As many of you already heard, Red Ocatane has blocked the use of 3rd party controllers from being used in Guitar Hero 2. As well, they have blocked original SG controllers that have been modified to be wireless, both via the wireless controller mod (http://forums.makezine.com/comments.php?DiscussionID=33), and the EMS RF Adapter mod (http://www.flickr.com/photos/jeffb/sets/72057594094739914/).

Unfortunately for me, I have performed both mods on two original SG guitars and I was not planning on buying a new guitar to play Guitar Hero 2. Now however, I will be buying the new guitar with the game (and cursing Red Octane while I do it). I will attempt to look for a way to emulate whatever it is the game looking for to distinguish an original SG controller vs. a 3rd party controller.

The other way this can be fixed would be thru modifing the game itself to bypass the check (or validate every controller as a guitar). A PPF patch would be released and we could use our guitars with the patched game.

I have no preference on which fix I use, but I'll have more luck producing a hardware fix rather than a software fix. I will work on the hardware fix, I hope someone else will work on the software fix. I would like to eventually see both fixes available, so everyone can have a way to play the game.

I found this on forum.guitarherogame.com for those of you having problem with the Freedom V guitar with guitar hero II like me they are going to be shipping an adapter out on Monday to fix this problem. I don't know if it will fix modded guitars but it does fix the TAC guitars. Below is the link to preorder your adapter.

I think that paradox fixed release is fake, can't find it anywhere either.

I'm pretty stuck here as the guitar hero adapter from guitar mania doesn't ship to UK.
There is no way i'm buying another guitar controller...

my rock guitar isnt working with GH2 :(

Also, did anyone try a PS1 multitap with GH2, some people think it will work...

I've found a brazilian guy in the Brazilian Guitar Hero's community from Orkut who made a patch to make the MayFlask Rock Guitar (red and white guitar) works with Guitar Hero 2 (maybe, others generic guitars work too). Some other guys from that community confirmed that it works fine (I'll test it today).

Instructions:
1) Make an ISO (game.iso) from the game using something like DVDDecrypter
2) Apply the PPF Patch using something like PPF-O-Matic
3) Burn the modified ISO with DVDDecrypter
4) Test and be happy!!! :D

i tested it and it works, AWESOME.

all buttons, whammy bar, star power... they all work on my modified guitar. the patch didn't affect my official guitar either.

I was wondering if someone who has successfully completed this crack on their version could contact me via email (jimcamel@gmail.com) or MSN (adrian_clark@hotmail.com), I've got the PAL version of this game and I think the crack is only for the NTSC version. Hopefully with someones help we can make a crack for the PAL version as well :D

i tried applying the patch to the iso i made with ppf o matic 3 and the game won't even load when i use swap magic. i have no problems loading the original, just can't play it with my rock guitar. what am i doing wrong? just hate to think that i'd have to buy another guitar and the adapter (which I'm not sure will work with rock guitar) is now $10 plus shipping. if i were to get a second guitar, i'd like to be able to play with my girl instead of buying three guitars all together. buying gh2 and not being able to play it is driving me crazy.

Yes the patch only works on NTSC, stop being idiots and get the NTSC version!

Works like a charm, no need to buy anything extra.

Thanks for the quick response. Here's another question. If I use the Paradox patch, there's NO difference between the 3rdparty guitars and the red-octane one right? Also, can I use the RedOctane 1st-party guitar (white/black) for GH1 with GH2?

both 3rd party guitar and the 1st party guitar works with guitar hero 2. i applied the patch and can play multilayer mode with the 3rd party and 1st party guitar.

I remember starting this thread... wow... Anyway, I thought I'd share how to patch the game yourself. It also works patching all these new hacked versions that are floating around.

First, go get a hex editor (I recommend WinHex).

Open the ISO in your hex editor and search for the HEX STRING (in WinHex press CTRL+ALT+X):

030003241C0102AE

Once you find this string, change the first two digits from 03 to read 02. You should now have:

020003241C0102AE

Save your ISO, burn it, ENJOY.
