Alright, I have my vredit card out, and I'm about to order the DS-Xtreme, unless someone can point me to a better alternative. I've never messed with flash carts before, but I'm not any kind of idiot, so if anyone can give me a suggestion on an alternative, I'm willing to wait a few hours to order. The only problem I can see with this so far is it apparently doesn't play GBA games, and only has 512 megs of space, but... I can live with the space limitation if it has good compatibility. If someone here has something like a supercard, I'd like to hear what kind of compatibility you get out of that, too. Oh, and what all you need to do to get it to run (In a nutshell, I don't need a walkthrough, just an idea) Any help is appreciated in advance!

if u can live with 512MB and $124
go ahead with s h i t t y DS-X.

imo, slot2 solution is most u need, since DS-X has s h i t t y compatibility on games(who the fu_ck want led lights on their DS?).
But if u wanna try why not?

Well I'll try and be more helpful than above poster.
DS-X is a great product. Some say it's a little expensive. To me it's well worth the price.

The simple Drag and drop adding and saving of games and savefiles works great on just about any OS - Mac, Win, Linux.
The current max-size for NDS games is 128Mbyte. You can fit 4 of those on the DS-X.
The fact you don't have to use any extra software to manage your cart is what really makes this the best option. No extra Slot 2 loading to get to the Slot 1 cart... just take the DS-X out of your NDS hook it to the USB cable and drag and drop. It's that simply.
The compatibility is solid and improving - while not perfect yet, it looks like they are at least making an honest effort to get there.

Unless you really want insanely good MP3 functions (space is only 512MByte) and/or play tons of video but are in the market for a solid gamecart, DS-X is the choice.
If you don't mind fiddling with extra cables, more carts, cables running into the slot 2 through a slot 2 cart and different saveformats go ahead buy another cart.
If you want a hazzle free NDS gaming experience - get the DS-X. To me it's a gamecart and not a mediacart.

PS: Oh, and I agree that I don't want dancing LEDS although someone told me he used it as flashlight... geh.

DS-X is gonna be fu_cked so bad,
SuperCard DS has released and can buy from hopebuy.com also red hot stuff(next week).
R4 is coming, Ewin3 is also coming.
Guess those DS-X makers gonna cry, money's gone~~~ away~~
Fu_cking bastards put out such a cr_appy card and with that fu_cking high price, and still some retard bought that sh_it.

To be honest, that's true. Supercard company did announce that their slot 1 solution is being in development now. They call it the "Supercard DS" It basically functions like a DS-Xtreme except it uses MicroSD instead of fixed memory and they didn't mention anything about being able to singlecart multiplay nor acting as a passme to let you run nds roms on slot 2...

So here's the breakdown:
DS-Xtreme
-don't have to wait for months for the product to be complete. Just a few weeks for shipments to come in.
-don't need to buy stuff separately (microsd + supercard DS)
-nice OS
-good english on the nice OS
-fixed 512MB
-able to singlecart multiplay
-interesting gadgets like "dancing LEDS" (drains more batteries by the way >.>;)
-Priced at around 124.99 USD

Supercard DS (what they claim)
-Has to wait for them to actually complete the development first
-Uses MicroSD (a normal 1 GB Microsd costs around $55~ max $60)
-Has built-in auto patch system, so all we need to do is drag + drop roms on the mirosd and the cart will do the rest.
-has a function that allows you to "trim rom" to shorten the size of the roms you put in.
-A chance of singlecart multiplay, but slim chance cuz it's not part of the announcement... =(
-Price offered at $54.99 USD

So I'll leave the decision upto you. =/
Both have its goods and bads. It all depends of how you want to use it. =P

Hope that'll give you a good idea of what to choose.

PS, if you want slot 1 solution, don't expect it to support GBA unless you want to run it as an emulator cuz it's two different things =/. But hey! if you have slot 1 solution, that means you'll have your slot 2 to run gba roms. =P

Not sure what you mean by poor compatibility. I have only 1 not working, M&L Partners in Time, and I read it will work with firm upgrade which I haven't done yet.

Right now, on my DS-X card, I have:

1. Advance Wars
2. AoE AoK
3. Eragon
4. Mario Kart DS
5. Metroid Prime Hunters
6. Metroid Prime Pinball (awesome pinball game)
7. Need For Speed Carbon
8. New Super Mario Bros
9. Nintendogs Dalmatians
10. Star Trek Tactical Assault
11. Tetris DS
12. Yoshi Touch and Go
13. Yoshi's Island

I can get by with 13 good games at a time loaded. Then, to delete and load other games, takes all of 10 seconds.

I got my ds-x over two months ago and have no complaints. Sure 512mb isnt alot of memory and it doesnt support GBA but all the other features make it worth while. I wanted something simple and easy to use which the ds-x is. Simple plug usb cable into pc and into ds-x and drag your files over. Load your ds and it will find your apps how easier can it get? As for the guy b!tching above know your role and shut your mouth :p.

Hey now, let's not start a flame war or be bias...I'm sure everyone has their own reasons =/
DS-Xtreme might not be the best, but definitely not bad at all. Every slot 1 solution right now has its ups and downs and it's only up to the buyers to decide which features they choose to sacrifice... =/

ie. DS-Xtreme - single unified piece of card; no more, no less. Which means there's no need to buy anything extra (ie. microsd) or afraid that part of the whole might become missingl. But that'll mean the memory is fixed and not upgradeable... choices, choices =/

It's been five days now since I've ordered, and it doesn't look like they'll even be shipping out for at least eight more days. Damn. I should have went SuperCard.

Yes the demand for the ds-x seems to be pretty high. I pre-ordered mine 3 months in advanced so i would get one on the release date. Once you finally get the product im sure you will be happy with it :D.

I keep on going on about but I can't find any real information on it; its the FPGA in the DS-X. For those of you that dont know what a FPGA is; it's like a programmable cpu. It can be programmed to do almost anything. This is the single most useful feature that I can see with the DS-X that makes it stand out compared to any of the other slot 1 cards available or coming soon. In theory it could be made to uncompress/decode on the fly, roms, movies etc or a 68k cpu for emulators etc, with hardly the main DS cpus having to do anything, so maybe the 512mb of fixed space wouldn't seem so small. Why this feature isn't pushed or used in the DS-X is beyond me, makes it silly to include it and not use and still charge for it.

I was this close to getting a DS-X then I had to wait for a few months and eventually cancelled becuase the M3 simply was announced. I am still holding out, if there is some solid info on the DS-X and actual software to activate the FPGA I might still get it, otherwise it's the M3 and a 1gb TF card for me and a bundle of change.

so basically the ds-x is now rubbish?

how does it have shi tty compatibility? I have over 700 .NDS roms and have yet to see one that the DS-X cannot handle. Get your facts straight.

Dont forget that is upgradeable. Im on the 2nd 'firmware' if u will. Personally, i luv the leds. I, too, use it as a 'flashlight' every now and then when i need to look at something real quick where turning the lights on is not practical
