Japan's ITmedia seem to have got their hands on a PS3 unit and in doing so took a wealth of pictures including one of PS2 title Fantavision running on the PS3 console. Unfortunately no details are revealed on the mechanism used to utilize backwards compatibility. Be sure to check out all the pictures at itmedia.co.jp

Hey is the PS3 going to upscale the older titles?
Just wondering because I haven't heard.

Who knows. They said the PS2 would make PSX games look better and it didn't do a damn thing. We'll either find out from a review, or when it's released. Out of all the PS2 games to try, WHY Fantavision?!

True enough, my PS2 doesn't improve any of my games...now PS1 emulators do the job great (sheds a tear for Bleem).

Because they still have 2000 unsold copies laying around.

fantavision was a launch title for the PS2 i think, and probably the best game on the machine for the first year.

Ps1 games did look better on the SP2 aswell, u had to enable it in the options tho, i recall playing a square rpg and comparing it directly with the same game on my ps1 and the textures were smoothed out quite well.

The PS3 should upscale PS1/2 stuff, as well as improve FSAA etc, hopefully it will put them into a proper HD resolution rather then just upscaling.

Care to tell me where this "option" is? If there was an option in the PS2 to make PSX games look better (as advertised on the box of the PS2), it would be all over the place in reviews instead of constant rants on how PS2 doesn't do **** for PSX games when it comes to improvement. And fantavision being the best game on the machine for the first year???? That game blew. I had PS2 when it launched.. I sold it 6 months later cause nothing good was coming out (at the time), but there were FAR better games for it than fantavision...

HMMMMM This is going back a long time, but i know in the PS2's main menu (browser ect) there is a feature where you can change for the PSX games.

All it does really is make the image smoother and looks slightly better, isnt anything super.
