The PS3 will come with everything to provide a new entertainment experience except for the cables to make it all viable! The latest issue of Famitsu confirms the PS3 will ship with a standard composite AV cable.

HDMI port, Blu-Ray drive, Cell processor -- the PS3 will ship with everything needed for high definition playback. Everything except for high definition cables, that is.

The latest issue of Famitsu contains a first report on the cables that will be included with the Japanese version of the PS3. Purchasers of either the 60 Gig or 20 Gig models will get a power cord, USB cable, ethernet cable and standard composite AV cable.

That's right! No component, HDMI or D cables are included in the box! While Sony hasn't announced the wiring that will be bundled with the US version of the system, in Japan at least, those who want high definition cables will have to make a separate purchase.

it doesn't need component or HDMI cables... it's not like Sony is pushing it as a true high def console or anything...

furthermore, Nintendo announced that the cables inside it's console are standard AV cables... of course sony announces the same thing hours later...

difference this time is nintendo isn't pushing HD, clearly stating it's console can't do HD... now PS3 is claiming to be the god of HD, but you are gonna be paying extra for an HDMI cable or even component cables so that u can even play the games in HD...

microsoft is pushing its console as HD as well, so it included the proper cables.

If someone buys a PS3 , right out of the box they can't see the system perform at it's best. For xbox360 and wii u can, it has all u need to enjoy it. and wii went 1 step further and even threw in a game... PS3, 1 controller, no game, no HD cables... another speedbump i guess

LMAO, I guess its just another way to gauge customers with pricey accessories. I thought the next gen starts when they say so, and for 600 bucks they can't include a cheap ass component cable? HA!

unless your tv is 1080p you could have gotten away with component cables, you won't see a difference. Hopefully you bought low cost hdmi cables and not the overpriced monster ones

I think sony is trying to do the wrong thing anywhere they can because they think they are so great and mighty they can screw everyone and still come out on top, They might be right.

what ever happened to "True HD right out of the box"

and how will ordering HDMI cables off newegg help....i thought they got rid of the HDMI port and incorporated it into the Multi A/V port...which will more than likely mean a proprietary port size

Hey where are all the Nintendo haters who complained about the Wii coming with Composite cables??
Now composite is good enough?

IMO MS did the right thing including a multi-cable that you can use on either.
Shame on Nintendo and Sony for not following their lead.

The wii does not support hd, therefore there is no reason for them to ship component cables when composite is good enough for sd.

well you can say composite is good enough for the PS3 as well then, even though it doesn't give you HD, its good enough to run the system and play games....IMO they should both have component cables at the least.

ehh, i mean this is a nice feature i guess. But for alot of people, they will understand that its time to move on and get a HDTV if they want real next gen.

To be honest i would rather have the system be 30 dollars cheaper if it didn't come with any, and just component cables.

lmao.

Im glad my 360 didn't come with HDMI. Dude, I like choices, even if I have to pay a buttload for those choices anyway when things become standard. But I'm an xboxtard, what do i know. lolz.

But component cables will be custom for the PS3 and pricey, any cheap HDMI cable will work.

Sony is trying to just tack on another thing that they can sell. Watch now you get the gold premium package which includes hdmi cables for the low price of 700 dollars, lol.

I'm just joking, actually I dont have a hd-tv and dont plan on getting one untill the price drops greatly. Then again I dont plan on getting a PS3 untill the price drops greatly.

But I will definitely get a PS3 before I get a hd-tv. My tv doesn't even have a hdmi slot so I would have to buy a av cable if i wanted to play my PS3. I think that sony is just trying to anticipate what the mass market has. If only 15% of people have an hd-tv then there is no point in causing 85% of people to have to buy a new cable. But the hd-tv owners can still use the av cables so it is not that big of a deal to go this way.

You have to try to think the way that sony thinks, otherwise you will surely think that they are mentally retarded.

I find it very interesting, that Sony really tries so hard to sell their next-gen console on HD this and HD that... even TRUE HD this and that... but their console comes with a Composite cable? LOL! People worshipping Sony must be blinded by their love for the company!

HDMI Cables are a cost...not matter how you look at it, I'm pretty sure that HDMI cables cost $5-6 to manufacturer. Multiply that by 400,000 units. That means Sony will lose $2,000,000. I don't think Sony wants to do that....

If the current crop of pics are anything to go by, the PS3 will have the same set of connectors, aside from the HDMI port, as the PS2 and original PS.

In short. If you have a PS2, or a PS, with SVideo, component or SCART/RGB, why bother giving you even more?

Most TVs aren't component ready anyway, and most people really don't care about the graphical difference between SVideo and Component(if they did, there would've been hell to pay for not including svideo on the original models of PS).

Of course, I did think MS's solution to the included cable craziness was clever. Just stick a composite out on the high end's component cable and made everyone happy. But oh well.
