We want to go head-to-head with PS3 - Microsoft

Speaking to a UK gaming website, the Xbox UK Boss commented that MS want to go head-to-head with PS3. He said that in a way he regrets that the European launch of the PS3 was delayed as its much harder to fight a myth than the reality.



"In a lot of ways we'd like people to put the system side-by-side and see whether people want a platform where they're paying for Blu-ray straight away. Is Blu-ray that important to you that you want to buy into that platform right now and spend GBP 500 doing that? Or do you want a gaming system that has more high-definition gaming content today, has a better online service and provides you the choice of whether you want to upgrade to the next-generation of DVD platform in the future?"

"We would have quite liked to have gone head-to-head on those issues because we feel very strongly that we have an incredibly compelling offering," he added.

hm, sound like clever marketing or should i say propaganda? to me all of this ranting sounds just a bit desperate. they have been argueing against a console that isn't out yet for month. someone who is sure that he has a clear advantage just sits back and enjoys instead of ranting that his opponent brings nothing to the table. they should concentrate on putting their products feautures into the right light and ban crippled games that can just be upgraded to full features throughout their online service for additional payment. they had months to bomb us away with killer games and even platinum titles from classics they have not even come up with so far. m$ please give us more games like dead rising and gears of war and for petes sakes advertise that more. how about that for a merketing instead?

He should have said a proven online service with over 4 million members. Sony should offer him more pay so he can go work for them. I'm sure they will need all the help they can get in the UK.

well, I HAVE BEEN in our mall, searching for some reason to buy a new console. at this point there are 2 to buy a 360: dead rising and gears or war, that's it. the games you named may be quite ok, but buying a new console for stuff like that? i am not that desperate for a new console, sorry.

and for the subjective part (just opinion): i was into CONSOLE gaming from day 1, so i am too old to be satisfied with

- ghost recon (typical pc game)
- splinter cell (same with that)
- Call of Duty 3 (again)
- Hitman (again)
- Saints Row (gang games? i am not 16 anymore!)

sorry, but it always puts someone into a bad light if he claims to be better, but on the other side has to argue again and again and again against it's opponent. now, that gears of war and dead rising are here it would make a much more impression if they would lean back like they were thinking: we have 2 killer appz, what do YOU have? all that whining from m$ just seems desperate to me. sony was talking bull as well, but it was rarely bull about their opponents it was more about their own failures.

i guess you are right on the G8800, but unfortunately PC-games doesn't interest me, only emulators.

is that a "Violet" dreamcast? did you mod that or did they actually produce that colour? i have modded my dc, now it is silver. maybe i am to exchange the orange led with a blue one.

nice mod with the xbox as well, i have the silver xcm case, the x3 front panel in transparent white, a modded lg drive, an xecuter 3 and soon the x3 IR USB mod. did you upgrade the memory?

But really, did you forget about all the games I quoted and others? You forget, there are over 150 games out for the 360 now, you saying you don't like those games are only your opinion. PCs will always out-power consoles, but that costs around 2-4 times of a console. at least once a year ;)

i can say that MOST pcs out there in the whole world... got even less power then the PS2...

i for myself work 8-12h/day on PC... when i go home i dont even want to turn it on....

I have one xbox with 128megs.but its just for running emu's

sorry dude, i don't like sony either, but as i wrote many times i have been too long into gaming to really spend money for a console with that kind of mediocre games. so far only dead rising, gears of war and that pinata game seem to be out of the ordinary. i am not saying that it would not be fun to play the 100th fifa soccer or nba game, ridge racer 15, tomb raider 11, Splinter cell 5..etc, but as i am having 4 consoles right here right now i don't see the point in that. if it was my first console i would not even think about waiting to get me a 360, but that just doesnt work for me.

another thing are these pc-type games. as i also have stated many times, if you are a pc gamer that doesn't want to buy a new gfx card games like oblivion or call of duty may work for you, but since most console gamers come from mastersystem and famicon times it is hard for microsoft to catch those people (including me).

for gta/saints row, these are games that i am seriously AGAINST. they are lacking the needed irony to make it something even worthy to release. running around, gangbanging is just plain wrong. throw in some black humor for pete's sake.

Have you ever actually played GTA? If you had you would know that its full of said humour.

Its actually one of the most witty games you will ever see.

Although I will grant you this, most of it may go over your head since its mostly British style humour even if the game is set in the USA.

-GR on PC is actually horrible compared to the 360 version, could of been better, but they really f'd it up.

-SC is actually better for the original Xbox, ironically. Just doesn't look as good.

-COD and Hitman, it's up to the person where they like playing it, can work on either system.

-I hate GTA(unless it's GTA 1 or 2), but I honestly love Saint's Row. It actually takes GTA and makes it fun to play for some reason. I can't pinpoint what it is, but it's actually a fun game.

-Tombraider is a game I don't prefer myself so I don't know about it.

-MotoGP is an acquired taste just like any racing game, but it's still a good game.

While I havn't played Gears yet, I can't wait to get my hands on it and from everything I'm hearing, it's damn good. The other games off the top of my head that I want to try when they come out are the mistwalker RPG's.
