View Full Version : PS3 Vs Xbox 360 - from a Developers Perspective
A game developer has weighed up the PS3 and Xbox 360, and the 360 comes out a clear winner. He even makes claims that the PS3 is inferior in power in addition to the high price, game selection (well it did just launch), and visual quality.
Being a video game developer (I develop for both, Playstation 3 and XBOX 360) people ask me almost daily which platform I think is better. These are my personal feelings, in no way does this reflect my employer.
Short answer: XBOX 360.
Long answer: Price, performance, visual quality, game selection and online support. I think the XBOX 360 wins in every category.

This might be a stupid question, but how reliable a site is hardcoreware.net anyways? I'd never heard of them prior to their interview with this unidentified developer. And it does seem suspect that Mr. or Ms. Anonymous "haven't seen the final (PS3) hardware yet.

Sorry Zeus, but I have to agree with him. That just doesn't sound legit. Though, many developers are stating the same thing, aside from power. It's easier to create games for the 360 then it is for the PS3, and obviously the pricing is pretty steep for any gamer, let alone the not so avid gamers.

I was the one who sent this in, I got it from a link on Xbox-Scene and I know they're usually reliable on most stories they post. I do agree that it's hard to believe someone that doesn't have a name, but I also know that we keep seeing more and more devs saying the same thing as this guy. Many games have been delayed or cancelled for PS3 because of those reasons. Also, the biggest problem is that a lot of devs can't come out and say that stuff because they may get in trouble by their higher ups for bad mouthing a company the publisher wants them to make games for.

What I'm wondering about isn't why the commenter was anonymous, just whether the site which posted the statements was credible. If it has a reputation for being balanced and fair, that's one thing. And if it is typically a fanboy site or a pro- or anti- site with any console, that would be another matter entirely. The slant was a fair bit more negative than I typically hear from third party developers, which got the alarm bells ringing initially.
As far as the cancellations go, that likely has more to do with the market shrinking than anything else. Going from 2,000,000 consoles to 500,000 means that developers suddenly have lost 75% of the potential market, and releasing the titles later (when sequels to comparable games are nearing release) would seem pointless. Just guesswork on my part though.
