I would recommend xenium ice, It was and still is my first chip in my 1.4 box and I love it. I installed my own solderless(so easy) now Im hearing they supprt solderless for all box versions. This xenium has good features too like lock unlock hd all from the menu and now version 2.21 supports menu skins you can check them out on allxboxskins under xenium os.This chip is hot fa sho, go pick one up today playa.........:D Its that damn good mmm huh

If your xbox version is 1.0 - 1.5 maybe consider a bios flash not as many fancy features as a mod but works just as well.

If 1.6 then xenium ice is an excellent mod to use as x2.5 can be a pain to flash without frag on 1.6b versions of the XB. As for X3 will give bit of time b4 the jury makes a decision IMO....

I've used about every chip out there, and I still like the xecuters the best. I just bought a xecuter 2.6ce, and it flashed flawlessly. I've got 3 boxs, all with different chips. Everyone has their favorite chip, and that's cool. It just seems to be the easiest chip to install and it's not too expensive. Just my 2 cents.

Was thinking about a Xenium SPICE but when I saw the control panel I was sold on the Xecuter. Just ordered a Xecuter 3 CE and X3 control panel. This will be my first ever mod, pretty excited :D

this is one upgrade you will not regret i assure you make sure if version 1.6 XBOX that u follow install instructions carefully but more important use the latest x3 bios or latest m8 bios as most older bioses will not work with 1.6 units.... any problems post and will try and help asap...:)

Thanks a lot for offering help TrickyP :)
It's also in part thanks to your post that I even knew about the X3 control panel and got interested in getting one, thanks! I will have to wait until June until I start installing it though as my XBOX is 11000 km away from my current location :p

Oh and I believe I have a v1.1 xbox, can't check it because of the above reason, thanks for the tips though.

NP its a pleasure no point in keeping knowledge to ones self, because your XBOX is version 1.1 the bios world is your oyster as all versions should be compatible and with switch combinations you can have multi bios functionality.

BTW... That must be a world record joypad extension cable hehe :P

if you have an X3, like i do right after i threw away my xenium, it would be pointless to use any other bios then the latest x3 bios..

i would much rather buy an aladdin clone over a xenium..

Hey everyone!

I'm planning on getting an XBox soon, and I was just wondering how I find out the version, so I can get a chip for it that I know will work(I don't care about soldering, I just installed a Qoob Pro in my GC). And is there any problems with one version over the others(should I search for a particular version, or get any available?) Anyway, thanks for the help.

All chips now are compatible with all versions of xbox the only differences are the install and the bios you use. The link below does help you identify version but you still need to open box.

http://www.xbox-scene.com/versions.php

Also xbox mod install is a bit more complex than qoob install so study the diags carefully :D

Thanks, TrickyP

I'll just have to wait till I get it home to crack it open and check, but as long as they all work, I'm not worried. One more question, based on your experience... what's the best chip? Price is a factor, but I know that most of the time, you get what you pay for. So, only the BEST for my box!

Thanks,

I have installed mods in xbox units since generation 1 mods and IMO Xecuter 3 has fantastic features and the replacement front complete with LCD is a work of art. If you are not bothered about the LCD screen and want a good reliable mod then the xecuter 2.6CE is a good choice and does not bruise the wallet.

Sweet, I can practically see my paycheck disappearing before my eyes... I guess 'Santa' is coming a little early this year. Thanks again man.

PS. I'm thinking about adding an additional(or replacement HDD) would the X3 chip recognize this? And the HDD is a Western Digital 80GB IDE so that should work correct?

THX AGAIN.

TrickyP

The recognition of the HDD is via the bios used but that 80gig will plug and play no problem.... 160 gig is biggest I have fitted

Cool...

Just looking over the install diagrams on teamexecuter.com and JEEZ! you were right, nothing like the Cube. But, I think once I start, it's gonna be fun!(And there's nothin' like having a self-modded system for that sense of DIY satisfaction.)

Where are you located? If it's the US, know of the best place to buy(including shipping, etc.)?

Allright, I was checking on modchipman.com and there are a couple of options you can get when you add the X3 to your cart. The Xecuter LCD($45) and the Pro Switch($20). Do I need these? I'm planning on getting the control panel that you pointed out, probably NOT with the chip though, so should I get both of these options? Or will it function fine until I can get the CP?

no get the control panel as to fit the screen into existing case means cutting out and the pro switch can look a bit tacky the control panel is the daddy compared to plus you get usb ports which lets u use usb mem sticks like mem cards

dsltech_dude

So just the chip until I get the CP? Got it(plus it'll save me $65, so THANKS!), I can't wait till I get this bad boy, I was fairly new to modchips before I got my Qoob Pro, and have never had an XBOX, so this will be a new experience and some practice on my soldering skills(who knows what else you might need to solder: cat-dog, stereo-microwave... you get the idea! :) ) Thanks again man, I'm sure I could have searched for all this, but you've given more info than I could have found in a days worth of googling.

dsltech,
if you want a chip with endless capabilities (lcd mod, a whole bunch of stuff most people never use, etc.)go with the x3, if you want a really good chip that will do everything u really need it to do and cheaper go with the x2. good luck!

Okay, first thanks for the help. Now I have a new problem...

I originally got an x2.6 worked great, love'd it. But like most modders, I craved the biggest and the best. So I got an x3 with controlpanel, lcd, and pro switch.

Here's where it all went to hell: I didn't get a pinheader for the x3, so I'm using the xapter for 1.0 - 1.5 boxes. I've got the HDD and LAN wires soldered correctly. But since the xapter has a D0 pin to push in, I didn't solder the D0 point. Now, the first problem is the xapter won't fit firm in the mobo. Even with the screw tightened there is still a LOT of play on the pin side of it. When I plug the chip in, with HDD/LAN and the power/eject adapter connected, and boot it up I get two results. Either the LED is green and the screen goes to M$ 'X' Logo and freezes, or I get on/off, on/off, FRAG. I know the seating of the chip has something to do with it, because the led's on the x3 don't come on until I apply pressure to it, but even then it doesn't boot to flashBIOS.

And... I also tried swapping it with my working x2.6 chip, only I used the solderless adapter that came with it. That does the same thing, either 'X' or FRAG.

I have the wire install thingy, but my soldering's not the best. Should I try that? I don't know why but the solderless adapters aren't working.

Any ideas? I'm open to any suggestions!

Thanks,

DSLTech_Dude

HELP!!

Okay, I'm (still) trying to install the x3 into my 1.5 xbox. The LPC holes have been filled in with solder previously, so I'm using the wire install adapter. I have all those soldered, with the normal way and the LPC fix for 1.5 method(involves soldering two wires to different points on the mobo), and when I install the x3 all I get is one blue LED, and my box boots with a green eject LED and goes to flubber animation then gets service error. I've tried booting w/ start, eject, and both together with same results!

Since I only have one LED on the x3, does that mean my soldering is the problem? I've resoldered all points, but get the same thing.

It's driving me crazy, somebody plz help!

Thanks,

DSLTech_Dude
