Referred to the PsP v3.03 OE-A FirmWare Topic from Dark Alex on the forum, the new popstation that comes with it have a compress function, be sure to READ the README.txt file . Plz read it like 100 times then a secret hidden word will appears. that says READ ME again if you do not understand ^^ :D

People said that they got 400 mb psx game to 35 mb ? How is that even possible O_Othis compression just like a winzip.. sometimes compressed game can reach 80% / 60% / 50% /30% or even only 5% smaller :) and its not because possible or not... for example Vagrant Story from 700mb become 100mb

Some games it might be possible... I think the videos compress mostly in these games, but not the music... Also, they might have ripped it, ya know, remove the music, movies, etc.... I don't see what the problem is... I can fit 5 PSX games on my 2 gb card... and that is considering they were originally 700mb each, compressed to 300mb-400mb...

Interesting... I only saved about 200 or so Mb on FF7 disc 1...

S every game is going to compress differently? nice.. It sucks that I have to redo all of them..

Yea, my FF9 disc is down to 417mb- thats with an icon0, icon1, snd0, pic0, and pic1.... Saved close to 300mb, a little under.... And Silent Hill is down from 587mb to 331mb... Roughly 200-300mb saved per compression...

Use PSXLDR+PSMplay and a blank .STR file to remove the movies, then compress. Saves a lot of space.

I have 5 PSX games on my 2gb.... 4gb is overkill, unless you plan to load all of final fantasy 7, 8, and 9 at once onto the card... lol

Btw I have noticed that using compression lvl 9 does not lag the game whatsoever...did a lvl 9 compression on mortal kombat 4 and got it down to 300+ from 600+ with no lag

I'm getting a 4GB because I also want other things on my PSP other than PSX games. Never can have enough space. :)

4GB wouldn't be enough for FFVII VIII and IX, even compresed.

2GB was fine for me... until MPO came out and ate almost half.

The new one... If you need a tutorial, run the program without any arguments and it tells you the correct syntax.

Here try this.

I've noticed that too... (some games become smaller than others) and this is how to make them smaller! Heres how to do it:

1. Take a bin/image/iso and open it in PocketISO.

2. Select Analyse ISO. A progress bar will be shown at the bottom. If under the "Medias Found: " there are no tracks, it check FF8 Search method and click Analyse ISO again. If there is still nothing under "Medias Found: ", then it can't be compressed using Pocket ISO...

3. Then either click ALL, (to remove all vids/music) VID (removes vid) or MUS (removes music).

4. Set "Compression Method" to "maximum", then clicks "Process ISO". If it says something about "only music selected... set to normal" press ok and continue.

5. Open the compressed file in PocketISO and press "Uncompress ISO". It will over-rite the original iso. (I would copy it and change the name)

6. The extracted file should be near (or the same size) as the original.

7. Run the new bin/image/iso in PSX2PSP and set the compression to 9 (or whatever you want it at). The resulted file will shrink!

I got Spyro 2 to 152 megs and the original was ~600.

I can confirm this works.

Spyro 3: Orignal ISO: 634 MB
Run through PSX2PSP at Level 9 Compression: 424 MB
Run through PSX2PSP after PocketISO editing and Level 9 Compression: 160 MB

Does the new one work? (I'll test, give me a sec)
Yes it does! (but no sound or vid depending on what you choose)

Download PocketISO 2.1 from Here: http://www.pdai.org/forum/showthread.php?t=8974 << that is the official Pocket ISO forum, and you dont need to register to download the files.

I just got Tekken 3 down to 34 Mb from 604!

I can't believe it. Too bad my copy freezes whenever it gets to the ending.... I wonder if there's a working version with the music ripped somewhere

Is your Tekken 3 w/mini game ripped. It seem to impossible to get that small. Even WinACE can't do that.

I don't think anything is ripped. I was actually talking about that newfangled compression algorithm that's been going around lately... LOVE it

Only thing is that the movies don't work. nor does the sound... Is there a FULLY working version out there somewhere???

If you d/l your Tekken 3 from pspiso, then it's mini game ripped version. No movie or music. I made my own Eboot Tekken3 from a original CD game. All movie and music work find.

Movies don't work? Sounds like they've been ripped out. Sound is too.

Okay because I usually get only a 200mb difference and some people are getting a 300-400 mb difference. Even wtihout anything ripped out. DOes poptation compressing work better than a gui?

psychospacefish

It completely depends on the game. XA audio and FMV's don't compress much, because they're already compressed. So if a game has a lot of them (Fear Effect for example), then it won't compress much at all, but if there aren't any at all/hardly any (Vagrant Story) it'll compress a lot. Also some people are downloading ripped copies off the internet, so they'll compress a lot more than the original ISO.
