Right now, 1GB of flash memory in the volume market costs about $45, according to both Semico and iSuppli. Thus, the 512Gb DS-Xtreme, which sells for $124.95, contains around $22.50 worth of flash said Semico's Jim Handy.

Could this be true? You would also have to figure in manufacturing costs and tooling costs. Even though this is made in China, where labor costs next to nothing compared to the United States labor costs.

Ouch. The DS-X doesn't seem such a good deal after-all.

LOL.

How much do you think a bottle of water cost to produce? Yet we're happy to pay upto £1 ($1.80) for a little bottle of it

OMG there's no better comparsion than this.....
But I'm always open for a more "competitive" pricing =)

The price is high due to a lack of competition and limited availability of the product.

From what i've read it is still the best slot 1 solution (acekard and ninjapass both seem to be a bit crap), so i doubt the price will come down because of the new competition.

I think the DS X is good value considering the price of retail games....

Just remember they have never officially supported this ;) Although I own a ds-x and it's the best choice by far, so far. I will probably buy a card with a micro-sd slot, when it comes out, but probably an m3 or supercard one.

The DS-X tends to be way too expensive for what you get.
$124.95 for only 512 MB of space.

By comparison you can get a Sandisk 512 MB Micro SD flash card for $20.99
or a Sandisk 1 GB Micro SD flash card for only $37.99

How the DS-X's compatibility gotten better yet?

High price wont let DS-X stay in the market for good.
The price of DS-X will drop to $50 or lower after all other slot1 card come out.
And 512MB is piece of S H I T, they will copy other cards use mirco sd too.

you cant compare the price of a mass produced (and legal) memory stick thats sold in hardware stores / online across the world to something produced in moderatly small numbers and sold by a handful of websites, If the dsx was produced in the same numbers and had the same amount of competition it would be much much cheaper.

people are happy to pay the price at the mo, they would be fools to drop the price.

Well for starters if the DS-X team dropped the FPGA that nobody uses it would be a lot cheaper..
