View Full Version : Sony Cans Gran Turismo HD, Skips to GT5
Polyphony's CEO has announced that Gran Turismo HD will only be available as a downloadable demo from the Playstation store and will not be hitting retail as a full product. Rock on GT5!
Polyphony’s CEO and producer of the GT series, Kazunori Yamaouchi says the company has decided to focus directly on Gran Turismo 5 while offering consumers a work-in-progress via the GT-HD Concept demo. That will be available for download in Japan on December 24.
He said “GT-HD Concept” features 10 cars, one course with two layouts, time Attack and drift trial modes. It also delivers a full HD visual experience reinforced with the new engine being developed for GT5. It has no online support other than a network ranking. The online experience will come with GT5."
No date has been fixed for GT5, although Yamaouchi says there may be further concept demos in the future.

not suprising, I knew that GT HD was going to be worse then all the HD games for the 360. Whatever, I bought this PS3 and all of the new games that are coming out in the next few months are all going to be delayed. Basically the Ps3 will suck for its first year. A year from now the Wii will have way more awesome games and it may be upgraded to HD. At least I have a HD hackbox 360 with every game to hold me off for a year.

That's not good considering that many people were looking forward to that game. I guess 5 is always better that a remake but does that mean PS3 owners have to wait an extra year?

if there is one game that has continuously been delayed its gran tourismo. canning hd and focusing on 5 is a good move but i don't see 5 coming out for another year and half to 2 years.

i never thought GT HD was a full game anyway, sony seemed to be indecisive over it and i think its best they do just focus on a true next gen version of the game, using staff and resources to produce 2 at once would only delay 5 further and if thres anything the PS3 doesnt need right now, its delayed killer software.
I just hope they can resist from making up bullsh!t in preparation for its release, 1080p/20player multiplayer etc etc that never happens.

GT was what made the purchase of my PS2. I was going to buy a PS3 when this was released. Looks like i'm waiting a little longer, or at least until something else comes out that I can't resist.

I know that this is the PS3 Section, but during this "Interview" did anyone even mention the Overy-delayed PSP version of this Game?!
Hell PSP owners should come first!
We've only been waiting for GT for like forever now!

I think he's trying to simply express his frustration at the fact that he's finding out *now*, as many are, that there are so many dissapointments, not just complaining...
It's dissapointing indeed that a game so anticipated has been officially deemed to be nothing but a "demo" of GT5, which indeed will likely come out in at least a year and a half, if not more... All these continuous delays & the lack of games the gamers want is going to cost dearly.... Especially when the two other big fish, Nintendo & Microsoft are pumping out great games... Software sells & popularizes the console, not delays & promises...

when this is released (which won't be for another 3 years knowing polyphony) I will get the PS3 + GT5 bundle. Maybe by then they will know how to program and have the system bugs worked out.

Well considering the fact that they said it takes several months to program and create each car GT5 prob wont hit till mid 2008. Maybe earlier but they are notorious for delaying games. Almost as bad as 3d realms and duke nukem forever.
Personally I prefer a more arcade type game like Gotham over GT and Forza but it is a huge system seller so they better get on Polyphony to get this game done.

I would be surprised if Gran Turismo 5 hits Europe before Christmas 2008 (2 years from now).
We still haven't seen Gran Turismo 4 Mobile for the PSP ;) Or what happened to Gran Turismo 4 Online for the PS2? :D
Btw, Gran Turismo 4 only had 576i support in Europe :(. Looks like crap on my 32 " LCD-TV. Still trying to find the US version to be able to run 1080i.

Were they working on those two games in parallel though, or just delayed GT5 until GT4½ was complete? I'm asking because I don't have a clue about GT development.
I think it's a smart idea though. Why concentrate on a game for the most expensive console which wasn't designed from the ground up for it, when the competition is coding specifically for the latest system? There would have been quite a few professional game reviewers unfairly comparing GT4HD against the older 360 HD title Forza 2, saying why is wasn't worth the wait. And some would view that as proof that the PS3 just isn't worth a purchase.

Sony and Polyphony decided to cut the crap and halt production of Gran Turismo HD, focusing solely on Gran Turismo 5 due out in 2008. GTHD is, however, going to come out as a demo on December 24th, offering a little less than a dozen cars and two variations of one track. It's supposed to be a Japan-only demo, but they couldn't possibly keep it away from everyone else. Could they? Now... while this is pretty sad news (even though people were complaining about the microtransactions idea and people will know complain about a free demo... go figure), we have to think... could this demo truly be more of a lead-in to Gran Turismo 5 instead of the resignation of GTHD? A taste of what to come, one may say.

Wow I was not aware of this, it could however explain why you only get 576i (PAL Standard) which IS NOT A HD STANDARD at all.
AFAIK: HD Res is:
720p
1080i
... and 1080p
That's it!

Yes the NTSC/US release of GT4 allowed you to race in 480i/p and 1080i on the PS2 using the optional Component video cables, when I played GT4 thats how I did it and it looked rather decent. This was a pain however because GT4 wouldn't save the display settings and you would have to tell it to use 1080i everytime you started the game...and only the race was in HD so your TV would switch back to 480i when in the menus.
