hi everyone. im new to these forums. just wondering if anyone can help me? i installed a viper chip in my original jap gc (i got it the week it came out in japan). it plays fine with full size dvd-r on cobra 0.3 and 0.4. i never got one dre. its the 8cm dvd-r thats the problem. i first tried datawrite red 8cm- loads up anygame but hangs and then a screen comes up saying disk cant be read. same happened with cybadisk 8cm. i then bought some memorex 8cm. everything loads up , the game starts and then the error. so i could see the quality difference in the 3 8cm i tried. so i have been reading these forums for the last week about the laser tweak. i gave it a try last night. my laser was set at 450 and i brought it down to 250 and it was still the same. i then tried 200,180 and 160 but still no joy:confused: so im asking anyone got anymore ideas how to play 8cm dvd-r. maybe the next cobra release will sort these issues or it could be that my cube is too old. thx

210 ohms here. in a PAL cube. minidvdr's work 100% flawlessly. Ive had one error in 80.
are u burning your iso's in Nero? Its' the only one that worked for me. Stomp just gave me coasters. Try using different burning software. U could try Nero, Stomp or Alcohol 120% to name a few.
I also have a jap cube which i need to mod soon, ill bump this thread to let u know how i get on.

210 here as well, origionally 450 on US launch day cube. Got Ritek mini's working perfectly. Just out of curiousity, are u using an analog or digital multi-meter? Cause i found it damn near impossible to get a proper reading with analog. I returned it & spent the extra $ on a digital. Even with that said, watch the digital readings..They fluxuate a little. So when u think your reading is 210ohms, it could be dropping. So keep your 2 points touching til the reading finalizes. Also the pot is so damn sensitive, i found the easiest way to get the ohms where i wanted, was to have a friend hold the probes on the points while i adjusted the pot. Good luck! :)

My JAP Cube was at 425ohm.
And I adjusted it to 185ohm.
I still have a few DRE's on some games...
...but I'm very happy!
(And I have no Ritek DVD's..)

thanks for the replies guys.
i am using nero to burn my games. they dont seem to sell the ritek g04s in england. the memorex ones ive tried say 'mini dvdr' on the box rather than 'pocket dvdr' . i heard somewhere there is a difference in the 2. ill keep trying anyway. thanks

try datawrite red mini-dvdr. thats all ive used so far. its also the format MentalCube (or Cobra?) recommended a while ago after their initial tests when the chip was first launched.
