THANK YOU KINGSQUITTER!

Easily the best application I have seen for PSone conversion with v .6 now that you have fixed my only complaint (ms led flash). Thanks again for all your hard work the past week and great updates nightly to make this as convenient as possible for everyone.

Hope you have a happy new year!

@kingSquitter..

There is a problem with the pal -> Ntsc .. I have a Final Fantasy VII PAL game (Game ID SCES00876).. It said there were no strings to change or something like that..

I understand that you use the hex editting method..
I dont know what way your program checks for the strings.. but I would like to direct you to post by "mrdude" where he said..

Look for the hex string:

1300912410009124 (orig)
Replace with this.
0000912400009124

sometimes games have
1300902410009024 as (original)
replace with this
0000902400009024

I guess my question is.. does the gui check both kinds of strings??.. cause if not, that might be the problem I'm facing with Final fantasy VII..

I had to convert it using zapper and stuff.. =P

I had the same trouble with GT2, but even zapper couldnt find the strings in my gt2 eu rips...

searching for those strings in hex edit wasnt fruitfull either... are there more EU codes?

i "obtained" a copy of Tekken 3 but it was in .nrg format so i converted it to .iso format using MagicISO but when i try to convert the .iso file with popstation i get error messages such as : "popstation.exe not found in folder "Files" and "Invalid filename" but popstation is inside the files folder.

im using v.6 and the files i have inside the files folder are:
back.png
gameinfo.txt
no_icon0.png
icon_back.png
BASE.PBP (formerly eboot.pbp of hotshots2)
KEYS.bin
PSX2PSP.exe

I tried converting with these files in files folder and got the same error messages.

I added cygwin1.dll to the folder and the same error messages occurred.

dunno if you solved your problem already but you actually need popstation.exe in the files folder (i don't see it in your list), and PSX2PSP.exe should NOT be in the file folder... anyone can correct me if i'm wrong though.

when i converted the .nrg tekken 3 file to .iso, the file size dropped from 656mb to 575mb

any help plz?

as far as converting .nrg, not sure if PSX2PSP handles that file type, but my suggestion so as not to get the reduction in iso size is to convert the .nrg to a .pbp using popstation.exe through the command prompt, then just edit the resulting eboot through PSX2PSP.

Very nice! This Gui is getting better and better. Maybe you can add this "fix" TheShadowRunner mentioned in his clean popstation thread:

Thanks again for this awesome tool, KingSquitter!

Here's a suggestion, though: You might want to have ISO/PBP file selection above ICON0.PNG, PIC1.PNG, PIC0.PNG etc. in the GUI window because if you fill in those prior to selecting the ISO, it'll erase the fields and you need to select your image files again.

Just a minor thing, really.

This is a great utility. now I can convert my PSX collection to PSP format, and play them on my PSP.

I made one conversion, and I saw that no folder with the game name was created. I guess this is not a feature (yet), but it would be nice to implement it in a future release. I guess most people use game names as folder names instead of the game ID's, so games can easily be identified.

Keep up the good work.

That shouldn't be too hard to do... have the program create a folder from the Title field instead of the ID field... but thanks for the great work you've done!

what about savegames on multi disc games? do you have to enter the game id of the first disc like in clean popstation or does this just do it automatically?

so just edit the game id to that of the first disc before clicking convert?

its not a big deal, but that should be in the readme so people who get the program but dont read the forums know what to do. I'm gonna be compiling all the filed needed to upgrade to 2.71/hend, downgrade to to 1.50, upgrade to 3.02 OE-A and OE-B and the popstation GUI and burning it to CDs to distribute to my friends who own PSPs.

You're confused indeed.

Some games do access the MS a lot regardless of the GUI used.

The initial problem was that PSX2PSP created extra blinking (where Popstation alone didn't) on certain games.

This has now been fixed.
But certain games still access the MS a lot, nothing even remotely strange about that.

read the readme.txt

Place popsation.exe, base.pbp and keys.ini in files folder.

Files that should be in files folder:
-------------------------------------
back.png
base.pbp
gameInfo.txt
icon_back.png
KEYS.BIN
no_icon0.png
popsation.exe

Files that should NOT be in files folder:
-----------------------------------------
icon0.png
pic0.png
pic1.png

---

You can get the program to auto pick the pictures.
To do so, rename ex icon0.png to yyyyxxxxx.png and place in \pics\icon0\ (yyyyxxxxx=Game id)

Hi KingSquitter

First off Damn good little program!

Now I don't even know if this has been asked to many posts to read through.

Is it possible to add some default configuration that is set by the user like ISO Folder so when i click on it it don't go to the desk top it goes to where i told the program where my ISO's are. This browsing is driving me crazy. LOL

And when you click on the icon0.pbg button it automaticly opens that folder instead of the last folder you were in. Same with the rest of the buttons. Would sure be nice if when i clicked on a button it knew right where to go.

Anyways Thanks for the Current Program and keep up the good work

KingSquitter I don't know if you have been reading the CLEAN POPStation thread but her is a quote from TheShadowRunner that you might want to look into.

There is still a 1 BYTE (only!) difference between builds made by CLEAN Pop & PSX2PSP GUI.

If KingSquitter fixes this only remaining flaw (in the HEADER, offset 192), the CLEAN project will be dropped.

TheShadowRunner
12-31-2006, 07:27 PM
Yeah drag, we talked about it in pm.
I have yet to retest with 6.2 though.
Test will be as follow:
generate with popstation under DOS + hexedit.
versus Clean Popstation
versus PSX2PSP

King told me that the byte in question is related to the length of the game title, if i use the same on all 3 tests, MD5 should match.
I'll be sure to let you guys know on both threads.

Oh and.. Happy New Year ;)

only some people noticed that hex byte is the "game name" long (always the number of character in the name +1)

example:
if you give the name "PSX Emulator" the byte was 0D (in decimal 13 [12+1])
if you give the name "Grandia" the byte was 08 (in decimal 8 [7+1])
and so on

TheShadowRunner

Yeah that's right n0rd.
And this is to ensure that the SFO looks correct.
It's actually an enhancement over the original Popstation.exe, superb work King!

So the final word on this: (at last!)

- KingSquitter's PSX2PSP GUI is absolutely correct in all it does as of now. (v 6.2)
- It's actually even better than Popstation.exe in that it corrects the SFO by computing the game title length while Popstation always assumes 18 characters regardless of the title you input (this is wrong but harmless, and based on the original "Hot Shots Golf (c)" title hence why 18.
- The only byte difference between PSX2PSP GUI & CLEAN PopStation that remained is this very microbug that the original Popstation has (and so CLEAN reproduced it).
- CLEAN PopStation project is therefore immediately discontinued.

Amazing work King, thank you very much!

if you hexedit the base, you can replace the image at the offset mentionned above and any subsequent PBP you build will use that image instead. ;)

Thank You for your excellent work KingSquitter , it's greatly appreciated.

Just a quick ask and I can understand a quick NO as you've honestly given enough already.
Is there any chance of adding drag n drop so I can open supported files with your program via sendto or cmdline or reg hack (Edit With) or drop n drag? Currently I'm using a rough bit of script to do it for me.
example of what I mean attached.
I've called it PSX2PSP Dropbox (p2pd.exe)
Only works with your program v0.6.2

Small bug on 6.2:
If you set the icon0, pic1 & pic0 first, then open the ISO, you need to re-input icon0, pic1 & pic0 again.

There's a program that does this off of a chinese message board. It's actually very similar to PSX2PSP but it uses a tabbed interface.

The original warning is located offset 1376336-1387824
if you hexedit the base, you can replace the image at the offset mentionned above and any subsequent PBP you build will use that image instead.

I can confirm this works, and here's the image I used. The hexeditor will complain that the filesize is different, 'cause the png file is a hair smaller in size, but I used it to build Street Fighter EX+ 2 and it worked great. I found as long as it's under 11.2k and a png24 format, it will work. Larger and it displays garbage, but then loads the game fine.

The chinese PSX2PSP gui is cool, too bad it's in chinese which can get annoying sometimes since you don't know the language and you'll always have to look up that picutre the guy at psp-hacks made for the translation, unless you memorize everything. Download the Chinese program:

Just take his BASE.PBP and place it in the PSX2PSP "files" folder replacing your current BASE.PBP. Then build with PSX2PSP as usual.

There is a problem with the application.

The iso header offset currently MUST BE 0x50000, since one of the functions of popcorn that replaces a popsman function (to allow decrpted headers) will search the postheader at 0x50400, where are data needed by pops.prx.

I've seen than the appplication does not always generate the data there, and this could cause the generated pbp not to work properly.
In fact, this was one of the reasons of popstation to not allow big images.

Anyways this will be fixed in popcorn.prx of 3.03 OE-A by searching the iso offset in the pbp header, but currently in 3.02OE-B, isos whose header are not at 0x50000 cannot be guaranteed to work.
In fact they could work depending of the luck of the values of the data that are at offset 0x50400+.

No need to change nothing in the app anyways, since i may start working in 3.03 OE tomorrow, and it should be ready next day.

On FF7 and FF9 when it gets to a point where you have to swap discs Do you have to:

a. Do nothing because the proper ID #'s have been assigned by the database and needn't be altered in any way

b. Alter the ID # and Gamesave name for disc 2, 3, and or 4 to be the exact same as whatever it is for disc 1

c. use some sort of extra app that does some kind of magic trick.

I'd really like to know, thanks in advance!

Not all we/you/hackers have to do is come up with a way to find where the Manual lies. Then it would be perfect. I'm sure Sony would want the Eboots for themselves. LOL.

Using cwcheats for pops is just realy a bypass for now, it will be much better when we can do it from within the emulator since its already built into it for changing disks.

Yes, except if the images are too big, or audio/videos are inserted in the file. and there is no room in those few 320 KB of 0-50000.

disc 1-4 have to have the same ID and you get a prompt to save before discswap. save, then when it asks u to discswap, shut the game down, boot the other eboot, load the savegame and voila. This works with final fantasys but not with eg. chrono cross as u dont get a prompt there

This app is great! I Was really annoyed (and still is) when the PSP "scene" released PSX game which was converted to EBOOT from ISO. But this magic app can convert EBOOT back to its regular form, and thats great :DThanks for this super application, hopefully this will continue to be updated.

Since there is a PAL to NTSC feature in the 0.6 program, would it be possible to also get a screen positioning feature also?

Wont this app fix the screen position already? I tried to convert Syndicate Wars (PAL) to NTSC, and it worked fine, and the screen was also in right place (which was really strange ofcourse).

Works great under Linux, but you will need the gdiplus.dll to start it. Just download the library and put it into the same folder.

Hi m8, in your next version can you add the option to strip out png files:

You just need to search the eboot files for this:

89504e470d0a1a0a - start of png
49454e44ae426082 - end of png

obviously because there are a few png's in the eboot - these hex values will appear more than once....would that be too difficult?

That would be a nice feature. Thanks.

erm.. another suggestion..for less intelligent ppl like myself...if u wasnt the 1 who rippd the psx game and are unsure if its a pal or ntsc is there a way you could determine that?

that wud b very helpful as if its already an ntsc version and i chek d box pal 2 ntsc wud it mash up?

i found a small "glitch" with the auto-cration of folders:

if the game name contains illegal characters (for example: "Discworld II - Missing presumed...") the program gives an error message ("illegal filename") and crashes.

Instead, it should only use the legal characters (in the example: "Discworld II - Missing presumed") as folder-name.

Also another small idea:
i think i somewhere found a list containing the SonyID's and the Screenformat (PAL/NTSC) of the disc. Having this information in the gameInfo.txt could automatically default the pal conversion to the right value.

also regarding screen offsets: maybe this should also be incorporated into the gameInfo.txt, and if people report screen offset problems the file could be easily updated with the info :-)

And another idea:
Wouldnt it be nice if the program automatically could pull the right icon0 files from some website?

But anyways,
THIS SOFTWARE ROCKS!

Maybe someone could get the icons already available from the icons thread and compile them all in a big zip file according to the folder setup that this app uses so that users could just download that and extract to the psx2psp folder.

Saves some trouble on Kingsquitter's part. ;)

One option that I have stumbled upon when fiddling with the home option was the game manual. Would it be possible to actually put in FAQs and walkthroughs into there by including it in the converted Eboot? If so would you please add it in? It would be a really cool feature to look at text based FAQs while in the home menu to beat most of our PSP games.

So is there yet a way or will there ever be away to be able to quickly apply different warning screens/icons/backgrounds etc. to already created EBOOTs?

Or will we always have to extract the EBOOT to ISO and then convert all over again?

Also, what does it mean when an EBOOT won't convert to ISO and gives an error saying "Cant find end of ISO file." Is the EBOOT game corrupt?

??

If you want it to create a folder using the 'Game Title' or 'Save Title' these have to be entered before you select the ISO/PBP File..
it worked here...
when setting a default bdp directory in the options and allow the sw to create directories (and of course save these settings as default), you can select an iso and it automatically creates a driectory from the game name.
the only problem there arises if the game name contains illegal characters.

if you select an iso the app automatically appends the game title to the default path and creates the directory when you click on convert.

One option that I have stumbled upon when fiddling with the home option was the game manual. .
that would be really nice.

Not tried the app yet, as all my PS1 games are stuck in the attic and I'll be going up at weekend, but in readiness I want to create some custom icons/backgrounds of my own.

Do I have to create them at a particular resolution, or does the GUI do resizing?

ICON0 = 144x80 PNG-8 or PNG-24
PIC1 = 480x272 PNG-8 or PNG-24
PIC0 = 310x180 PNG-8 or PNG-24

And I'm not sure if it still holds true but I read that its best to keep the total file size of all 3 images under 300kb.

warning.png is always overwritted by the default one when you open an iso

it's better if the program check if a warning.png is already present and in this case load it

atm after you open an iso you must manually overwrite the warning.png every time :(

Yeah, similar problem here. First let me say that I am ecstatic about 0.7 now being able to edit already created EBOOTs. But I find that it doesn't seem to let me edit the warning screen.

I open the EBOOT, add new ICON0, PIC1, etc. Then I go to add the warning screen and I select convert to update the EBOOT with the new files. The EBOOT converts fine.

What is strange is that when opening the newly converted EBOOT and selecting PREVIEW I can see the new warning screen. But when loading the game on the PSP. The new warning screen doesn't appear and its just that same old black background white text warning.

Any thoughts? Am I doing something wrong? Does the program not yet support editing of warning screens?

Thanks in advance for any time or attention you can give to this.

You rock. Can't wait to try this. I'm on 3.02 OE-B just now and its amazing but Tekken 3 has some graphical errors which I know will be fixed in 3.03 OE ;)

Yeah, that would be a nice warning screen without the icon bracket. The bracket doesn't really work as a warning screen since the icon disappears when that screen is displayed.

I hope KS has an option to re-compress eboots so we don't have to create these from scratch. Hint, hint...

Just do it with prompt now. It's easy. Just do, what the readme says.
I just converted 2 Games with the new popstation with compression 6 and each are over 200MBs smaller! :)

If you guys go back to the original post (#740 - page 50) I have put the PSD file on the page for others to play with and to take stuff out or put in ...

If you're not a Photoshop guy then here it is for ya ...

I put the Icon box there originally as it's in the exact spot where the icons are on the XMB menu so it all looks similar ... and the fact that the Sony logo was infact part of the icon ... but hey everybody likes different things :)
