If you're a happy viper, PSO or AR GCoS 1.4 user share your thought's. The reaon I created this thread to see how many people are really happy.

So if you have a negative comment about viper, PSO, AR and GCoS this is not the place for you to post. If you would like you can create your own thread if you are not a satisfied customer but I just want this to be a positive thread.

When Viper was released a while back I decided to buy first genaration even if I knew that everything was not going to be perfect.
After all we only have less then a year before Gamecube is obsolete.

When I modded my cube I was really trilled of the fact that someone finally broke the security in the Nintendo hardware and I was very moved and emotional it felt good that I can now say I have all my systems modded but then came those really annoying DRE's I thought to my self what a shity chip this is.

Its not a secret that they made the viper to make money and that they conned us all when a chip was not really neccesary, but hey I have no buyer's remorse.

I have not yet used GCos with PSO and Im sure its a nice cheap alternative but because I really would hate going through all of that just to play a game this is why
Im still using my reborn viper with GCoS.

Now GCoS is such a great bios made by such and incredible and dedicated team of indivisuals that as versions went by all my problems where less and slowly started to go away.

One thing that I learned about modding gamecubes is that you should never ever ever ever ever... tweak your drive because this is the main cause of DRE's in my opinion. The first drive that I had was a version 6 motherboard 2 default ohms was set to 370 and at this setting it would not read anything even the best ritek dye's.
So I said to my self I will tweak it so I did and made it 180 ohms at this setting every media was now readable even cheap media but I had serious issues with Dre's they where happening so often that I said to my self if cobra does not fix this I would set my cube and viper chip on fire and make a video and post it all over the internet so people would know that viper was bad.

When GCoS 1.1 came out with a vgc bios I said to myself this team really wants to help us viper users and they did because I started noticing that games started to last longer then usual before they DRE and I also noticed that Super Monkey ball 2 now booted in GCoS.

Ever since then I had tons of faith in this team and I know that they are moving forward to provide better functions in the OS.

I also wan't to say I swapped my other gamecubes drive wich is a 4 and it boots only ritek G04 and was never tweaked and from now on I can say I have 0 DRE's with the combination of Viper, GCoS, drive 4 non tweaked and great Ritek G04 mini media.

This is and honest story and none of this was made up i Swear.

Please post your success story's with either
PSO, Viper or AR I want to know what drive you are using and mainly if its tweaked so this can help others fine our luck.

Must say I'm very happy with GCOS 1.4 started through PSO/BBA. Tried it today on my unmodded cube (not even laser tweak) and Paper Mario: TTYD on traxdata mini-dvd-r booted on the first try! It always gives a DRE at the same spot in-game though, but from reading other posts I believe this can be fixed by running it through fstfix (can't burn another copy right now though, as I don't have a DVD burner myself...). Tried using a couple other discs for swapping (MK: DD and Z:WW) but had the same result, so it shouldn't be a swap-disc issue...

Tried a couple of other games and they work perfectly, no problems at all during the (short) time I tested!

Being able to boot backups on a totally unmodded cube is f****n awesome.

edit: traxdata mini-dvd-r == ritek G04

I'm fairly happy. It's very impressive for how new it is, and I'm sure support will just get better and better. I get the occasional DRE in starfox and the same spot always in Metroid Prime 2, but other than that I'm very impressed.

Tried with fixed Paper Mario today, no problems at all! Also tried 6 other games, not a single DRE in any of them, even though I played for several hours straight!

I'm wondering, is everyone having problems with random DRE's? That's the feeling I get from reading threads here, but as I said, I have no problems at all (except for the one previously mentioned which was easily fixed).

I was verry excited when the ViperGC came out. Since the GameCube is my first console since the SNES, I wasn't aware what was going on in mod-land (xbox, ps2 etc). Because of this 'not-knowing' I was verry pleased that booting backups was possible, and by the time I booted my first backup I was happy like a little kid inside a candy store.

But after some serious gaming the DRE's showed up. After a while most of my backups didn't work anymore, and I was sort of pissed. I've tried every combination of media but no succes.

That's where GCOS came in. I flashed it on my ViperGC, and wh0ah what the hell, my games worked again. I played Mario Power Tennis for 5 hours straight without a single DRE. I was happy again. Unfortunatlly not all games were DRE free, but I could live with that

Now that I've managed to get some mini dvd-rs (couldn't find the RITEK04, since most dutch shops were sold out), I haven't got a single DRE (played all day today, 4 different games).

Conclusion: It sucks that so many people have problems with the ViperGC, but I'm glad the thing finally works like a charm for me!
