Man they were the worst speakers ever. Did anyone notice that they said hi 23 times?(yes I counted) I don't speak japenese, but I'm guessing that hi means gay in japan. They lift up their arms to swing and then blurt out "gaaayyy."

It's "Hai" and it means "Yes".

I never heard a joke wotthless than this one..:( What a shame..
BTW.. Hai also means you agree with the person.. so could mean "No" at the same time depends the context. They are nice speakers.

Agreed. I was going to wait for another fanboy response that was too far over the top before tossing xlink into the bozo bin, but now I won't bother waiting.

That threw me off at first when I started following Japanese. In English if someone asks something like "is it not an inconveniene?", you'd say no, as in "it's not an inconveneince". But in Japan they'd say yes, as in "that's right, it's not an inconvenience". If there were equavilents of terms like "ya know" and "yeah" and "uh-huh" and "I know" and "right" and so forth in common use to pepper the speech with instead, they'd be doing worse, not better.

My bad I didn't mean to offend the great and almighty Nintendo. I figured that hai meant yes in japan, but it was really annoying watching that video and every 10 seconds they yell out "Hai." Is that really the only way you say yes in japan? They couldn't switch it up to a different word every once in a while?

What a poor linguistic knowledge .. is it english the only language do you have? Asian languages works different from western languages.. generally( but not all ) latin based.. You should be amazed how simplistic many langues look up ( specially english ). Just for your information there are 14 ways based on degrees on how to addres/answer someone polite depending on cast and status.. so far there are 3 ways to write on japanese.. so don't go throwing nonsense comments.. go pick a book and confirm before you grant yourself a low BrainAgeCulture mark.

I took other languages before. Just like every other language there is more than 1 way to say yes. So the people in the video should have used a different way every once in a while.
Dam I can't believe that we are arguing about this. It was a JOKE!!!! Maybe not the best one, but still a joke. I'm just trying to make these forums a little bit easier to read by throwing in a comedic response every once in a while. Sorry I guess I'll just keep it serious for all of you guys from now on.

I took Spanish for 3 years. I learned a lot, but forgot a lot now. I realized that I would never really use this language. I don't really want to go to any Spanish countries, so it would be pointless for me to learn Spanish. I actually want to learn Japanese and Korean.
