View Full Version : Wii are not Freeloaders! Swap you way to import goodness

It would seem as if Freeloader works on the GC and will allow import games to be run on the machine, so far this has been tested with GC games to work fine.

By now everyone knows that the Wii is not region free, but fret not. I imported all of the Naruto games on gamecube and had to order a boot disk (Freeloader) to get them to with my gamecube. Got my Wii tonight (I am loving this system so far) and decided to test out my import games. The didnt work using them alone, but I used freeloader and now my import games work on my Wii as if they were on my Gamecube.

Anyone know if save games for an NTSC copy of Resident Evil 4 will work with a PAL version? :)

Failing that, being able to use Freeloader is good news. I'd imagine they'll be looking into getting whatever they can working with the Wii as well.

Why, of course the GC Freeloader works on the GC! Fix that typo bub. ;)

replaced my ntsc backup with a bought pal original last week when i saw it on sale for a tenner and unfortunately they do not.

which sadly means i had to play through it AGAIN from the start. took me less than 14 hours.

Looks like it's a mixed bag... Some people are having luck, some aren't...

I myself wasn't able to get the Wii to read the Freeloader, it just says it "can't read the disc"... --- ***EDIT/Correction, I was confused, as someone else in his thread mentioned having a Euro disc... The poster says he has "version 1.06B"...

He's posted some suggestions based on his experimentation in the posting on gamefaqs, such as turning the console on w/ the Freeloader already in it, which I've yet to try, though; I'm remaining optimistic, as I intend to play GNT4 on this, even if it means I have to wind up buying another/newer version of Freeloader eventually...

<Quoted from Particleman08's post on Gamefaqs>
"I was correct in my theory of the freeloader disk needing to be in the Wii from the start. When you insert the disk, the system will automatically power on and take you to the channel's screen. At this point do not select the disc channel to run freeloader. Just turn your system back off, with the freeloader disk still in. Then power the system back on, and when it takes you to the channels screen, now select the disc channel and it should take you to the proper freeloader screen."</quoted>

Nice to hear that the Freeloader (http://www.play-asia.com/SOap-23-83-3eut-71-28-49-en-15-freeloader-84-j-70-1ik.html) works on Wii. I have some import games and that I want to play (I have Freeloader v1.06).

The original person on Gamefaqs boards who posted this is using Freeloader 1.0, Euro version

Hold on a second.. he used a EURO freeloader gamecube disk on a USA wii console?? Surely thats impossible! The euro freeloader disk is of course region coded PAL and only works on EURO gamecubes.

do you have a link to that thread.. i cant find it

***EDIT: Correction, sorry about that, but I was confused, as someone else in his thread mentioned having a Euro disc... The poster said he had "version 1.06B"...

Here's the thread link anyway, it's in the news posting from above, also:

Sidenote: Like I mentioned about his thread, it sounds like it works when you insert the freeloader & reboot the console... Sounds like it only recognizes the disc when you boot the console w/ the disc already in... I'm hoping that'll work for me... I'll know for certain tonight, though, and be certain to post my results...
