View Full Version : Running PSX on Virgin 1.5 PSP via Emulated 3.02?

I know the PSX on PSP can only be used on OE-A 3.02. But what I want to know, will it be possible to run PSX on an emulated version of the latest firmware on 1.5 via Devhook in the near future?
I know its not possible as of right now, but I am sure there are quite a few virgin 1.5 PSP owners who do not want to flash upgrade just to be able to play PSX games on the PSP. I am hoping someone can come up with a solution where 1.5 owners can emulate the PSX via 3.02 Devhook.
If anyone has any information about this, or the possibilities for the near future please post. Thanks.

It's ok man. I had a virgin 1.5 too. I finally took the plunge into 3.02 oe, and absolutely love it. Not sure what you are going to do with a "virgin" psp anyway, I mean they don't even raise the selling point that much (a couple of bucks). I used to be like you (only wanting to use devhook, playing it safe with flash), then I looked at 3.02 oe. Following the steps (a 10 year old could do it), and I was done installing/upgrading in 15 minutes because it is that easy. Trust me, you won't screw up your psp. If you are that cautious just keep re-reading the steps like 10 times to make sure you never miss one.
Hope this helps!
i was going to say the same thing, go to the darkside, 302 OE, do it

Lol, i had same way of thinking as yours of not using any custom firmware, but i realized that the 1.5 itself was useless so i upgraded to 3.02 OE-A, u should do the same...

Why do people want to stay at 1.5? I don't understand?
3.02OE is far better. If you don't like it you can always go back to 1.5 through recovery mode. But once you have installed 3.02OE then you definitely won't want 1.5 back I guarantee it! :D

Flashing is really scary to me. The idea that a minor screwup can mean death to the PSP...serious business.
I want to do this so bad. I'm so afraid of downloading files that someone decided to purposely screw up to brick unsuspecting PSP owners..how can I be sure to get the legitimate files to install this?

Dark_AleX himself posted the files.. you can't get anymore legitimate than that.

i was the same as all of the virigin 1.5 users i thought to play it safe and devhook can do it all anyway imma keep it. well i upgraded to 3.02OE and i think i wanted to beat my own ass for not going to 2.71SE before. 3.02OE can do everything 1.5 can but easier.

I think people who refuse to update to these custom firmwares are totally stupid.
almost as dumb as those people who do the official updates

I think for alot of us hardcore 1.5 Users, we just like knowing that 1.5 works..
and why mess with something.. if it ain't broke don't fix it right?
well I decided to try out 302 OE.. couldn't be happier!
makes things so much easier...
recovery is there if you don't like it.. which you won't use because you'll love it
take it from somebody who has been burned by updating their PSP and was not able to use homebrew and had to wait for a long time for a downdater... 302 OE is the way to go. Update now!
What are you waiting for.. I said NOW damn it

It does give you access to the other firmware features without having the reboot cycle and some extra space on the ms, but if you're happy with it, stick with it.

There is nothing better than hearing people say "i was so fricked out to flash my psp but now there is no way to go back to 1.5"!!Thats the purpose.
How many people have you heard that installed 3.02oe-a and went back to 1.5 because they regreted it?Sure a lot fewer than those who decided to stay with dark alex's firmware!

You don't have to tell me how awesome DA firmware is, its the reflashing part that freaks me out.

Just do it...be sure to read the README!
In resume...it's basically something like this:
1. download 1.50 and 3.02 eboots
2. rename the eboots and put it on the update maker folder(this will generate a data.psar)
3.Copy the generated data.psar to the flasher folder, and run it...it checks for your battery voltage and even that the files are there...
Be sure to read the readme twice if necesary, but it's fairly simple...you wont use 1.50 again!

lol yeah bstronga
and yeah.. if you don't have 75% battery power even WITH the charger plugged in.. it will NOT do the install.. nice lol =)
and there is litterally no way of bricking unless you
pull out the memstick..
turn off the PSP halfway through the install..
try to update a TA-082
and that's about it..
so.. are you going to do that? :P no! embrace DA's hard work!!
and playing PS1 games on the PSP just makes the PSP that much Friggen better o_O;
You now have an even BROADER amount of games to play from! Especially all the old classic PSX games you long forgot! Not just the SONY rereleases

A little correct their for you > Trying to install it onto a normal TA-82/TA-86 will brick it (if its preflashed to 1.5 or motherboard modded then its good)
I also dont see why people wont upgrade to this I said the same when 2.71SE-A was out and the 1.5 POC before that, not needing Devhook makes like simpler especialy when I also let other people play my psp, with this its "just goto the memory card menu and pick the game", I have devhook setup just incase but not needed it to play any game yet.

Listen man. I bricked a psp earlier this year using a flash modding app to try to change the gameboot. It was a pain in the ass but it taught me a lesson... in the future be careful.
Today I upgraded my second psp (purchased used after my first was bricked) to OE-B. It was an extremely painless procedure. Follow the guide posted in this forum and you're gold. FYI, I got my 3.02 update from psp-hacks and my 1.50 from pspupdates.
Follow the instructions and you'll be good to go. Trust me friend... It's worth the tiny risk. The payoff is too large to ignore. and CSOs run a great deal better this way.
Just do it. OE-B is the best thing since K-Exploit... and we all did that. :D
The best suggestion i can make is to do it yourself by following the guides. Don't trust "noob friendly" installers or pre-compiled bundles. If you do it's yourself following the guide you can ensure that everything goes right.
Do it right and you'll be running the first *real* firmware upgrade since 1.50
