc.exe LH profile VBR ~128 kb\s
5) mux into MP4 with MP4Box.exe (in command line or with YAMB)
6) adapte my MP4 to PSP with ATOMChanger.exe
After that, my file not play from VIDEO directory with every name at all (shows corrupted data), and not playin from old video directory too with old name format, like MAQxxxxx.MP4 (shows all right, but not play).
What's wront with it ?
Maybe someone have a playable MP4 with 480x272 video & AAC audio to be convinced, that this face works ?

Hmm, not sure. Try using CBR instead of VBR/ABR.
Also you may need to reconvert the 264 stream as PMP-Mod AVC supports level 3 AVC whereas the XMB player only supports level 2.1

Got my first mp4 file for XMB - 512kb video on full res and 48khz 128kb audio
The quality is amazing for that low bitrate. My pmpavc files are on much much higher bitrates and donŽt look so much better. So IŽll recode them all *sigh* since the files are about three times smaller, which is really a lot.
Anybody knows any details on the differences?

Not true, I have successfully got level 3 to work on the XMB player:)
