Right, I have a xb 360, with a H943A ms28 drive, June 2006.

I have bought a ALI M5283 sata pci card. I have read that this does work. This installs a seems to function fine.

I have made a bootable USB drive with xtreme boot maker, checking all the box's for ms28 and bokes patch.

I shutdown my PC and remove all sata cables inside my pc.

Boot up the usb drive and get the a:\ prompt.

I type samread xxxxxxx yyyyy (replace these with the serial of my xb360)

The xb is switched on and connected via sata.

At this point I swich my xb off and select device 1. I get this:

port:9c00, master/slave:a0

I wait 10 seconds and switch it back on.

Nothing happends? Where am I going wrong? Do I have to do the soldering method? Is it nessesary to solder? can i use a paperclip?

and try and wait 12 to 15 seconds ok

so it doesnt matter what you type after samread? I thought this was supposed to be the serial no of the console?

he can try and try again till the cows come home and he still wont get it to read or write.

ali is only good for samsung fw=ms25 and hitachi drives.you must have via chipset for fw=ms28.so no the card you got is no good for this drive.

you need to buy vt6421 pci sata card.

You see this is where I am puzzled. Apparently this is the card that I have bought:

in your first post you put you remove all the sata cables,you dont have any sata cables in and also you remove all the ide leads from the mobo as well.

you want to boot to dos first before you turn on the ms28(make sure it is on the master port on the card)

so when you get to dos turn on the 360 with the drive connected by sata cable to the card.then type:
samread 1234567 12345 and hit enter.

when you get your option for sata,turn of the 360.type the option,then count to 10 you might have to count to 12 or 15 as well.then turn on the 360 again and it should pick up the drive.

from the link you provided i see that there is a sata card with via chip on it so i assume thats the one you got.you can double check by actualy looking at the card and the chip onboard as well.it will just have big white VIA on it.

assuming that you got everything you need on your bootable device with correct mtkflash and a mtkflash.typ you shouldnt be having probs.

The only Sata card we sold pre-14 February was with the Ali chipset and unfortunately we had it down as via chipset, purely by human error

But now we have both the Ali (cheaper) and Via (xbox) Sata cards in stock :)
