I needed to do this to get my backups to boot (they all gave me open tray before). It's pretty easy to do and the video is a bit blurry but gives you the general idea.

When you have your 360 opened you need to take out your dvd drive completely (remove the power and sata from the motherboard to do so). Flip the drive over and there will be 4 screws - remove them and then you can remove the top of the case (it may but a little difficult to get off so have patience but there are ONLY 4 screws holding it in).

Once you have the case apart, looking at the drive from the front (i.e. tray end) you will see the laser/head in the middle which moves along the rails. What you want to do is cut a piece of rubberband and tie, wedge, whatever works for you, between the right rail and the plastic siding it runs along.

What you are doing is creating a bumper so to speak to keep the head from moving too far forward (that is why you get the open tray). I used a small rubber band for this.

Obviously you have to have the tray ejected to do this, so you might need to connect it back to eject the tray to get to the rails (they are under the tray when the tray is closed). Put the cover back on (don't screw it back yet) and connect it back to the 360 and power on and test with an original. If you still get the open tray then you need a larger buffer. If the disc spins real loud (almost to a grinding point) you used too much buffer.

Also test on originals. If originals still boot then it would fix the open tray issue. However you can get the open tray message with a bad backup / burn. As long as originals still boot when doing this then you know you did it right.

i actualy stumbled on the trick, cos i was getting the open tray error.the video wasnt showing good on my pc.also i havnt installed the drivers for my audigy.so i grabbed a photo and got the jist as well as your posts.

i only had i biggish rubber band so i cut it with scissors down middle and then tied it to the rail.like this:

works like a gem and so easy.

who would have thought a rubberband:eek:

now i got a sammy in my console and have removed an hitachi even though it worked.

IF YOU GOT OPEN TRAY AND NO OTHER ERRORS USE THIS TRICK!

Glad you got it working! The video was real blurry but I was able to figure out what he had done when he removed it (it was real hard to see before he removed it).

In hindsight, I probably should have tied it like you did, instead I cut a small piece, folded it up and wedged it in the side between the rail and the plastic edge.

But as soon as I did that it fixed the open tray error and started booting backups.

Just out of curiosity, if you had a working Hitachi drive, why did you swap it out for a TS?

cos i fried the hitachi drive, trying to rip xbox games.i used the kit,it fried and took the drive.so i had to have it repaired.it came back cost me like £70 with the postage there.i had to send the whole console.

when it came back it booted games first time like it did when i had it before working, but,it has gradualy got to the point where it takes quite a few gos to get a game to boot.

i flashed a sammy for someone, they got a dead mobo,i offered them £40 and i bought the drive,so i finaly got it married to the board(thanks to ash2006)and this rubberband trick got the games to boot.

also with the new hitachi thats out,it'll probably take them time to hack it,if they manage to.so its always wise to grab bargain drives.one day the hitachi and sammy spare drives will become a rarity to get an hold of.

hi

just put the rubber band on my ms25 sammy, and my games still say open traqy error?

any ideas?

i think it may be the ss / game?

i used schtrom v3 (whole disc stealth) on a pc DVD samsung kreon .81 to make image.

then i burnt with clone cd 5.9.1 to complete the 7.5gb burn? did i have to manually extract the ss and merge it in the whole disc image from schtrom?

i put it under the black circle in the middle,

right metal slider, right near the end

the picture has one band on the long rod, right hand side when you look from front

but it didnt work for me?

i may be backing up originals incorectly? please help?

use backup creator to read and write is that all or do you have to mess with ss files?

if you got an iso then you got to use ssmerger to merge the ss.bin to the iso, same gos for if you got a .360 you still neeed to merge the ss.bin to the .360 and you end up with a .000 and an image.dvd.

you need to know which method was used to get the image.wxripper style or xtreme.you need to check the box thats relates to the image type.

you need the latest clonecd 5.2.9.1 and select the resulting .dvd to burn the game.

thing is if you burned it incorrectly or if the ss.bin wasnt merged correctly i would have said you would have got some type of error, not just open tray.

when you do the rubberband trick you need to use a thin piece of rubberband and trim the loose edges of.make sure it is pushed up as far as it will go.

Hi guyz

Finally got it working

Used xbox backup creator v2.2 by redline to read original disc image, then used burn option with the same program. Works like a treat.

Forget Imgburn, forget clone cd.

Just use Xbox backup creator v2.2 by Redline

Disk that work for me are Verbatim DVD+R DL

Have fun guys, And thanks to all of you including ASH (You rock man!!)
