View Full Version : PS3 Virtua Tennis 3 goes Full HD
During their Tokyo event, Sega revealed that Virtua Tennis 3 will run at 1080p. This makes VT3 the second confirmed HD title for the PS3 alongside Gran Turismo HD. 1UP says the game looked 'absolutely glorious' in the resolution and remind us all that the 360 is incapable of such resolutions.

At its press event in Tokyo yesterday, Sega revealed, or rather boasted, that Virtua Tennis 3 runs in 1080p on the PS3. Displaying the game on slick HD sets with 1080p placards next to them, it looked absolutely glorious in high-res.
This makes Virtua Tennis 3 the second PS3 title confirmed to run in 1080p, next to Gran Turismo HD, and demonstrates that third party publishers are able to achieve what's been dubbed the holy grail of full HD on PS3. Sony has touted the PS3's ability to render 1080p images as a large benefit over the Xbox 360, which is incapable of generating them at such a resolution.

Too bad you can't really tell the difference between 1080i and 1080p and don't give me the bullshit. You talk to any professional that doesn't work for Sony and they all say the same thing. HD has been here already Sony, 360 beat you to it. Too bad.....

So now the 1% of people with 1080p TV's can play it at full res...oh wait, no they can't. Since almost all the 1080p TV's out are DLP and everyone knows that DLP has horrible gaming lag in almost ever set made except a few models.

yep, that is the post i was looking for when i looked into this topic: some jealous weak minded dude that cant deal with the fact that he has spend all his money for a next-gen console far too early. :D
well, i am sure that you can not tell the difference on you 13 inch tv in your college dormroom.
ah, just to let you know: i dont contradict your message i just contradict your personality. why? because you posting to this topic just has one reason. to say the following thing: i got a 360 and it is the onliest (!) and bestest (!) console in the whole wide world i bought me (!) and every other console is weak and bad and is gonna fail. sniff.
and that's sad.
they will all 3 be succesfull. deal with it.

ah, just waited for you. yep, you are right and as consoles have a regular lifespan of around 3 month so the technical status of hi def tv sets at the moment really makes a difference. yep, just manufacture for lower resolutions and kick out a new revision of the console or simply a new console when 1080p tvs, that are ready for gaming, are affordable. yep, do it like sega with the dreamcast: DVD playback will not be relevant in the future, dont implement it.
as we all know the tv market doesnt change quickly. ;)

This is ridiculous. Of course you can. That's why the standard has it. But this is easier to setup - move around in any game that runs at 60 fps currently in non progressive mode and the Y axis resolution halves plus you get more flicker. With 1080p you get less flicker and the full Y resolution at all times per frame.
This is not an if- this is real. There's IS a reason why 1080p exists. You could say the same BS about 720i or 480i, but you can and will see a difference.
Games that run at 30fps, the difference won't be as big as the resolution doesn't half assuming they are perfectly synced to the vblank, but you will get more flicker anyway.

as someone who will own all three nex gens and has an HD set that rocks... who cares! Give me a game worth playing that's not tennis and maybe i'll care what it looks like.
Gameplay is where it is at... it can be as pretty as can be, but if it's still a one dimensional single gimmick game that is easily boresome... i forgot where i was going with this.
Tennis? COOL!

Just ignore him. I find it funny how someone called Dreary or someone a Counter-Striker, but the only time I ever heard anyone act so immature or use retarded internet slang like Pwn so much, were the 12 year olds on the crappiest pub you could find. Just let him think he's cool and ignore him.

ive psted a little piece of a review from here:
http://reviews.cnet.com/4520-6449_7-6361600-1.html
seems this 1080P fiasco aint worth all the trouble :D
' even if the display has a native resolution of 1080p on paper, it can't necessarily display all 2 million-plus pixels in the real world. For example, the Sharp LC-45GX6U, a 1080p 45-inch flat-panel LCD, actually wasn't as sharp as it claimed to be; it couldn't resolve every line of a 1080i-resolution test pattern.
Finally--and this may sound weird--but many 1080p televisions don't accept 1080p sources at all. In our experience, only the aforementioned HP MD6580N can handle 1080p via its HDMI inputs--all other current 1080p HDTVs cannot. Instead, they upconvert 720p and 1080i sources to 1080p.
Oh, and I would be remiss not to mention computer connectivity. Those of you thinking of running your PC through a 1080p set should be aware that you may not necessarily get to use all that extra resolution--even if you have the right high-end graphics card. For instance, the Sharp set we tested allows you to max out at only 1,280x1,024 resolution while the less-expensive Westinghouse LVM-37W1, along with Samsung's 1080p RPTVs and one series of high-end sets from Mitsubishi, accept true 1,920x1,080 resolution from a PC. We expect most 1080p HDTVs announced in 2006 to handle 1080p sources, but for now, that capability is rare.'

Tennis probably needs less hardware resources than anything else only 2-4 players and the whole field fits on 1 screen. I would like to see killzone as they showed it at E3 2005 in full 1080p but that quality we will probably see only on a 4x4 PC sometime next year.

me neither,no problem in the living room...and i dont get lag on my good ol bedroom toshiba 51" CRT RPTV.
in fact id have to say that people with LCD,and without DLP are missing out on something..
DLP and CRT still are far better than shitty ol' lcd.
plasmas seen its day,and the sooner lcd does the better.

in which town do they let 12 year olds into a pub? here in essex it is not allowed.
well, isnt it mature first raging against internet slang and then using a term like -tool-?
ah, yes i really find madonna tasteful and deserving respect while looking like 60 years old and pressing her crutch into every camera she can find, behaving like she is a sexy lolita. anyway what does that have to do with anything? let me try it: hall and oates finally get their greatest hits remixed and some stubborn microsoft fanboy annoys the hell out of others. not bad, eh?
i can really understand that you find it annoying when someone got better arguments and articulation skills and maybe irony on its side when you should be the one is always right and deserves to rule the forum. i really do. honestly.

Ok, I'm sorry. I looked up a list of laggy TV's and it seems like many LCD's have taken over the role of laggy TV's. The problem with DLP tv's being laggy was with the first gen that came out about 6 months to a year ago. Looks like the newer ones are using a better chip.

problem is, lcd's are ok, but not ideal for gaming, with lcds you need a constant image change, if you leave it still for a prolonged period you get a burn in the tube.
DLPs maybe back then lagged, but like all technology it gets improved, this is the second time youve said that DLPs lag, and this is the second time ive explained that they dont now (unless you buy a mega cheap one).
My DLP is ace, crisp picture no lagg/blurryness.
Radiozo

Incorrect. You cannot burn images on a LCD. You're probably thinking of plasma displays.
