U need a step down converter. Under no cirmcumstances should use a 220-240V power adapter on a JAP or US machine cos u will blow up a very expensive piece of kit.

Look for a 300-500Watt - 110V - 220-240V stepdown on Ebay or Maplins if ur in the UK.

you dont need a power adaptor (stepdown) for the ps3.

the ps3 has a multi voltage power supply in it, all is you need is a pc lead with a 5amp fuse in it.

it will work fine...

Great stuff, I'm from Australia I'm thinking of importing a USA console due to having a bigger selection of ps1 and ps2 titles.

I thought because the PS3 had a 3 pin computer plug connection it would autosense the 110/240v.

Would a normal Australia 240V PC lead be fine to use with a USA console?

yep kettle power lead from australia powers a ps3 no probs. My jap one started right up, selected engrish, then downloaded the 4 main demos.
Although... im back to playing gears of war again now... hahaha

NOTE: A USA or JAP ps3 will not play local DVDs in Australia.
Hopefully homebrew hack for this soon.

Great stuff guys the kettle plug yep lol :)

That's my biggest issue with importing a console from States is I need a big ass step down converter.

Well I'm going to get a USA PS3 due to having a bigger blue ray collection then australia.

Cheers

I was under the impression that the retail version only supports 110v, which means to use it in the 220v area you need a step down convertor.
The review version has a multi-volt power supply though.

retail version is multi voltage, no need for a stepdown

Hehe, This may be a very stupid question but i have to know it anyways and i have an excuse(i'm not native english :D). So if i put the power cord directly into my 220/240v socket on my wall. And then put it the other end in the PS3(i live in the netherlands), will it work?

No. It wont fit. But if you get an ordinary PC power cable and use that then it will work.

I'm using a Japanese PS3 in Spain. We have 220v/50hz and it works perfectly with no adapter whatsoever.

I go to medical school in india and i don't know if i should go with the 500 watt converter or something else. A friend out here uses a 3000 watt step down converter but i need something cheaper. Any ideas?

Well, if you read this old thread that you dug up, you would see that you donīt need any step down converter.
That is, as long as India uses anything between 100v to 240 volts.
