I was looking at a couple pictures of a viper but the only thing is that they look different! Are there multiple versions of the viper? If not, Then I think I've found an imposter!!! I've attached pictures to point out the differences. One I'm not sure of is the color. The one from divineo is shot with a different exposure so I'm unsure whether the color is different. You decide.

Probably just an earlier prototype board on a blue medium instead of green.

Oh ok. I just don't wanna end up buying a fake half-assed chip.

I see u have the blue picture from gamefreax.com I've bought my viper there. When I ordered it I saw that picture too, but I got the black one. They just sell the same Vipers, but the picture on the site is different...

The blue one does not exist, no idea why they have that picture when a picture of the real chip is widely available?

Dunno. It's strange, very strange. I do like how one person voted it's an imposter.

The blue one does exist. I remember reading on 'ps2banz' how some people have it. They said it works, just a different color pcb. But now i see you pointed out the differences. I remember when i was ordering mine, i said to myself, "i better get a black one or ima bust some heads!" lololol << Dunno for some reason u can just tell the black one is the real deal. ;)

nice find...

theres also one more difference in the bottom left corner where the two resistors actually join. Not sure what effects this would have but on the "real" picture there not joined so i'd assume it would of had some sort of effect soldering them together.

-Edit-

I got a good feeling that the top picture is the prototype (hence the extra soldering holes for wires) perhaps the original was going to be an extra 9 wires for something.

If this was the case it wouldnt really matter what version you have because they obviously decided they wernt needed.

and "X" is probably the prototype name which was later changed to viper...

does anyone know if theres much difference between the boards is black cheaper than blue?

Yeah. I don't think the blue exists. I just got my viper and its the black one. It's much smaller than I thought, and so are the points , but I got it in and working.

Same here, black chip - but middle chip lettered.
(ordered from gamefreax)

If someone has a pic of the bottom-side of the chip I think we could really tell then if it's a prototype or whatever, cause the black chip has the ViperGC logo printed on it (at least mine has *G).
