View Full Version : Five Reasons why the Wii Will Disappoint
Gamedaily bravely battles all the positive media surrounding the Wii, citing five possible reasons as to why it could fall flat on its buttocks. Lack of loyal customers from GC, price advantage will erode and of course the inferior graphics.

This is so true. Who is going to be buying a Wii next Christmas? No one!
-Its graphics suck now and they won't be getting any better... considering they are already maxed out with Zelda.
-Developers made a ton of launch games, but I haven't seen 1 single game besides those even talked about.
-I don't know a single friend that owned a gamecube that is buying a Wii... they all waited to in line to get a PS3.
-360 is getting a $50 price drop and the Wii isn't worth it since its a last gen system.
-Lets face it the Wii remote sucks. Almost every review I've read so far has said that the game would have been better using an analog.
The Wii might sell a million this weekend but after that its going to be dead.

You guys seem to keep missing one simple point: Wii wasn't really designed for gamers. Everyone ELSE is really excited about it. Some gamers are, some aren't- but I don't think the claim that GC 'loyalists' might not buy a Wii is going to hurt them at all.
The Gamecube was the first Nintendo system I just wasn't interested in at all on launch day. Eventually I bought a used one to play Wind Waker and a few other games, but sold it later. Was it a cool system? I don't know, it was okay. Would I rather have a souped up gamecube with the wiimote? In a second.
I grew up with NES and SNES-- and lost a lot of interest in consoles after N64. There are a lot of us that, believe it or not, drifted away from consoles, and the Wii is looking like a way to bring us back in... with a whole bunch of new people who haven't played a video game since NES.
The point is-- they hype ALONE for Wii drew me back into being interested in Console games. A lot has changed, I've found! I'm excited for something new, but I'm also giving one of the other systems a try too, I even bought a 360 a few days ago... but I'm way more excited for the little system that launches tomorrow.

One last thing:
360 is getting a $50 price drop and the Wii isn't worth it since its a last gen system. <--- Do you even LIKE games? Have you ever played any games on an old system? Do you not enjoy watching old movies because the effects look dated? WTF?
People are still retarded and compare Wii to the other systems. Wii is nothing like the other next gen machines, I hope that people will find that out some day. Besides the price will always be Nintendo's Ultimate weapon because they can drop the price to around 150 dollars. There isn't a single console that can compete with that for many years, till Sony gets even a bit of profit from PS3 Nintendo and MS have already launched their new consoles.

I dont even care anymore. But anyone can see what a disaster the wii is. I have taken a lot of flakk form the nintendorks and the americans (both the lowest forms of life on the planet), but when you look at it, the ps3 is overpriced, and the games suck so far. the wii game reviews have almost UNANIMOUSLY been very negative and disapointing. in fact even the biggest wii title right now, twlight princess, feels as if the extra features for the wii have been added without much need....
seriously. if you still want the two consoles, then you probably deserve them. but at least have some shame and pride and not diss the xbox 360 anymore.

Well the critics were almost the same with the DS, Touchscreen sucks, Graphics are bad, no 3rd Party support and so on. And now I see 13 year old girls playing with their DS on the stairs and thats just what Nintendo's strategy is!
Anyway at the moment I'll stick with my '360!

wow it seems this BuffaloBill and MadonnaProject are in agreement, so guess that proves they both lack credibility. anyways, in response this is my take.
- Inferior graphics - sure inferior but still more powerful than last gen
- Lack of software support - ? they have more support than most, and they have a ton of launch titles. even square enix is backing wii, what is this guy smoking again?
- Low levels of brand loyalty from GC owners - lets me honest, there weren't alot of them, nintendo is trying something new and is trying to brink people back to nintendo, the people that played in the 80's and early 90's and guess what it is working, they are bringing in a demographic that is never covered. and with the Wiimote i think that it will become the console of choice for alot of people. and how well did the ds sell? especially in japan? the Wii will sell. the ds is outselling everything right now. bodes well for Wii.
- Price advantage will erode - it will erode? its already the cheapest, ms doesn't appear willing to lower prices, sony through history is more reluctant than anyone to drop prices, and based on percentages of when sony has dropped the prices, the cheapest the PS3 CAN EVER GET IS $287, still $37 more than what Wii's starting price was. Nintendo is making money on the Wii from day one, as the technology they used in Wii gets cheaper, and they get there money back for R&D the price will get cheaper and cheaper and they will still be making money, if ms and sony dropped there prices at this point it would make them lose even more money every time they sell a console.
- Wii remote is clumsy at times - this one is funny, the only people i have seen say this are people that played closer than they are suppose to, Matt from ign said that the Wiimote at places like E3 could feel clumsy if you were in a tight space, but if you backed up everything worked perfect, and was not clumsy, ever. everyone that has played a Wii and stood back from it have had way better success. I have played the Wii at my local gamecrazy and i can tell you it was not clumsy in the least.

Zilluss here gets it. The predictions for the DS were exactly the same, and it's hilarious. "Two screens? Who needs two screens? And a touch screen? Lame! The graphics won't be nearly as good as the PSP. PSP's going to own!"
And now the DS has completely destroyed the PSP in terms of sales, popularity and critical reviews. There's no argument anymore, that victory has gone to Nintendo.
Will the same thing happen with the Wii? Nah. Nintendo's too far behind in the console race to take out Sony or even MS. But who cares? It'll do well enough, and it'll get some people who don't usually play games into gaming. That's good for everyone. My wife will be willing to pick up and play Wii games. This is a good thing, not a bad thing.
If you think it's gonna suck, folks, I have a very simple solution for you: don't get one. For the rest of us, Nintendo's doing what they've always done - created an innovative system instead of the "me too, but prettier!" stuff that MS and Sony churn out, and made it affordable. And they'll make a profit on it out the door.
Criticize 'em all you want - trying to deflate how well their hype campaign is doing only lends it more publicity. They're going to laugh all the way to the bank.

you know this is bullsh!t so why do you say it? your pathetic. game reviews have been very positive in alsmost every case. Just becasue you make things up, doesnt make them fact.
Game reviews for the launch of both the PS3 and the 360 were far far worse than the Wii. If you cant say anything realistic, please STFU and go read reviews of these awesome PS3 games that are buggy, slow, and just plain bad, all 3 of them.

- Inferior graphics
Anyone actually looked at the PS3 launch games? Other than Resistance, they don't look much better than some of the best last-gen games. Madden on PS3 doesn't look much better than it does on the Wii.
- Lack of software support
There are still more launch titles for the Wii than there are for the PS3. They are also getting better reviews than the bulk of PS3 launch titles.
- Low levels of brand loyalty from GC owners
Actually, Nintendo's fanbase is very loyal. The Wii is supposed to draw in more mainstream retail buyers, though, so brand loyalty shouldn't even be a factor.
- Price advantage will erode
Funny... Sony and Microsoft have both stated numerous times that there will be no price cuts coming anytime soon. Apparently, the person who wrote this article must have insider information.
- Wii remote is clumsy at times
Not sure where this is coming from. There were reports of this right after E3 but reviews of controls in RETAIL games have been mostly positive. In fact, most have said that even though the graphics in "Call of Duty" aren't up to snuff with the PS3 or 360, the Wii version is still more fun because of the controls.
The mainstream media, even the gaming media, have turned their backs on Sony. The PS3 is an obvious disappointment and, at least for the moment, they have nothing but positive things to say about the Wii. Who is going to make the difference when it comes to average consumers purchasing a console... fanboys and bloggers on the net or mainstream television, magazines, and websites? I guess we'll find out after Christmas. ;)

- Inferior graphics - why should they be 'HD'? what is 'HD'? 720p? 1080i? 1080p? answer that. Also it has enough graphical power to get the job done.
- Lack of software support - More 3rd party developers than previous Nintendo consoles (not including handhelds), almost every dev states it's their prefererred system
- Low levels of brand loyalty from GC owners - but increased interest from everyone else
- Price advantage will erode - they could lower the price and still make a profit, lets see MS or Sony try that
- Wii remote is clumsy at times - not when everything has been setup correctly, sounds like the same comments when the analogue stick was introduced
edit:wow I took THAT long to post? I thought I was 5th or something

LOL, you say with respect to the Wii that it's a repeat bashing of what the DS copped and people were wrong, THEN you bash Sony for pricely the same things people were bashing the PS2 for when it was launched. Guess what? They were also wrong the bash the PS2 because it won. There is no reason why they'll be right to bash the PS3 this time.
A picture tells a thousand words and the Sony and MS kiosks have a lot more to say to the consumers than the Wii kiosks do. That matters.

Umm, no, there was a vast amount of positive hype surrounding the PS2. Anyone remember the Dreamcast? The press was mostly positive about it, and yet only the immense hype for the anticipation of the then unreleased PS2 made everyone ignore it despite many great 1st and 3rd party titles. Perhaps there was the occasional bad report regarding the PS2 but that always happens and the general feeling was most definitelly a very, VERY positive one. Anyone saying otherwise is simply lying.

Were any of you around when the original PlayStation launched? It was the same thing reversed... Nintendo fanboys crying about how no one could overtake the mighty Nintendo and saying the name "PlayStation" made it for kids. Now the shoe is on the other foot and Sony fanboys just can't stand the fact that Nintendo might actually be forging a comeback.

Why the PS3 and xBox zealots are fighting and critisizing so much, they must feel their precious Sony and MS are in for a ride this generation.

...What? Did you read what I wrote? I said that people made fun of the DS because they thought that its actual innovations - the two screens and the touchscreen - were gimmicky and worthless, and that its inferior graphics would make people pick the PSP instead. And that turned out to be bullshit, and the DS won hands down. While I don't think the Wii will kick the PS3's ass the way the DS kicked the PSP's, I still think it's hilarious that apparently nobody learned anything from the DS's success, and they think the Wii will magically fail taking the same route that did so well for the DS.
As for the PS3, I'm not bashing it or Sony at all, though I think their customer relations are absolutely atrocious and their pricing is laughable. The system will do very well, though. Between the two companies, though (Nintendo and Sony), Nintendo has always been the one that innovates and takes risks - they were the first to have 3D, the first to have analog control, the first with handhelds, and now the first with motion sensing - and then Sony makes it prettier and sells it for more $$. That does very well for Sony, and I don't begrudge them that, but personally, I'd rather pay less for Nintendo's system, since I get more enjoyment out of a new playstyle than out of a prettier version of an old one.
If you disagree with me, again, I have a very simple solution: Don't get a Wii. All this "Wii sucks! Only idiots will buy it! Nintendo is doomed!" nonsense only gives the Wii more publicity. Nintendo will make a tidy profit on it, just like they always do, even with the Gamecube. It's why they're still in business.
As an aside, I got to play the Wii tonight at a party, and I had a great time. Wii Sports is crazy fun. :D I honestly don't understand the hate that gets tossed around between console fanboys. Christ, people, either you like playing good games or you don't. If you do, you have no business bashing fun on any system. If you don't, what the hell are you doing on this board?

17 reasons for PS3 to fail:
- Overheating
- Price
- Dust magnet console (even tho it looks like a vacuum cleaner)
- Games look better on an xbox360
- RIIIIIIIIIIIIIIDGE RACER
- GIANT CRABS come out of it
- Creates MASSIVE DAMAGE to your brain.
- Same games as PS1 and PS2, but with High def.
- The board is too complex, too small to solder some future mod in that.
- Games are more expensive
- Backups will be expensive too (if there will be any)
- Did i mention.. Mommy? my $600 thing a red light and doesnt boot.
- How does it feel to Pay $600, and when you open the PS3 box, everything looks like it was made cheap and rush. I saw the pics guys, it looks like a shoe box.
- SAME GAMEPAD, AGAIN
- When you look at the Menu, you feel like you are playing your PSP connected to the TV.
- PS3 fuLL backward compatibility was an old chinese story.
- Too much hype, it will end just like UMD, future betamax.

I love Wii, its fun to play & its VERY cheap. I don't care its graphic. Why ppl still playing Super Mario on his SNEX?
I love Playstation 3, it has everything I need. I'm willing to pay & I think it's worth who cares. If you don't have that money, just stick with something you can afford.
Xbox - no no no. It sux.

that wouldn't shock me people have been predicting that Nintendo's stock would skyrocket these next couple of weeks, and them guessing that was based on how well they thought the Wii was going to sell.
